From the link pak33m provided - I suppose pm-utils or linux kernel
should be the associated package.

2009-03-20 Thread excogitation
Ok - I get the message as information only then - on every boot - since
Hibernate/Suspend doesn't work at all on my machine.

As far as I'm concerned this can be closed - I will go file separate
bugs about my not working Suspend/Hibernate.

[Bug 190414] Re: Clocksource tsc unstable add 10 seconds to the boot time.

2009-03-20 Thread excogitation
I also get this message during boot - but from what I read it's not a
problem:

As far as i know Pentium M processors have dynamically changed clock
speed (ofc to save power). That's why kernel notice that TSC is
unstable (it is indeed). [...] I don't think that there is an easy way to fix
it (it is not even a
bug), time-stamp counter is not perfect... [Pawel Dziepak]
http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0707.1/0621.html

Most laptops mentioned here do use a Pentium M (- Centrino).

The tsc message still shows with 2.6.28-11-generic/Jaunty Alpha
[0.00] Fast TSC calibration using PIT
[2.877852] Marking TSC unstable due to TSC halts in idle
[3.348014] Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -412296801 ns)

Boot time tests (Acer 8106wlmi Pentium M 1.87Ghz):

Standard boot options: ~1:08
clocksource=tsc ~6:51 (I wouldn't want to use that)
clocksource=hpet ~1:08

I think there multiple seperate issues being talked about here.

The initial bug talks about no results,

then there's the no email/just emails indexed issue

and lately there's a lot of talk about wrong numbers displayed.

So go file your own bugs ;-)

[Bug 319297] [NEW] Volume Applet doesn't close automatically anymore

2009-01-20 Thread excogitation
Public bug reported:

I hope this isn't a feature (well if it is you should be able to choose the
behaviour) - anyways I noticed that
(from some Intreprid Alpha version on) the Volume Applet didn't close
automatically anymore.

I was always too lazy to report this as a bug - but now I felt like it needed
reporting.
I attached a screenshot if you don't know what I'm talking about.

1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2) tell me the packagename and I tell you the version
says: Volume Applet 2.24.1 Using GStreamer 0.10. in About

3) I expect it to close one clicking somewhere else (like it did in
Hardy)

4) it stays open until you click the icon again

[Bug 163544] Re: tracker search tool shows no results

2008-10-14 Thread excogitation
I reindexed and now results show up (not just a number and an empty
result field) - just that before I had all my IMAP emails (Evolution)
indexed - which are now gone :-)

[Bug 278804] [NEW] E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (1) on libc6

2008-10-05 Thread excogitation
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dpkg

I don't know if it's a bug - but it was suggested to file a bug report
(see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=939129)

I don't know exactly how I managed to end up where I am now - but if I try to
update using update-manager I end up getting this error

E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (1) on
libc6

As I see it the libc6 installation didn't finish and after two days of trying -

[Bug 268356] [NEW] Cannot unmount volume error

2008-09-09 Thread excogitation
Public bug reported:

I always get this error Cannot unmount volume when I unmount an SD card from
the right-click menu.
I don't know if it matters that I use an USB SD card-reader ID 058f:6331 Alcor
Micro Corp..

The thing is that it gets unmounted correctly afaik (no more disk
folder in /media).

Running sudo umount /media/disk/ works without the error.

I've seen some bug reports regarding this error message for Hardy Heron but
none for
Intrepid Ibex.

[Bug 234125] [NEW] hibernate fails with [fglrx:KCL_Enable_Pat] Pat entry 2 is already configured

2008-05-22 Thread excogitation
Public bug reported:

when I choose shutdown - Hibernate I end up with a black screen,
one line: (I think those first numbers are somewhat random)

[ 891.422207][fglrx:KCL_enable_pat] *ERROR* Pat entry 2 is already
configured

then after some 10 seconds the machine reboots (without shutting down properly).
The previous desktop session gets lost.

I'm using an Acer TM8106wlmi but according to the only thread on the topic I
could find
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5019757
this error can also occur on Thinkpad T42p and Dell Inspiron E1505.

I'm attaching dmesg output (from after restart) and will provide you
with any addidional information - if you tell me what you need.

Right now I'm using the latest fglrx drivers from Ati (8.5)
$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7537 Release

but the same problem occurs with the drivers from the repositories as
well (also did with the version before).

btw I'm using Hardy with all the latest updates.

[Bug 202630] Re: [Hardy] Itel PRO Wireless button light not working

2008-03-17 Thread excogitation
I don't know if I'm right here, but the same problem occurs with an Intel 2915
a/b/g card
(and with 2200 b/g cards - there are some threads on ubuntuforums.org - but no
one seems to take the time to post it here),
but there is an easy fix.

echo options ipw2200 led=1 | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/options

or adding
 options ipw2200 led=1
 to /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200

I don't really care if the light is on or not - as long as my wireless works,
but some might be used to
having a led blinking when searching for available networks or having the light
as an indicator for
a working connection.

Maybe there's a connection betwen this and these bugs: 176090 175829
(but I can't tell).

[Bug 191725] Re: [Hardy] LCD Brightness Applet doesn't work properly

2008-03-17 Thread excogitation
I just wanted to let so. know that the applet isn't working on Acer TM
8100 series as well.

When you hover you get: Cannot get laptop panel brightness

Should I open a seperate bug? (I always use the Fn keys anyways, but
maybe so else wants it to work)

[Bug 200529] Re: [Hardy] No sound since the 2.6.24-12.19 kernel version

2008-03-10 Thread excogitation
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 200338 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200338

Possibly same problem here.

When I click Open Volume Control:

1st error:
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This
means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that
you don't have a sound card configured.

You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the
speaker icon on the panel and selecting Remove From Panel from the
menu.

2nd error:
No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.

With the 2.6.24-11 kernel 'everything' works fine.

Feel free to ask if I can provide you with further information.

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

2008-03-05 Thread excogitation
I feel the same:
No, the DPI shouldn't be set to 96 on a 150dpi screen. It should be set to 150.
Firefox should cope and offer a way to configure its size (for people who like
small images with large text), instead of forcing everything to be huge.

There should be options (in FF) wheter or not you want:
- The interface
- The page
to be scaled (and to what size)

Is this bug already posted to mozilla bugzilla?
