ChrisSteinbach, your solution worked for me, thanks a lot! In my case there are some details thought: 1-using nomodeset I could actually see what I was doing 2-text mode with network, failed me(3G usb minimodem), I just mounted my windows partition, which had the linux nvidia driver 3- I use nvidia linux driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.21.run, which is run sudo sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.21.run 4 - my path was not /proc/acpi/video/PEG0/LCD0/EDID, but /proc/acpi/video/XVS0/LCD0/EDID. I could obtain this path using a lot of cd /directory and ls commands 5-unable to modify a text file on text mode, I just used nomodeset again and entered failsafe-x, where I could actually change xorg.conf. [Bug 660331] Re: hp touchsmart 600-1010br no video
Hello people, i´m here to report my findings lately: Having been able to enter ubuntu in failsafe x, I updated the entire system, and also as the link I said before on askubuntu showed, I installed the nvidia drivers, first the usual way, later manually, downloading from nvidia site the drivers file and giving sudo sh on the file. Both ways have made my ubuntu live more miserable, as both resulted in ubuntu showing the initial loading screen, then the screen went black, then white, then colorfull(not necessaryly in this order), again and again until I restarted with ctrl+alt+del. nomodeset wasnt working anymore too. Since I had got really happy which ubuntu at least started, I had moved all my files from windows to ubuntu(some important ones too), before the crazy after-driver update screen problem. Then I passed hell to retrieve my files after the video driver update, as the /home partition was encripted and I had to recover it the hard wayhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedPrivateDirectory, as ubuntu encryption helper file failed me. After I reinstalled the root partition, I solved my encription problems ubuntu text-mode way. I find strange which installing the video drivers gave such results, when it should actually enable ubuntu to boot with normal graphics. Also don´t forget to call me when there is a possible fix. I asked if there isn´t other way to help without having to enter ubuntu for such. [Bug 582604] [NEW] Duplicate move window option in ubuntu
Public bug reported: i do not know how where to put this, and I accept advise. It´s a really minor thing, I just noticed there is a move windows option both in SystemPreferencesKeyboard hotkeys, and again i have the same option in Systempreferenceswindows. If I unplug the minimodem before ubuntu boot or when it stucks at comand line interface, then ubuntu proceeds to the normal graphical user interface. What is interesting, is which after i installed the usb-modeswitch package and removed it, sometimes ubuntu stucks at comand line still, even using only the manual usb-modeswitch version currently. To test if this too is caused by usb-modeswitch package alone probably i would have to do a clean install of ubuntu and this time use only the most up to date unpackaged version to see if this issue happens stil. [Bug 472151] Re: ubuntu 9.10 no sound
How do I run the log when the sound dissapears, if audio never appeared? If what you´re asking is to force reload alsa until i get sound and wait for a rather random secondary issue were the sound dissapears again after appearing with alsa force reload just say -- ubuntu 9.10 no sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/472151 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 473768] Re: nautilus crashes with many svgs
Just to experiment I created another folder and filled it with svgs to see until which point nautilus could handle. Here after 3 svgs nautilus says it is processing something, but it is pratically frozen for a lot of minutes. It is it, nautilus is processing the svgs, but very slowly, the program is pratically frozen when entering a folder with a few svgs( 4 was enough to pratically freeze it). -- nautilus crashes with many svgs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/473768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 473768] Re: nautilus crashes with many svgs
Nautilus does not really crash, but it freezes, maybe gdb only detects crashs, but freezed programs arent recognized as bug? I think nautilus is working, processing the svgs thumbs, but at turtle speed, which isnt good and need to be fixed if other people have the same problem. Is there any program for recording a video of my desktop? If needed I can record when the problem happens in my desktop, since it happens always anyway. It´s not one svg, its about 8 of them or more in a folder. The folder has some logo design, ideas and development ideia, you know, confidential stuff. Can I send the folder to your e-mail? I was looking and you have 4, not sure to what one i should send it. I cannot show the folder to public yet, but I think youre alright , and will not do anything bad with it. More info: I tried to navigate in the folder from inkscape( from fileopen ) 20 minutes ago, and nautilus froze too. as i write this comment it is STILL frozen, i will need to terminate inkscape because i cannot exit it naturally anymore with this freeze. I uninstalled before linux-sound-base, alsa-utils and alsa-base and reinstalled later, since im helping to solve a sound bug karmic has now. I heard maybe ubuntu desktop package is uninstalled when the above packages are removed. I reinstalled ubuntu desktop later, and i hope no other packages, maybe related to nautilus were uninstalled when i removed the first tree packages. -- nautilus crashes with many svgs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/473768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 473768] Re: nautilus crashes with many svgs
Note: I could remove the confidential stuff from the folder and post it here to all, but as I said I cannot acess my folder anymore. So I think the only option actually is to send it to Sebastien Bacher -- nautilus crashes with many svgs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/473768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It took me some time to understand the process, but i installed nautilus-dbg and did the tutorial about backtrace.
