[Bug 1923632] Re: Screen flickering

2021-04-13 Thread Linux NN
Hello,

I was affected by the same bug as you following the Linux
5.8.0-49-generic kernel update (everything is ok with the
5.8.0-48-generic kernel)

However, the problem has been solved with the X.org update which has
been available for a few hours.

Can you look for new updates available and test after updating the X.org
server and restarting the PC?

[Bug 1918137] Re: Ubuntu 21.04 Hirsute: i386 package cleaning process

2021-03-21 Thread Linux NN
The i386 architecture has not been removed entirely in the latest
versions of Ubuntu.

Cleaning should be possible.

Please note, Linux kernel 5.4 must be available for Ubuntu 18.04 i386
with Ubuntu LTS enablement (also called HWE or Hardware Enablement)
stacks.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is the last maintained 32-bit version with 5 years of
support.

To limit the impact on the environment, unnecessary packages should be
removed.

Setting MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965 does resolve this issue
completely, however I am wondering why this is not selected

[Bug 1881494] Re: [amdgpu] suspend to ram (standby) crashes amdgpu (Ryzen-7 Vega - HP Envy x360)

2020-08-24 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Reading the initial bug report I see kolAflash said

> nomodeset seems to be essential, but not sufficient.

When I added nomodeset to /etc/default/grub (
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset" ) then I can boot
without issues, but suspend does not work. To reiterate:

 * the TTY1 screen is not blank on boot
 * sleep works
 * suspend does not work - you get this bug

Given this error in syslog:

> kernel: [0.047848] You have booted with nomodeset. This means your GPU
> drivers are DISABLED
> kernel: [0.047849] Unless you actually understand what nomodeset does,
> you should reboot without enabling it
> [0.047849] Any video related functionality will be severely degraded, and
> you may not even be able to suspend the system properly
> [0.047849] Unless you actually understand what nomodeset does, you should
> reboot without enabling it

I tried a few things without nomodeset in grub options. In this case:

  * the default screen, TTY1, (CTRL-ALT-F1) is blank on boot (or has the HP
logo only)
  * sleep works
  * suspend doesn't seem to work. If you leave the laptop in suspend mode for a
long time it does not resume. The screen is black with just a white underscore
on it. The last log lines in /var/log/syslog is

 systemd[1]: Reached target Sleep.
 systemd[1]: Starting Suspend...
 systemd-sleep[8263]: Suspending system...
 kernel: [ 9425.088936] PM: suspend entry (s2idle)

As a workaround for the default screen being blank on boot, you can go to TTY2
(CTRL-ALT-F2), log in and run startx from the command prompt.

Some tests:

* This does not seem to be the same issue as
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204241

because the following command works just fine.

for i in $(seq 30); do sudo rtcwake -m mem -s 5; sleep 15; done

* I've tried adding GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1080 to /etc/default/grub but that
doesn't seem to solve the issue with the screen on TTY1 being blank on
boot.

The commands pm-hibernate and pm-suspend give the errors in /var/log/syslog
> [ 2566.154192] Lockdown: grep: hibernation is restricted; see man
> kernel_lockdown.7
and nothing happens

The command pm-powersave gives the same "hibernation is restricted"
error in /var/log/syslog but the system goes blank and the is
unresponsive.

[Bug 1881494] Re: [amdgpu] suspend to ram (standby) crashes amdgpu (Ryzen-7 Vega - HP Envy x360)

2020-08-23 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Update 2: This isn't actually fully solved. What's working is short-term
"Sleep" but if you leave the laptop lid closed for a while it goes to
suspend (s2idle) and that crashes the system.

[Bug 1888070] Re: latest update freezes system on boot

2020-07-20 Thread Linux User
Neither 111 nor 109 kernel nor any older would work with a full boot
into system.

So I was advised to get rid of the amdgpu drivers and make sure the open
source AMD drivers are installed.

https://amdgpu-install.readthedocs.io/en/latest/install-installing.html
#uninstalling-the-amdgpu-graphics-stack

amdgpu-uninstall

https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-the-latest-amd-radeon-drivers-on-
ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt update && sudo apt -y upgrade

Additionally I installed
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack though I am not sure
if I had to also use that.

Possibly simply uninstalling the amdgpu drivers that are not compatible
with the latest kernel and switching to the open source Mesa release
drivers would also have been an option, though this is speculation.

Regardless with the open source AMD drivers I do not have any AER issues
(could also not get rid of those with pcie="noaer") and can enjoy a full
boot into the system with latest kernel and all updates.

coming up and the boot process never finishing.

I also found out that when booting with kernel

7.5.0 (Ubuntu 7.5.0-3ubuntu1~18.04)) #110-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 23 02:39:32
UTC 2020

the problem is gone. But when I use the 111 kernel the pcie errors come
up again and the system boot hangs on it.

This is my graphics card, it was suggested that the pcie errors might
have to do with that, not sure about this.

[Bug 1886561] [NEW] network manager applet for authentication is not working

2020-07-06 Thread Linux-Elch
Public bug reported:

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release:20.04
2) see attached apport report

3) When I try to connect to our companies Cisco Anyconnect VPN server I
expect to get a dialog for authentication as I did on my Lubuntu 16.04
installation

4) Instead of a dialog I only get a notification "Connection lost, no
longer connected to VPN"

I verified that the VPN connection setup is correct by using the command
line interface:

nmcli -ask connection up "ConnectionName"

This will ask me on the terminal for my authentication details and when
the connection is established the network manager applet will show
"Connection established"

However, when I use nmcli without "-ask" it will fail as well, while the
same command on my 16.04 installation will bring up the dialog.

mutter-common (ex: Regolith 1.4/20.04)
1. launch gnome-control-center from terminal
2. navigate to display tab

Observed behaviour:
(gnome-control-center:54513): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 13:49:43.782: Settings schema

[Bug 1769890] Re: Icingaweb2 does not work with PHP 7.2

2020-01-08 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Can confirm in Jan 2020, still an issue with Ubuntu 18.04.3

Fixed by following changes in

https://github.com/Icinga/icingaweb2/pull/3315/commits/dadd2c80f6819111f25e3799c072ec39c991897e

and John Gerde's note above.

What's the best way to help move this into a release for 18.04?

2019-11-26 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Also happening with HP Zbook x360, but only recently started (today).

As a workaround to stop your HD from filling up with this, create the
file

/etc/rsyslog.d/10-hidsensor.conf

With the two lines:

# Disable runaway messages:
:msg, contains, "hid-sensor-hub 001F:8087:0AC2.0003" ~

Then run

sudo service rsyslog restart

Scratch that, I mixed up the commits, sorry for the noise.

But I still wonder if
https://git.kernel.org/torvalds/c/12e36d98d3e5acf5fc57774e0a15906d55f30cb9
should be backported, as I see warnings mentioned in Bug 205163 here as
well on a system with a 3168

[Bug 1846016]

2019-10-23 Thread linux
(In reply to Luca Coelho from comment #32)
> Here's the patch that was sent upstream:
> https://lore.kernel.org/linux-wireless/20191009094853.PfIm3J8o7DN_Femup-

That
patch/https://git.kernel.org/torvalds/c/12e36d98d3e5acf5fc57774e0a15906d55f30cb9
 is not marked for stable afaics. I wonder if it should, as it contains this
line:
```
Fixes: f5a47fae6aa3 ("iwlwifi: mvm: fix version check for GEO_TX_POWER_LIMIT
support")
```
And that patch was recently backported to 5.3:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.3.y=3a0b7157d6a9833cefd40b5f0fa1cc90285bb4b5

Thus I suspect that 12e36d98d3e5 should be backported, too. I guess Bug
205163 is an indicator for that, as it talks about Linux 5.3.5.

So I'd guess that the create statement in /etc/logrotate.d/mpd should read

   "create 600 mpd audio"

and not just "create 600"

[Bug 1842683] [NEW] Default Install of mpd not able to open /var/log/mpd/mpd.log on Disco Dingo so mpd.service fails.

2019-09-04 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Public bug reported:

Brand new installation of Ubuntu 19.04 (Disco Dingo) on laptop.
Reviewing syslog messages returned the following

Sep 4 09:36:31 REDACTED mpd[1606]: exception: failed to open log file
"/var/log/mpd/mpd.log" (config line 39): Permission denied
Sep  4 09:36:31 REDACTED systemd[1590]: mpd.service: Main process exited,
code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Sep  4 09:36:31 REDACTED systemd[1590]: mpd.service: Failed with result
'exit-code'.
Sep 4 09:36:31 REDACTED systemd[1590]: Failed to start Music Player Daemon.

I can easily fix by modifying permissions or modifying the config file, but
reporting as this probably impacts others.

I have the problem of not being able to select an .iso with usb-creator

You go the iso you want, try to select it, but nothing happens. I was
able to create one USB stick for Elementary OS, but with other

be selected, but another cannot.

My problem is usb-creator doesn't work in Kubuntu 18.10. It fails to

version running on Kubuntu. Actually the two versions look very much
the same, and have the same fault, which is it's impossible to create a
USB stick with a distribution on it.

[Bug 1099201] Re: Transcode can't rip DVD's (in K3b with file type MPEG4)

2018-06-10 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Got this same error with Ubuntu 17.10 and k3b.

The k3b debug window shows

--
/usr/bin/transcode --log_no_color --progress_meter 2 --progress_rate 551 -i
/dev/sr0 -x dvd -T 1,-1,1 -a 0 -j 0,0,0,0 -R 0,/tmp/k3b_0.log -y ffmpeg -N
0x2000 -A -o /tmp/foobar.avi -F mpeg4  -Z 848x480

...

*** Error in `/usr/bin/transcode': munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer:
0x7efd97e43f3a ***
Aborted (core dumped)
--

However: If I run that same command in bash it creates an ok file. It appears
that this error message from transcode causes k3b to delete the file even
though it appears the file was created ok by transcode.

Fixed like in #4 by commenting load-module module-switch-on-connect out of
/etc/pulse/default.pa

Have not tried any plug-in-devices to see if this fix affects their
usage.

[Bug 1725504] [NEW] qtractor crashed with SIGSEGV in g_rec_mutex_get_impl()

2017-10-20 Thread Joe Linux
Public bug reported:

On a fresh Ubuntu Studio 17.10 64-bit, Qtractor 0.8.3 is crashing each
time when trying to select-add, for example, a DSSI plugin installed by

I've put in in my preseed late command script.

Only no desktop icon for oem-config-prepare, need to run it in terminal

[Bug 1416189] Re: AMD [Firmware Bug]: cpu 0, try to use APIC500 (LVT offset 0) for vector 0xf9, but the register is already in use for vector 0x400 on another cpu

2016-08-29 Thread Linux
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1152484 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1152484

Supposedly, [bug #1152484](https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1152484)
addresses "AMD family 10h cpus". I am having this issue with the Trinity
CPU (15h), the same processor from this bug report, which [according to
a user who submitted a kernel patch for the other
bug](https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1152484/comments/20)
indicates a slightly different bug.

Perhaps we need to re-open this bug and address the actual firmware bug
and system slowness that results from this issue.

2016-07-23 Thread Linux
Sounds like rric has fixed a harmless error message, but that a firmware
bug still exists, from comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1152484/comments/20

Are you suggesting that we should open a new bug report for the actual
bug? That would cause no small amount of confusion because searching for
the error text will lead directly to this report.

I am running an A8-4500M AMD processor.

I read in some comments that the format of /etc/network/interfaces can
confuse Ubuntu's back-end processing for ncftool. I tried removing all
comments and simplifying that file as

and rebooted. It did not solve the issue.

[Bug 1579988] Re: Image will not delete

2016-06-08 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Exact same thing happened to me.

Tried LXD for the first time ever. Created then deleted an image. Still shows
up with
"lxc image list"

lxc version: 2.0.1
lxd version: 2.0.2
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release: 16.04
Codename: xenial

Noticed that /var/lib/lxd has uid/gid = lxd/nogroup

Halverneus' delete-it-all method worked to reset.

[Bug 1438510] Re: [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp

2016-04-25 Thread Linux Lurker
@karlgrz

I saw the issues you were having and had recently just figured out the
same work-around. Just as I was going to post it for you, I see that you
too have narrowed it down to this repeatable behavior.

For me however, I do not switch back to HSP, rather I turn the profile OFF in
pavucontrol "configuration" tab. Then I disconnect the bluetooth using the its
graphic interface.
The next time I connect the bluetooth device, it connects just fine. Then I
simply go to the config tab in pavucontrol to switch the device to A2DP sink.
It works every time this way.

In the past, switching the profile to OFF in pavucontrol prior to disconnecting
the bluetooth device was unnecessary.
I am currently running Kubuntu 16.04 LTS, but have had 16.04 installed since
beta. This regression was not present for me in any previous versions.

Maybe a better location that is better accessible with car?
You have to have a plan currently to enter Ghent.
I like "De Leest" in Izegem.
Maybe together with the linux groups in Kortrijk and Linuxbabbel?

[Bug 1552398] [NEW] sgml2html exits 0, even though LinuxDocTools.pm encounters errors

2016-03-02 Thread mar...@linux-ip.net
Public bug reported:

Processing good (valid) files works fine. With a very small bad sample file,
you can see below that the sgml2html utility (which is calling into
/usr/share/perl5/LinuxDocTools.pm) is exiting zero even though it probably
should simply die.

$ sgml2html  --split=0 linuxdoc-bad.sgml

nsgmls:0:13:4:E: end tag for "ARTICLE" omitted, but its declaration does
not permit this

Gevaarlijke toestellen die medions.
Misschien kan je ubuntu laten opstarten via de windows bootloader.
Want andere opstartmogelijkheden in de bios zal je niet hebben.

[Bug 1532460] Re: Please upgrade to allow virsh blockcommit in Ubuntu 14. libvirt-1.2.9 (and above)

2016-02-15 Thread Anonymous Linux User
It works well in Ubuntu 15 and checking the package list for xenial
shows ( http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/ )it has versions of qemu=2.5
and libvirt= 1.3.1 so it is a feature that is in 16.04 as well.

Not tested, but looks good.

[Bug 1532460] [NEW] Please upgrade to allow virsh blockcommit in Ubuntu 14. libvirt-1.2.9 (and above)

2016-01-09 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Public bug reported:

This is a feature request ticket.

Blockcommit makes snapshot/commit steps take fractions of a second

Perhaps Trusty-Proposed?

[Bug 1525310] [NEW] virsh with apparmor misconfigures libvirt-UUID files during snapshot

2015-12-11 Thread Anonymous Linux User
Public bug reported:

Reproducible: Yes, every time.

Background:

When you create a virtual machine (VM) under KVM/Qemu in Ubuntu,
apparmor files are created as:

/etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-
  and
/etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-.files

And in the file /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-.files there is
the line

  "PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE" rw,

where PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE is the full path name of the image. ( E.g. something
like  /var/lib/libvirtd/images/asdf.qcow2)
and is the UUID of the VM container.

The problem:

When creating a shapshot of a running VM under KVM/Qemu you run the
command

$ sudo virsh snapshot-create-as DOMAIN_NAME   DESCRIPTION   --no-
metadata --disk-only --atomic

which creates a new file and stops writing to the old VM block device.

However: the old PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE in /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt
/libvirt-UUID.files is deleted and replaced with the new block device
info BEFORE virsh is done creating the snapshot. So you get the error

error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'transaction':
Could not open 'PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE': Could not open
'PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE': Permission denied: Permission denied

and in /var/log/syslog you get the error:

type=1400 audit(1449752104.054:539): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
profile="libvirt-" name="PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE" pid=8710 comm
="qemu-system-x86" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=106 ouid=106

When you look now at /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-.files you
find that the line that was there

  "PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE" rw,

has been replaced with

  "PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE.DESCRIPTION" rw,

but you need BOTH LINES. in order for the command "virsh snapshot-
create-as" to work. (or at least have the old file have read
permissions)

-

Workarounds:

1. Disable apparmor for libvirtd

2. Change /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt- to look like this

--
#
# This profile is for the domain whose UUID matches this file.
#

#include

profile libvirt-UUID {
  #include
  #include

  "PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE*" rw,
}
---

(
  So if the old line was
 "/var/lib/libvirtd/images/asdf.qcow2" rw,
  , the line you can add would read something like this

  "/var/lib/libvirtd/images/asdf*" rw,

)

[Bug 1525310] Re: virsh with apparmor misconfigures libvirt-UUID files during snapshot

2015-12-11 Thread Anonymous Linux User
** Description changed:

  Reproducible: Yes, every time.

  Background:

  When you create a virtual machine (VM) under KVM/Qemu in Ubuntu,
  apparmor files are created as:

  /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-
-   and
+   and
  /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-.files

  And in the file /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-.files there is
  the line

-   "PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE" rw,
+   "PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE" rw,

- where PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE is the full path name of the image. ( E.g.
something like  /var/lib/libvirtd/images/asdf.qcow2)
- and is the UUID of the VM container.
+ where PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE is the full path name of the image. ( E.g.
something like  /var/lib/libvirtd/images/asdf.qcow2)
+ and is the UUID of the VM container.

  The problem:

  When creating a shapshot of a running VM under KVM/Qemu you run the
  command

  $ sudo virsh snapshot-create-as DOMAIN_NAME   DESCRIPTION   --no-
  metadata --disk-only --atomic

  which creates a new file and stops writing to the old VM block device.

  However: the old PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE in /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt
  /libvirt-UUID.files is deleted and replaced with the new block device
  info BEFORE virsh is done creating the snapshot. So you get the error

  error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'transaction':
  Could not open 'PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE': Could not open
  'PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE': Permission denied: Permission denied

  and in /var/log/syslog you get the error:

  type=1400 audit(1449752104.054:539): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
  profile="libvirt-" name="PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE" pid=8710 comm
  ="qemu-system-x86" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=106 ouid=106

-
-   "PATH_to_BLOCK_DEVICE.DESCRIPTION" rw,
-

- but you need BOTH LINES. in order for the command "virsh snapshot-create-as"
to work. (or at least have the old file have read permissions)

+ create-as" to work. (or at least have the old file have read

  Workarounds:

  1. Disable apparmor for libvirtd

- or
+ or
  2. Change /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt- to look like this
+
