[Bug 353241] [NEW] ubuntu-standard is dependant on rsync installed, most end users do not use, rsync properly does not run but shows a checked entry in systemadministrationservices that may confuse

2009-04-01 Thread Josh K
Public bug reported:

This is not a critical or important bug. However, it is worth fixing, please.
#1 ubuntu jaunty testing installs an rsync package as part of ubuntu-standard.
#2 the services program shows a checked, hence running entry.
#3 removing this 112kb package also removes ubuntu-standard.

For the sake of simplicity, ease of use, and straight-forward development,
This package should be:

At minimum, the services panel, the entry should be shown as un-checked.

On full distro release, many may make re-builds customizing their own
ubuntu flavor, and may NOT want this package, but may wish to maintain
ubuntu-standard since using normal repos and normal updating methods.

Best situation is to remove the dependency on ubuntu, and optionally,
simply for convenience , remove the rsync package from the final release
builds of ubuntu.

2009-04-01 Thread Josh K
That's funny, because one bug report upstream is classified not confirmed
and the other is new.
In reply to your post, many things have been done over time,
Compiz, new themes, new versions of gnome/gtk, but just the same,
this particular interface element has not changed at all since the very
beginning.
The beginning, for me , being warty. Jaunty will soon be released, and the
gnome-panel handles now,
in 2009, are going to be the very same as they were in 2003.

[Bug 313801] [NEW] Firefox goes nuts and eats a squirrel

2009-01-04 Thread Josh K
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Ok, I don't have the vaugest idea of what comprizis a bug report, but here goes.
I have an IBM thinkpad t40 with jaunty testing updated to latest packages.
radeon 2500 mobile.

What happens:
I open firefox.
I hover over a link.
the mouse flickers wildly, the news drop-down button on the bookmarks menu
rapidly focus-unfocuses
and the little indicator at the bottom of the screen flashes the link at a
million milli-noblings a second.
This issue randomly vanishes and reappears.

[Bug 293739] Re: Input Signal Out of Range(Specific to Full-Screen Apps)

2008-11-05 Thread Josh K
The answer is yes. This issue is program specific. Disabling
compiz(which I did) does not effect the full-screen program, as it
attempts to directly modify monitor parameters. Also, as for the example
program, I was able to check some sites and get a fretsonfire.ini file
with a [video] section and place the file in
terlmann/.fretsonfire/fretsonfire.ini . With full-screen disabled ,
the program works fine. This problem effected multiple programs though.

Re: [Bug 158550] Crashes OOo and FireFox

2007-10-30 Thread Josh K
l Would guess that the problem is actually the new SDL libraries, which don't
get along well with any ati cards, Fgrlx or Xorg powered. Try switching
anything with SDL in the name back to a feisty version, it may resolve the
problem temporarily.
However, the most accurate way to detect the problem is to run the application
that is crashing from a terminal by entering the program's name in. The name
can be found in Alterce (I think) ,which is the gnome menu editor(not included
by default, I think), by opening the menu editor and double clicking on the
name of the program. Then you would see a application path below a title. simply
copy the second line and paste it in a terminal. Using the broken theme , fool
around until you get errors, and feed us any of those errors that have the
words gnome, resilience, or just anything you think could be related, and we
will have more evidence to solve this. This theme has been around since before
edgy. I really don't think the problem is with the theme itself, the odds are
rather low. It was last updated on Bazaar(Launchpad) 42 weeks ago by Daniel
Holbach ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) who made some minor changes to a script in the
package at that time and has been responsible for
other changes in it since it was uploaded to Launchpad.

Andy Choens [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: resilience-theme

This theme has been causing me problems for weeks and I didn't even know
it.

I started using this theme about the same time Gutsy went gold. Since
then FireFox has been crashing on me often, sometimes several times a
day. To make matters worse, OpenOffice.org Base started freezing up
whenever I tried to edit a table or start a new project.

I have been looking for problems in FireFox and Base and I couldn't find
anything useful.

Tonight I randomly changed my theme to Clearlooks. Base runs perfectly
and FireFox is running faster and hasn't crashed yet.

I am running Gutsy with the ATI-FGLRX (possibly the real problem)
driver. I am not using any desktop-effects. All of my packages come from
the default Ubuntu repos.

[Bug 130281] Installation of Povray 3.6.1 doesn't include necessary include directory

2007-08-03 Thread Josh K
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: povray

I installed Povray (Version string: 3.6.1 (Debian (i486-linux-gnu-g++
4.1.2 @ i486-pc-linux-gnu)) . I used the package povray from the
feisty multiverse (I have deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/ feisty
main multiverse restricted in my sources.list).

Anyway, the installation made the directory

/usr/share/povray/

with subdirectories
/usr/share/povray/icons
/usr/share/povray/ini
/usr/share/povray/scripts

but not the necessary include folder, namely
/usr/share/povray/include

which contains necessary files such as colors.inc and textures.inc.
I looked through my drive for these files anywhere else to no avail. Not
sure how the install managed to miss this, but shouldn't be too hard to
fix. Thank you for your time.
