For bugfix, I think at best Ubuntu can do is handle this crash
gracefully. perhaps a simple message should to be known to all teamview
users that there are compability issues with TeamView 8 beta. Don't
proceed, unless you know what you are doing

[Bug 989473] [NEW] Ralink RT2860[1814:0781] Wireless card worked in 10.10, stopped working in 12.04

2012-04-27 Thread Gaurish Sharma
Public bug reported:

Till Now,
I was running Ubuntu 10.10 Today, I have installed 12.04 my wifi stopped
working. It was a fresh install(not a upgrade). Wireless gets detected as
RT2790 show available network but doesn't not connect to any wireless
network(tried secured unsecured) for some strange reason.

here is the lspci outout from Ubuntu 10.10 where my wireless card was
working:

01:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2860
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 130f
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr-
Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort- TAbort-
MAbort- SERR- PERR- INTx-
Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 4 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16
Region 0: Memory at fd9f (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel driver in use: rt2800pci
Kernel modules: rt2860sta, rt2800pci

you can find the lspci output of 12.04 where the same card doesn't work
as attachment. Interesting thing to notice here is: the same card gets
detected as two different chipsets(RT2790 vs RT2860)

the Wireless card in question here is: Asus PCE-N10 Wireless PCI Express
Adapter(http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Adapters/PCEN10/) with
device id: [1814:0781]. I think chipset in this card is RT2860(not
RT2790). I further suspect this wrong detection in Ubuntu 12.04 is the
reason that it doesn't connect/work.

So, Please let me know if my suspicion is correct? If yes, then what I
need to do to fix this mess get my wireless card working in Ubuntu
12.04?

After you plug Pen drive and wait for 2minutes and then post the

Also, use fdisk -l to know device location and then try to mount it manually

 Its working on Vista though.

Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix this problem.

 Hi all

I was recently in Delhi and Gurgaon for work and one of my colleagues
brought me to Nehru Place :)

I was happy to find a nice, cheap webcam to use with Ubuntu. If anyone
goes there, ask for Night Vision Camera IT-305WC (5 megapixel). Night
vision refers to 6 annoying leds in front of it :) I got decent 640x480
output from it and for Rs. 600 I think it was a good deal.

 Cheers,

No, the issue it not fixed.
Its not a Ubuntu problem, rather a upstream bug which is not likely to
get fixed soom. it occurs in all linux distros.

But this doesn't mean that we can't do it. Doing this on personal
basis will be a good start. For example those of us who are working in
industry already can design courses about various tools and conduct
them in their colleges ans and when possible.

'sudo smartctl -l error /dev/sda' gave a list of errors. Latest error

My other hard disk on /dev/sdb has ZERO errors. One pass in memtest gave
 ZERO errors in RAM.

Ubuntu forums is having a down time right now(!?), but a gist of google
 results imply impending disk failure...

Surprising thing is my machine works just fabulous when it is not acting up.

On going through /var/log/messages, I found the following log before the

the instability occurred, there was a bunch of these unstable messages.

2008-07-29 Thread Gaurish Sharma
Sorry for Trouble, i Understand your trouble.
Your system maybe locked up due to IRQ conflicts. but i am not sure.
Please have a look https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingIRQProblems
and see if any one these listed workarounds solve your problem.
To use this you, you need to edit grub to pass on the arguments at boot time.in
choices menu, press e and then add the option like noapic at end of line.

Then press b to boot the system.

Secondly i wanted to ask, Do you have made a Proper SWAP space on a separate
partition which should be appox 1.5times your ram?

Thanks

2008-07-15 Thread Gaurish Sharma
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
does not yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

Update Notifier does the update checking and displays a neat little icon in the
systray. when its checking for updates, it downloads latest package
information from Ubuntu's servers, so thats why you get grey icon on the top
right of the Gnome window.

By default Update Notifier checks for new updates once in a day checking
updates takes about 2minutes on a internet connection with decent speed and
does not consume much resources.
as you have claimed it takes lots of resources, whats your system config? ,
make sure you have atleast 256mb ram which is required to run Ubuntu.
if you meet minimum hardware requirements, try running update-manager by typing
update-manager in Terminal (ApplicationAccessoriesTerminal).
and when it runs Please monitor Memory usage CPU
usage(SystemAdministrationSystem MonitorProcesses tab).

And post the result here. as a temporary workaround, please disable
automatic updates. here is procedure:-

1) SystemAdministrationSoftware sources
2) Navigate to Updates Tab and Uncheck check for updates.
3) click close to exit.

Please remember by this your system may be left vulnerable, as latest
security updates would not be installed. to install updates you manually
have to check for new update install them regularly. use update
manager to check for new updates install them.

alternatively you can use, which should be low on resource if you have a low
end system.
:~$ sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade

Marking it as Incomplete as it needs more information, which i have
requested above.

Please get back with required information and we would be happy to Help!

Re: [ubuntu-in] Help to reduce the resolution of jpg file

2008-04-13 Thread gaurish sharma
Hi,
There also a Easy to use Gui implementation which i would like to point out.
There is a Package named nautilus-image-converter which is Available
in Ubuntu repository. It fully integrates into nautilus fire manger.
with help of nautilus-image-converter images can be right-sized with a
click of a button.

Step to Use The above package

1) Open terminal type:
sudo apt-get install nautilus-image-converter
and Restart X, by CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE
2) Navigate to the folder in which images are present. Right-Click on
it. Now click on Resize Images.
and rest part are easy to figure out, so i would leave it up to you.

Remember: Multiple files could be supported at the same time

For more information:
http://www.bitron.ch/software/nautilus-image-converter.php

PS: Things can be done in both CLI GUI way, choose which one suits you ;)

Re: [ubuntu-in] College tech-fest help..

2008-01-29 Thread Gaurish Sharma
List,
I am against FREE cd sent by shipit service as most of them are going
waste. instead, the whole process should be made manual respective
LoCo teams should approve requests. this step would minimize waste of
resources. i myself tried distributing around 10 disc twice or thrice
first among my school mates then in my college. the response is
disappointing. most people returned the DISC to me the second day,
while others had put it to innovative uses.

1) using it as a reflectors in cycles
2) keeping in their school bag using it as mirror(as mirrors were
not allowed our school)
3) in college people were more sane, so they just returned me the DISC
saying, yaar isme toh kuch samajth nahi aaya, apni to toh windows hi
theek hai, For non hindi speakers it means. I Didn't understand how
to use it, windows is best for me as it is easy to use

Now, i suggest first to create a Hype like not giving the cd's, and
showing off the Desktop effects other features of Ubuntu which are
far more ahead from windows platform.the most usefull features that
even a hardcore windows fan virus free working environment. its just a
clue you and let or imagination fly compile some other features
offered Ubuntu which are suitable in our context then start a
advertisement campaign around your campus.

so by this people would be curious about Ubuntu, and whenever they get
a chance they would love to try it out.

So to sum up, instead of forceing more people to install Ubuntu on
their machine. Create a General awareness about Ubuntu.
Like make a target that everyone should know what Ubuntu is in
around your campus. it doesn't matter whether they actully use it or
not but they should know what is Ubuntu or Linux in general.

And if someone is Deeply interested in Ubuntu offer a Ubuntu Disc.
but first create a General awareness Level.

Re: [ubuntu-in] What happened to ubuntu-in development ?

2008-01-22 Thread Gaurish Sharma
I think instead of making another Distro or flock based upon Ubuntu, i
suggest to make a addon pack with all customizations required for Indian
context like codecs( as bundling codecs is legal in india) and other
such which may be later decided upon. for example we can look at Ubuntu
studio.
By this we would have the following advantages:-

1) Don't have to care about maintaining packages, fixing bugs most
important providing security updates

2) what all customization you would require can be done with the
resources we currently have

I would suggest, a add on cd upon existing Ubuntu install ion but
remaining compatible with Ubuntu will be a challenge.

maybe i am wrong somewhere( please correct me), but i am not so
experience as you guys are, so i can't code :(

However, now after installing Ubuntu 7.04, he tried

Maybe you need to
sudo route add default ppp0
also post the output of ifconfig,pppoe-discovery if the above command does

On ubuntu forums, one killed dhclient service which

What are the files (config files) created / edited by

It is easier to install using the GUI that comes with
 the default Live-cum-installable CD.

 Therefore, you have few options.
If have unlimited downloads at a reasonably good speed
(say 128 Kbps), you could download 7.04, perform the
necessary checks (Md5 etc.) and burn it to a CD-RW.

Alternatively, if you have ubuntu 6.06 it should
install without problems. Then, later you can do a dist-upgrade.

May be you should try the Alternate install(standalone cd) for
installation

From ubuntu.com

The alternate install CD allows you to perform certain specialist
installations of Ubuntu. It provides for the following situations:

   - creating pre-configured OEM systems;
   - setting up automated deployments;
   - upgrading from older installations without network access;
   - LVM and/or RAID partitioning;
   - installs on systems with less than about 256MB of RAM (although note
that low-memory systems may not be able to run a full desktop environment
   reasonably).

may be you can download it or request it

Simple, why don't you try building Zope2.9 from source ? When it comes
to web frameworks I feel more comfortable to build it from source and
use it. I too tried the same, but buddies at #zope @ freenode asked me
to try it from source and it worked like a charm.

There are two alternate ways of running Zope. The zope book instructs
one method, but there is an alternate method with easy-install. Check
the latter method out here -
http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/zopeproject . If you have any
problems, join us at #zope (if you have the luxury of internet
 connection and IRC).

I always suggest people to build from source, there is nothing hard or
tough in it. Once you do it the first time, from next time yourselves
would be preferring it. Try it once :)

Welcome parag!

Hello,

I just joined The Ubuntu India mailing list, and thought I'd introduce
myself.

A bit about myself. I am an independent consultant and trainer based in
Pune, and specializing in Java/J2EE technologies.

I have Ubuntu installed on an old Samsung V25 laptop (I'd love to get it
on my primary working machine as well, but a client I am coding for has some
DLL's that need to be linked to...). It's pretty neat, and I like the fact
that I could get it up and running quickly (well almost quickly... needed to
tweak the resolution).

Next on my agenda is getting Internet to work.

That's a bit about myself and my Ubuntu story. Glad to be part of the
community. The Ubuntu team is doing some really awesome work.

Re: [ubuntu-in] ADSL without ethernet

2007-06-17 Thread Gaurish Sharma

i think you should better buy a Lan card it just costs 180 bucks no there
is no hassle disconnections as in case in USB.
As Usb( networking devices ) support in linux is still under development
stage so if by any means its possible then you will need lot of effort to
configure device which your parents might feel uneasy with.
Also i strongly feel they should upgrade the ubuntu version to at least
Drapper(6.06) which offers long term support. i didn't get what u meant by
My parents old comp only supports and runs 5.10..
linux is a versitile os then can run on very computer configration and on
every platform, if it has less RAM(most likely case with old PC) then You
can use Xfce which is lighter than Gnome, also Gnone can also be configured
to run on low resources.

hi,
My parents old comp has no ethernet card, and with windows used a special
driver for the broadband connection that
made use of usb as a networking device. The adsl router was provided by
bsnl, quidway WA1003A,..
Ubuntu does detect the adsl modem, partially, ie loads the eagle-usb
drivers automatically..
Has anyone successfully made use of the modem in such a case?, please do
help me if so.

My parents old comp only supports and runs 5.10..
I can also provide the detailed lsusb details if needed.

I don't why are keen in getting a dial up connection, its better tell
them get broadband. by this they will not have any problem in
configuring the modem( given the condition it should be connected to
laptop via ethernet) and also u can have a face to face vedio
conversation with them.

the tariff of the lowest paln from mtnl starts from 200/- pm for speed
upto 2mbps

USB to serial adapters are available. One can be purchased in Nehru Place,
Delhi for sure. With one of those, you can connect the serial modem to the
 laptop via the USB port.
