[Bug 508777] Re: virtualbox: Lucid alpha2 does not boot
Confirmed. Installation of Lucid works fine (Image: lucid- alternate-i386.iso, 15.01.2010). After updating to the machine booting is no longer possible. The problem does not seem to be kernel related though. The machine hangs directly after grub loading, before I get the chance to select a kernel. The initial image contained kernel 2.6.32-10 (booted fine), after the update I have 2.6.32-12 (additional). The machine hangs before I have the chance to select either kernel. -- virtualbox: Lucid alpha2 does not boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Today's update/build (2009-07-15) fixed the problem. After installing today's updates and a subsequent reboot the resolution went back to normal. Afterwards installed current build to confirm, the resolution is fine here as well. I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 (ubuntu-9.04-alternate-i386.iso). While this installation still comes with an xorg.conf the file is empty. This is a clean install of Ubuntu karmic, meaning that I have done no modifications to any configuration files. As such, there is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf. [Bug 398490] [NEW] [karmic] Too low resolution on Intel 945GMS
Public bug reported: Currently using daily build (karmic-alternate-i386.iso) from 2009-07-11 + latest updates. Hardware is an Asus Eee Box B202 with Intel 945GMS chipset and Samsung SyncMaster 2233BW. Screen resolution is limited to 1024x768 even though the attached monitor supports up to 1680x1050. This resolution is properly supported with Ubuntu 9.04 and was also supported by Ubuntu karmic up until recently (not certain, but I think it stopped working when the kernel switched from 2.6.30 to 2.6.31). During system startup the splash screen seems to be using the maximum supported resolution, however the logo is located on the upper left corner instead of screen center. [Bug 387096] Re: Can't see Windows 7 in grub 2
This is from the Known Issues of the Alpha 2 release: Due to the conversion to GRUB2, installation will fail if you try to install Karmic Alpha 2 on a system with other OSes installed. This will be fixed for Alpha 3. As a workaround in the meantime, you can choose to use GRUB1 instead by booting with the option: grub- installer/grub2_instead_of_grub_legacy=false. (385995) I guess this issue is related to it. The same happened on my test machine, Windows 7 RC is no longer available after installation of Karmic Alpha2 (which does not come entirely unexpected, since I did happen to read the Known Issues before installation ;). [Bug 282203] Re: Wacom tablet hotplug is no longer enabled by default
@Alexia: I guess the justification for this decision is, that, according to the release schedule (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IntrepidReleaseSchedule), Intrepid is past final freeze now. Since this is neither a security problem nor a release critical bug it's sadly not going to be in 8.10. While I agree that the workaround as such (copy file from a to b) is simple, the required knowledge (that the workaround is, in fact, a simple file copy) is not easy to come by. When I first went looking for information on how to enable my table in Hardy I found a lot of outdated (mis-)information. I'm quite convinced that a lot of people will use said information for Intrepid unless they happen across this bug report. -- Wacom tablet hotplug is no longer enabled by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282203 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I reinstalled Intrepid using the current NetInst. In this case the tablet does not work _at all_ after installation. [Bug 269479] Re: [intrepid] Low color resolution on Mobility Radeon X1600 and Desktop Effects
@Bryce: I think the problem indeed occured last after an upgrade. So far it hasn't happened again and I haven't been able to reproduce it on purpose. Not quite sure, but i think it also happened once when switching between 8.04.1 and Intrepid (dual-boot), after I tried to install fglrx on 8.04. Again, unable to reproduce. @Mark: I agree with your observation about colours. Some of them display fine, only a few seem off. Calling it Low colour resolution is probably wrong. However, I don't know how to better describe the effect ;) For me the problem always disappeared after a reboot, the screenshot then displaying just fine on the same computer (notebook). So it would seem the colour information gets mangled between the video memory and display (unless the screenshot is not a direct dump of video memory contents?). I was able to get the tablet working by rebuilding the kernel module, using the current beta sources from the Linux Wacom Project (linuxwacom-0.8.1-4). This includes pressure sensitivity in GIMP (You have to manually enable the tablet: Preferences/Input Devices/Configure Extended Input Devices...). It would be nice if someone could confirm this. Sorry if my comment about xorg.conf was misleading.
