Code: #!/bin/bash export DISPLAY=:0 source ./discover_session_bus_address.sh unity unity save it and give both script execution permissions: chmod +x discover_session_bus_address.sh chmod +x recover_unity.sh Now, every time unity freezes, use CTRL+ALT+F1, login and, within the folder where those scripts were saved, type source recover_unity.sh -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1426751 Title: Ubuntu-desktop not working when suspend/resume or connecting an external monitor -after upgrade this week (14.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1426751/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1426751] [NEW] Ubuntu-desktop not working when suspend/resume or connecting an external monitor -after upgrade this week (14.04)
Public bug reported: I was happily using 14.04 with my Lenovo Y50. When I installed it, I had some troubles making my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB works with hardware acceleration, etc, but at the end everything was OK. THIS WEEK (around 02/25/2015) an update destroyed this beautiful equilibrium: I can't resume after suspend and I can't plug or unplug my external monitor without having a weird problem: a) Desktop moves half of it size to the right. b) Mouse works, but I can't click on anything. The only workaround is killing the Xorg, and loosing the session. What I tried, without success: 1) Downgrade Compiz (the first suspect, it was upgraded this week). Nothing. 2) Install ALL possible NVIDIA drivers: 2.a) Nouveau 2.b) Nvidia 304 Nvidia 304 updates (blacklisting and purging nouveau) 2.c) Nvidia 331 Nvidia 331 updates (both from repository and NVidea website). (blacklisting and purging nouveau) 2.d) Nvidia 340 (from Xorg-edgers ppa). (blacklisting and purging nouveau) 2.e) In every case, I purged previous drivers before, reconfigure Xorg, etc, etc, etc. 3) Reinstalling Unity and Ubuntu-desktop I honestly don't know what else to do, but this situation it's very annoying. Hi Luke, Super_M does nothing, Super_S takes me to the top bar and Orca lands on the Applications button. But I cannot get to the indicator applet. This doesn't happen all the time, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it either. When it does go distorted, you can tab away from the control you were on and tab back to it, and it will speak the control properly at the normal speed. Public bug reported: 13.10 was already installed and my working version in its own partition (dev/sda3) 14.04 beta 2 was newly installed into its own partition (dev/sda4) System was left unbootable and broken because Grub could not be found at boot time. To try and fix the problem I used the boot-repair-disk-64bit.iso (dowloaded from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair- cd/files/latest/download?source=recommended). This was apparently updated last for 13.04. The contents of README.diskdefines are: #define DISKNAME Lubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail - Release amd64 #define TYPE binary #define TYPEbinary 1 #define ARCH amd64 #define ARCHamd64 1 #define DISKNUM 1 #define DISKNUM1 1 #define TOTALNUM 0 #define TOTALNUM0 1 The tool was not able to run completely on its own with the Recommended repair option which in the past had worked properly. Instead, it gave me a list of commands to run in a terminal which I ran. The commands said they worked and the repair tool completed without error but the system could still not boot afterwards. -- How I fixed the problem: Booted Live/CD Deleted EFI and 14.04 partitions Recreated EFI partition Reinstalled 14.04 Apparently, the same can be accomplished from the command line but didn't see the posting before reinstalling. --- Upon further investigation, it appears that 14.04 uses a newer version of Grub? Although, the source of the problem may not be related to Ubuntu specifically, because EFI was introduced by Microsoft, it nonetheless reflects badly on Ubuntu when the user expects the installer to simply just work. [Bug 1260150] Re: Mouse freezes when power adapter not plugged in
The bug definitely exists on my machine with 13.10 but there's no need to backport to 13.10 since I've adopted 14.04 as my everyday build. Despite being an early alpha release, it is working well. [Bug 1260150] [NEW] Mouse freezes when power adapter not plugged in
Public bug reported: If the power adapter is plugged in (with power) the mouse works perfectly as well as the track pad. If the power adapter is unplugged the mouse freezes after about 10 seconds of inactivity. Plug the adapter back in and it works again after being unplugged and plugged in again. If I keep the mouse moving it works, as soon as it is motionless for a few seconds it hangs. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1260150 Title: Mouse freezes when power adapter not plugged in To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1260150/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

help with magnification in 12.04
Hello List, I use ubuntu 12.04 with Orca 3.4.2 in unity 2D and also installed the fallback session. So I also can work with GNOME without effects. I only work with speech. For a couple of friends who wants to try Ubuntu with magnification I need your help. In the keyboard preferences on the tab short cut keys I set: 1. Alt_Control_M to toggle magnification on or off; 2. Alt_arrow-up for zoom in; 3. Alt_arrow-down for zoom out. But there is no result by pressing those shortcut keys. Re: virtualbox in 12.04 refuses to install a guest
I was very surprised how well Orca works with virtualbox, not for 100% but enough to find my way. After starting virtualbox I pressed Control_N for to start similar clicking on the button NEW, which is not accessible for Orca. The Tab key navigates through the items. After finishing the settings of a Guest it will show in the List. Rightclicking on the Guest opens a submenu accessible with the arrow keys. Also the flat review keys read some of the screen. A very important thing is to add a cd / dvd player for to install from a cd or dvd. This was done by first open the Setting menu and tab once from the Save Option. Orca says Tree and I did a right click to open the dropdown menu. With the arrow down key I then do the rest. Are other Ubuntu flavors also being impacted? How about Kubuntu, Pinguy and other desktops such as LXDE, XFCE. Perhaps this can help narrow the problem down. I've experienced the hanging problem apparently randomly and without USB devices attached. It seems to happen most when I'm using Firefox 13.0. The mouse cursor still moves but no keyboard and cannot click on anything. Also I've had the windows title bar disappear repeatedly. Sometimes I can make it recover, but usually not and more recently when I do a Unity reset (unity --reset) thes script hangs and never finishes executing when it used to work. I'm waiting for the new Vinux based on precise to come out before trying our new LTS, or at least I'll wait a little while; so I've been learning a bit about what is and isn't possible from this list and some other reading. One of the things that won me over to Ubuntu/Linux in the beginning was the ease of backing up and making custom bootable USB-pendrives and live-CD's. I know that the remastersys dev seems to be less than enthusiastic regarding this program of late. (of late means more than a year actually) Why is the question. Is the software fragile, bugs just waiting to pop out with any changes and updates, or does he just not have the time to give to proper maintenence, (with out more compensation anyway), or is there some issue with the latest Debian/Ubuntu releases that complicates things? Last I heard he was indicating the second, but who knows. AnywayI hope remastersys dev resumes, /or some other similarly usable program is available. Abnd of course we need this program to be accessible. I can't believe there's nothing in precise to take remastersys's place.
