[Bug 989473] [NEW] Ralink RT2860[1814:0781] Wireless card worked in 10.10, stopped working in 12.04
Public bug reported: Till Now, I was running Ubuntu 10.10 Today, I have installed 12.04 my wifi stopped working. It was a fresh install(not a upgrade). Wireless gets detected as RT2790 show available network but doesn't not connect to any wireless network(tried secured unsecured) for some strange reason. here is the lspci outout from Ubuntu 10.10 where my wireless card was working: 01:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2860 Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. I think chipset in this card is RT2860(not RT2790). I further suspect this wrong detection in Ubuntu 12.04 is the reason that it doesn't connect/work. Sorry for Trouble, i Understand your trouble. Your system maybe locked up due to IRQ conflicts. but i am not sure. Please have a look https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingIRQProblems and see if any one these listed workarounds solve your problem. To use this you, you need to edit grub to pass on the arguments at boot time.in choices menu, press e and then add the option like noapic at end of line. Then press b to boot the system. Secondly i wanted to ask, Do you have made a Proper SWAP space on a separate partition which should be appox 1.5times your ram? Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description does not yet have enough information. Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team: 1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture. 2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report. 3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report. By default Update Notifier checks for new updates once in a day checking updates takes about 2minutes on a internet connection with decent speed and does not consume much resources. as you have claimed it takes lots of resources, whats your system config? , make sure you have atleast 256mb ram which is required to run Ubuntu. if you meet minimum hardware requirements, try running update-manager by typing update-manager in Terminal (ApplicationAccessoriesTerminal). and when it runs Please monitor Memory usage CPU usage(SystemAdministrationSystem MonitorProcesses tab). Right-Click on it. Now click on Resize Images. and rest part are easy to figure out, so i would leave it up to you. Re: [ubuntu-in] College tech-fest help..
List, I am against FREE cd sent by shipit service as most of them are going waste. instead, the whole process should be made manual respective LoCo teams should approve requests. this step would minimize waste of resources. i myself tried distributing around 10 disc twice or thrice first among my school mates then in my college. the response is disappointing. most people returned the DISC to me the second day, while others had put it to innovative uses. 1) using it as a reflectors in cycles 2) keeping in their school bag using it as mirror(as mirrors were not allowed our school) 3) in college people were more sane, so they just returned me the DISC saying, yaar isme toh kuch samajth nahi aaya, apni to toh windows hi theek hai, For non hindi speakers it means. I Didn't understand how to use it, windows is best for me as it is easy to use Now, i suggest first to create a Hype like not giving the cd's, and showing off the Desktop effects other features of Ubuntu which are far more ahead from windows platform.the most usefull features that even a hardcore windows fan virus free working environment. its just a clue you and let or imagination fly compile some other features offered Ubuntu which are suitable in our context then start a advertisement campaign around your campus. so by this people would be curious about Ubuntu, and whenever they get a chance they would love to try it out. So to sum up, instead of forceing more people to install Ubuntu on their machine. Create a General awareness about Ubuntu. Like make a target that everyone should know what Ubuntu is in around your campus. it doesn't matter whether they actully use it or not but they should know what is Ubuntu or Linux in general. And if someone is Deeply interested in Ubuntu offer a Ubuntu Disc. but first create a General awareness Level. Re: [ubuntu-in] What happened to ubuntu-in development ?
I think instead of making another Distro or flock based upon Ubuntu, i suggest to make a addon pack with all customizations required for Indian context like codecs( as bundling codecs is legal in india) and other such which may be later decided upon. for example we can look at Ubuntu studio. By this we would have the following advantages:- 1) Don't have to care about maintaining packages, fixing bugs most important providing security updates 2) what all customization you would require can be done with the resources we currently have I would suggest, a add on cd upon existing Ubuntu install ion but remaining compatible with Ubuntu will be a challenge. maybe i am wrong somewhere( please correct me), but i am not so experience as you guys are, so i can't code :( Regards, Gaurish Sharma -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

If have unlimited downloads at a reasonably good speed (say 128 Kbps), you could download 7.04, perform the necessary checks (Md5 etc.) and burn it to a CD-RW. Alternatively, if you have ubuntu 6.06 it should install without problems. Then, later you can do a dist-upgrade. -- http://www.gnu.org.in ubunturos @ freenode Travelling to a new city? *Please let me know if there is any other way by which i can install ubuntu (With out actually doubleclicking that icon).* ** *Iam very much interested to install ubuntu ,,,... Please help me in this regard.* Thanks and Regards, Pramod May be you should try the Alternate install(standalone cd) for installation From ubuntu.com The alternate install CD allows you to perform certain specialist installations of Ubuntu. It provides for the following situations: - creating pre-configured OEM systems; - setting up automated deployments; - upgrading from older installations without network access; - LVM and/or RAID partitioning; - installs on systems with less than about 256MB of RAM (although note that low-memory systems may not be able to run a full desktop environment reasonably). may be you can download it or request it -- Regards, Gaurish Sharma This email is licensed under http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

Can you guide me further please? thanks in advance regards nanbudh Simple, why don't you try building Zope2.9 from source ? When it comes to web frameworks I feel more comfortable to build it from source and use it. I too tried the same, but buddies at #zope @ freenode asked me to try it from source and it worked like a charm. There are two alternate ways of running Zope. The zope book instructs one method, but there is an alternate method with easy-install. Check the latter method out here - http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/zopeproject . If you have any problems, join us at #zope (if you have the luxury of internet connection and IRC). I always suggest people to build from source, there is nothing hard or tough in it. Once you do it the first time, from next time yourselves would be preferring it. Re: [ubuntu-in] ADSL without ethernet
i think you should better buy a Lan card it just costs 180 bucks no there is no hassle disconnections as in case in USB. As Usb( networking devices ) support in linux is still under development stage so if by any means its possible then you will need lot of effort to configure device which your parents might feel uneasy with. Also i strongly feel they should upgrade the ubuntu version to at least Drapper(6.06) which offers long term support. i didn't get what u meant by My parents old comp only supports and runs 5.10.. linux is a versitile os then can run on very computer configration and on every platform, if it has less RAM(most likely case with old PC) then You can use Xfce which is lighter than Gnome, also Gnone can also be configured to run on low resources. -- Regards, Gaurish Sharma On 6/17/07, Venkatesh.N Nandakumar [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: hi, My parents old comp has no ethernet card, and with windows used a special driver for the broadband connection that made use of usb as a networking device.
