[Bug 881247] [NEW] Screen freezes ever so often.

I added the ppa and have been using it for a few days. I have observed that there is no performance boost from my desktop effects. Actual gaming, I don't know. I have also tried all vsync fiddling, triple buffering settings, etc. etc. Long story short: Performance is awesome after boot. Just dandy. [Bug 881254] [NEW] DocBook Package: Tools are broken and no longer supported
Public bug reported: O'Reilly has a sample DocBook at https://prod.oreilly.com/external/tools/docbook/docs/authoring/docbook_source/. After installing Ubuntu's DocBook, `docbook2pdf` was not able to compile O'Reilly's sample book and produce a PDF. It seems the DocBook package uses a dated version of OpenJade. Not only is it out-dated, it is no longer supported. To get the tool to work, it was necessary to run `xmllint --xinclude` first. The preprocessing fixed the compile errors, but the resulting PDF does not include images. Images are included with mediaobjects tag. It appears mediaobjects was a fix for an earlier graphic tag (which lacked an alternate text). OpenJade does not support mediaobjects, and there is no fix since its so old and no longer supported. If you find performance gets worse over time, try noting how much memory compiz is using when you first log in and compare it to when performance has degraded. In case there are others that had the same misunderstanding I had...I thought this bug affects me but it turns out it doesn't. First after reboot I can see that my brightness settings are not lost on reboot (the 2nd part of this bug). However I still believed the first part of the bug affected me since I couldn't see how to distinguish the brightness setting when I was on AC vs when I was on battery. However, after some testing I found that different brightness settings for AC and batter do work (at least for me) ...it is just extremely unintuitive. Try this to see if, like me, this bug doesn't affect you. Go into brightness setting on AC. set it all the way up to the top. Close the brightness settings window. Now unplug your laptop. Now go back into the brightness setting and set it to be medium brightness. Close the brightness window. Now plug your laptop in and then unplug it. Public bug reported: I cannot open files on the network from within LibreOffice: 1. Open LibreOffice Writer 2. Navigate to somewhere on the network (as connected using Connect to server...) 3. Click on any LibreOffice file. 4. Nothing. However, when I make a symbolic link ~$ ln -s .gvfs/foo on bar/some_dir test I am able to open files using the LibreOffice Open File dialog. [Bug 881264] [NEW] libreoffice-kde causes libreoffice to crash and bibus to freeze during bibliography finalization
Public bug reported: I am using Kubuntu Oneiric, up to date. This is a bug, it is perfectly reproducible. Libreoffice crashes and leaves a java crash trace (attached), bibus freezes... It happens both with bibus from Natty (since Oneiric version has a dependency issue, this is the first I tried), bibus from oneiric (installed using dpkg -i --force-depends), and the debian package from the bibus website. When I removed libreoffice-kde, finalization started to work. I would gladly report this upstream, just I do not know which upstream? libreoffice? Java? Bibus? Python? [Bug 881263] [NEW] Nautilus and desktop icons change theme to gray after closing Opera browser
Public bug reported: This bug is tested with clean installation of Ubuntu 11.10 x86 and also 64bit. Without any additional software, no additional GFX drivers, clean install with added Opera browser. After using of Opera browser for 10-30 minutes, and after closing Opera, Nautilus icons, desktop icons and desktop font colors are changed. Nautilus get gray theme, it seems like all icons are gray and all icons looks the same. As empty paper gray icon. Also toolbar of Nautilus get changed to gray. This happens unexpectedly and unpredictably. One thing is certain that after using Opera for some time and turning off the Opera this will definitely happen. I also try to not use Opera software for whole day and then this problem never occur. Adter that I also install PCManFM. This app stay unchanged, only Nautilus change theme. This bug was also confirmed in one forum by other user, also in combination with latest Ubuntu 11.10 and latest Opera browser. Thank you. Public bug reported: I'm working on an odt file in LibreOffice and, after suspending my computer last night and resuming this morning, every time I tried to save it I would get a message from LibreOffice saying The file has been changed since it was opened for editing in LibreOffice etc. I closed the file and tried to reopen and discovered the file no longer existed. I looked in Thunar (using XFCE now) and found that indeed the file didn't exist, but there was a series of files named filename.odt.u1conflict and then the same name with .1, .2, up to .5 appended. If I remove this extension, it immediately reverts back, so it's impossible to have a file just called filename.odt. I just killed ubuntuone-syncdaemon and restarted with ubuntuone-launch, and filename.odt reappeared, with a modified time of the moment I restarted ubuntuone. [Bug 881264] Re: libreoffice-kde causes libreoffice to crash and bibus to freeze during bibliography finalization
I did another test that might be relevant: I ran Libreoffice with gnome environment: OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome oowriter So I did not see the kde integration. However, when selecting OpenOffice.org Finalize in Bibus it starts finalization, proceeds a little further than before and then freezes. Libreoffice does not crash, but the finalized document is not produced... Not sure what to make of this. [Bug 881270] [NEW] Atheros AR8152 v1.1 (rev c1) ethernet freezes connection
Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu 11.10, a fresh install, on a Acer Aspire One D255. Dual core Intel Atom N550, 1GB DDR3, Intel Centrino Wireless-N (works quite well) and an Atheros Ethernet that works fine for 30 minutes, top. After a random while it freezes the connection. Neither side of the transference notices, even the lights on my router are still on (just stop blinking). Network manager reports the connection status as it was previous to the freeze. Any attempt to restore the functionality does not work, only rebooting. @omer yes, quite similar but this bug happens when dragging a hyperlink.
