[Bug 876666] [NEW] Ubuntu classic missing in Ubuntu 11.10
Public bug reported: I am sticking my neck out and reporting the omission of desktop choice when logging in as a bug. The Unity interface is more or less impossible to use therefor I feel it is essential to maintain the old interface for the following reasons: 1. It has structured program groups which is one of the most important features compared with MS windows 2. It uses the desktop more efficiently than the Unity interface (configurable and hide menues, smaller icons etc) 3. Faster - the new interface is really slow 4. Absolutely timewaisting to find applications - close to impossible Also - login shows user id's again which is a security exposure and not only that - it also adds the guest login which is a security nightmare. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/87 Title: Ubuntu classic missing in Ubuntu 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/87/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 723024] Re: Mail reply does not send mail on ssl port - uses port 25
Found the problem - previous version of Evolution handled all settings in the main window settings dialouge. For some reason those settings does not take effect in the new/ reply mail window. Needed to do the SSL settings there as well. I would still classify this as a bug since the new behaviour is rather illogical and differs from previous versions. I fail to see any reason for not making all communication settings (in this case setting for the smtp server) in one place, i.e. the Evolution main window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723024 Title: Mail reply does not send mail on ssl port - uses port 25 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Evolution 2.30.3 (Ubuntu 10.10) has a problem with sending secure mail (ssl) when klicking reply to a mail - interesting enough creating a new mail works fine !!! Previous version of Evolution (Ubuntu 10.04) worked fine. Using reply to a mail Evolution sends the mail on port 25 even though settings says ssl (port 465). [Bug 305723] Re: MTU in 8.10 set to 576/ ignores override/ does not work with a lot of routers
** Description changed: Ubuntu 8.10 (no problems with any previous release from 6.06) sets MTU size to 576 (ifconfig) on wired interface (here eth0) (previous releases takes the MTU value given by router DHCP - in this case 1500) which is to low for many routers. I have tested this with a number of different routers to find an acceptable value - 1000 seems to work on all routers in my collection. First found on a Netgear FVS318V3 (interestingly enough the V1 version of the FVS318 works ok with 8.10). Any way 8.10 should take the MTU value sent by DHCP if existing - some testing reveals that 8.04 also ignores the MTU value sent by the router (assuming that the router FVS318V3 performs according to documentation and sends MTU size - I have no means of verifying this as of now). Problem symptom is that communication starts up fine but as soon as something larger than 576 comes back it hangs (i.e. no response). Tried to override the MTU value statically but it gets ignored. Suggest setting a value around 1000 as default. Further more the PC:S I have tested this on has Gigabit cards - 576 is to low for those speeds. Maybe a default setting that varies with the potential speed of the card would be nice ? + + REQUESTED INFO: + I am glad to hear that 8.10 should not pick MTU size of 576, unfortunately I have had it on all 3 machines I have tested it on - all with different motherboards and processors (P4 and AMD 3000+) all with different network cards. [Bug 99684] Re: Backspace key not ignored rather than displaying previous url in Firefox 2.0.0.3
I originally reported this as a bug for the simple reason that it is a changed behavior from previous version. I have worked rather long in the IT industry and from my experience the worst thing a software developer can do is changing user interface behavior between releases, especially when it concerns shortcuts and keystrokes in general. What a user prefers in general is besides the point, even though I do not believe that anyone can say what users want or prefers - look at Microsofts usability lab - they change Words menues around for every release claiming that the usability lab experience indicates that the new look is better... -- Backspace key not ignored rather than displaying previous url in Firefox 2.0.0.3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99684 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 99684] Backspace key not ignored rather than displaying previous url in Firefox 2.0.0.3
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox In previous version (Ubuntu 6.0.1 -- upgraded to 6.10 and then to 7.04 beta - i.e. might have occured in 6.10) the backspace key in Firefox gave previously browsed URL. In 2.0.0.3 it is not active (i.e. no reaction on pressing backspace key). Low prio but rather annoying. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Backspace key not ignored rather than displaying previous url in Firefox 2.0.0.3 https://launchpad.net/bugs/99684 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
