[Bug 619929] [NEW] Authorization via user password breaks after uninstalling then reinstalling ubuntu-desktop

2010-08-18 Thread rusivi
Public bug reported:

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04

2) apt-cache policy ubuntu-desktop
ubuntu-desktop:
  Installed: 1.197
  Candidate: 1.197
  Version table:
 *** 1.197 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What I expected to happen is if I uninstalled, then immediately
reinstalled ubuntu-desktop, the requirement to type my password to
install packages via Synaptic Package Manager or update software via
Update Manager would still exist.

4) What happened instead is that after uinstalling, then immediately
reinstalling the ubuntu-desktop package, if I install or uninstall a
package via Synaptic Package Manager, or update a package via Update
Manager, it no longer requires my password.

[Bug 619929] Re: Authorization via user password breaks after uninstalling then reinstalling ubuntu-desktop

2010-08-18 Thread rusivi
After about 20 minutes of installing different packages, it is now
prompting me again to input my password to access Synaptic. At this
point, this bug is considered closed as it seems the functionality was
not broken, it just took some time for it to kick in.

my user input. It has happened once over 2 days playing Lufia II: Rise

days. I cannot reproduce the conditions of the crash, but it has
happened enough times for a bug to be created.

[Bug 608396] Re: KeePassX 0.4.3 bricks keyboard in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-07-28 Thread rusivi
Matt, thank you for addressing this bug.

I have reinstalled KeePassX (as well as performed numerous updates,
including Firefox 3.6.8), and have not seen the phenomenon manifest
itself again.

At this point, this bug is considered closed.

[Bug 608396] [NEW] KeePassX 0.4.3 bricks keyboard in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-07-21 Thread rusivi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: keepassx

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

2) apt-cache policy keepassx
keepassx:
  Installed: 0.4.3-1

  Version table:
 *** 0.4.3-1 0

3) What I expected to happen is after freshly installing KeePassX and
adding one entry that associates with a Firefox title bar, and changing
the Global Auto-Type shortcut to:

Ctrl+Alt+a

It auto typed the information successfully and I was able to login.
However, I could no longer type any keys. Every time I pressed d all
my windows would minimize. If I pressed Alt+Space then c it would not
close the window. I had to restart to stop this phenomenon. All the
other letters would not type into anything.

[Bug 490685] Re: WINE 1.0.1 + Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended scanning not integrated for OCR Scanning with HP Officejet 5610v, Ubuntu 9.10

2010-07-15 Thread rusivi
After updating to newest wine and Ubuntu Lucid:

 lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

apt-cache policy wine1.2

  Installed: 1.2~rc7-0ubuntu2

 1.1.42-0ubuntu4 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe Packages

I was able to download (in Ubuntu via User Agent Switcher in Firefox,
where Default is Internet Explorer 8, otherwise Adobe bricks the install
claiming one is not using the correct OS) install and run the trial of
Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended briefly. I scanned to PDF with OCR
functionality working perfectly via HP Officejet 5610v. I closed the
program, then re-opened it, and after completing a second, OCR PDF scan
I got among many messages:

Licensing for this product has stopped working. You cannot use this
product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and
then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT administrator or
Adobe customer support for help.

At this point, this bug is considered closed.

it would flawlessly install and allow downloading of iTunes Store

4) What happened instead is that after successfully installing and
starting iTunes GUI, was in middle of downloading podcasts from iTunes

seems to be correlated with Distnoted.exe failing to launch.

[Bug 602475] Re: Trash bin distorted after restart in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-07-06 Thread rusivi
This problem also manifested itself coming out of hibernation. GNOME/pm-
utils upstream believes that it was a driver issue that caused the
glitch. Because this happened coming fresh from a clean shutdown, it
seems this problem is due to the radeon driver:

[Bug 576562] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 does not successfully hibernate on Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934

2010-07-05 Thread rusivi
Freshly installed Lucid, fully updated, (ex. updating to the newest
versions of pm-utils and gnome-panel) and made an fsarchived backup of
the install. Then, performed 4/4 successful hibernations consecutively
with different apps open. However, after restarting a few times the
trash bin became glitched just like in the screen shot. I restored the
fsarchive, and restarted a few times but the glitch did not happen. At
this point this bug is considered tentatively closed but will re-bug if
it happens again.

[Bug 476508] Re: HP Printer Deskjet F4100 series not working after updating from 9.04 to 9.10

2010-07-03 Thread rusivi
I have an HP Officejet 5610v USB connected to a Toshiba Satellite
L305D-S5934 with Ubuntu 9.10 and I also have the same problem. I try to
power cycle the printer, disconnect then reconnect the USB cable, and
click System - Administration - Printing - right click the printer
icon and check Enabled. The only thing that recovers this is to restart
the laptop, but if after I do so I disconnect then reconnect the USB
cable, then I would have to restart the laptop again.

It may be due to a problem with system-config-printer-udev:

apt-cache policy system-config-printer-udev
system-config-printer-udev:
  Installed: 1.1.12+git20090826-0ubuntu8
  Candidate: 1.1.12+git20090826-0ubuntu8

 *** 1.1.12+git20090826-0ubuntu8 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The solution would most likely be to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 which
contains the newest version of system-config-printer-udev.

[Bug 590947] Re: ubiquity crashed with InstallStepError in configure_plugins() in Ubuntu 10.04 VM in VirtualBox 3.2.4, Ubuntu 9.10 Host

2010-06-25 Thread rusivi
A new version of VirtualBox (3.2.6) has been released, with a work
around for Linux hosts with the ext4 filesystem, which is most likely
the cause of this bug. Downloaded the newest version of VBox, and
successfully installed and updated a Ubuntu 10.04 VM. Hence, this bug is
considered closed.

[Bug 596126] Re: Sensors-Applet crashes after secondary clicking icon then primary clicking Help

2010-06-20 Thread rusivi
Alex, thank you for addressing this bug. The solution is certainly
upgrade to a newer version of sensors-applet. In order to do so I need
to either upgrade to Lucid (does not work for me presently due to other
outstanding Lucid bugs), or install the newest version of sensors-applet
(not familiar with how to). This bug is considered invalid and would be
more appropriate as a question.

result of a bug in VirtualBox (please seem upstream bug link), and not
Nautilus. This bug is considered closed.

[Bug 575166] Re: Cannot stream Netroadshow content despite having appropriate media content in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-06-04 Thread rusivi
It appears that this problem may not be a bug in Adobe Flash Player, but
with how my Windows Media Player or Real Player equivalent
application presents itself to the website and vice versa.

The reason is because of the following test: I used Windows XP, I did
not have Real Player installed, uninstalled Windows Media Player
components, disabled Windows Media Player ActiveX components in IE,
installed the newest Adobe Flash Player, and navigated to the page. I
got the same error prompt, but when I looked at IE - Tools - Manage
Add-Ons, the Shockwave Flash Object was loaded into IE and enabled.

This bug is a unfamiliarity with how to use OCRAD. No documentation
exists through a search via www.ubuntu.com Hence, this is more a request
to boil down the OCRAD manual (
http://www.gnu.org/software/ocrad/manual/ocrad_manual.html ) into
something more streamlined and easy to understand and use. Can we please
have some official Ubuntu documentation and examples?

[Bug 576562] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 does not successfully hibernate on Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934

2010-06-01 Thread rusivi
I got a little over-zealous on placing this in a confirmed, then fix
committed status and marking myself assigned to make the fix. The only
thing I have been able to do is successfully hack/work around the issue.

In addition, GNOME-applets upstream believes this hack manifested the
following GNOME-applets Trash Icon visual glitch bug:

[Bug 576562] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 does not successfully hibernate on Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934

2010-05-31 Thread rusivi
Dan, thank you for answering my questions. Regarding the GART error
inquiry:

+ search at /var/log/kern.log
for example at my log file, the line had looked like
kernel: [ 9.020414] [drm:rs400_gart_adjust_size] *ERROR* Forcing to 32M GART
size (because of ASIC bug ?)

Yes, in the bug attachment file kern.log, I found the following error type
prompt regarding GART:
May 7 01:08:11 name-laptop kernel: [ 21.978365] [fglrx] GART Table is not
in FRAME_BUFFER range

[Bug 576562] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 does not successfully hibernate on Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934

2010-05-31 Thread rusivi
I successfully hibernated after following the nomodeset recommendation
for GRUB2 found at:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/ReleaseNotes

It mentions changing a line from /etc/default/grub to:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=nomodeset

I saved the file, ran sudo update-grub, then I was able to hibernate
successfully.

However, I noticed a graphical distortion of the trash bin icon at the
bottom right (please see attached trashbin.png)

[Bug 576562] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 does not successfully hibernate on Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934

2010-05-30 Thread rusivi
Dan, thanks for addressing this bug. Here are responses to your
questions:

+ you have an ati radeon graphics card?
Yes:

lspci | grep VGA
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780MC [Radeon HD 3100
Graphics]

+ do you recognize something like a gart setting failure at startup?

No, but I do not know where to look for this at startup. Which log file
would I find this in?!

+ try to boot with 'nomodeset' kernel option

Can you please provide step-by-step instructions on how to do this with
the new GRUB for Ubuntu 10.04?

I am not technically equipped to troubleshoot this bug, and from
upstream's E-Mail response, it is more a user unfamiliarity with
esoteric dependencies, not a bug. Seems more of a wishlist to further
streamline ocrad for commonly desired functionality and ease of use.

is after a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 install and updating, I could successfully
hibernate, just as I could in Ubuntu 9.10

4) What happened instead is that when I choose hibernate, it seems to
attempt to hibernate, then the computer shuts down. When I press the
power button to come back from the hibernation, the login splash screen
comes up instead of the anticipated Locked splash screen. When I log
in as the same user as I had when I hibernated, it's a fresh desktop.
As well, I noticed that NetworkManager Applet GUI icon in the top left
notes it is disabled and I did not disable this before I hibernated.
