there's a bit more to it than that. for me its modal specific stuff.
like adding quirks and installing pm-utils as well as what you just
mentioned that fixed it

[Bug 122577] Re: system freeze on resume

2007-11-21 Thread vivichrist
but I think it was more complicated than that h.
something like:

1.change POST_VIDEO=false in /etc/default/acpi-support

2.add :
...
match key=system.hardware.product contains=V6000
merge key=power_management.quirk.s3_bios type=booltrue/merge
merge key=power_management.quirk.s3_mode type=booltrue/merge
merge key=power_management.quirk.vbemode_restore type=booltrue/merge
merge key=power_management.quirk.no_fb type=booltrue/merge
/match
...
to /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-hp.fdi

3.install pm-utils package.

4.switched off sync to vblank in nvidia-settings gui and compiz
settings.

possibly more

I was once able to fix this by stopping powernowd ...?

but I found a good way to fix it was to add:

type=booltrue/merge
merge key=power_management.quirk.no_fb type=booltrue/merge

[Bug 122577] Re: system freeze on resume

2007-11-16 Thread vivichrist
yes and no ...
with 64bit version of gutsy and noapic kernel boot parameter ...no
with 32bit version, after several successful resumes and vt switching works
fine then on resume blank screen.
note though that this is with compiz and nvidia 6150 chipset (with no sync to
vblank and 'option NvAGP 1 ') ...yes
and with noapic create other problems.

and then its back with vengeance (but not 64bit gutsy ... have to use noapic
all the time and works flawlessly).
but vt switching works fine.
also, it seems to me to be time dependant i.e the longer my laptop is up and
running (i will confirm this)

2007-09-19 Thread vivichrist
that particular bug seems to have been quashed for me I can switch between VT's
and X. where as before I could switch to any VT and get a blank screen from
which I could not return from and either had to push power button or
CTRL+ALT+DEL or hard reset.
I have amd64 gutsy though and used envy to to compile drivers for generic and
rt kernels.

[Bug 138350] [Gutsy] drawing automation in ardour 2.0.5 is broken

2007-09-08 Thread vivichrist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ardour-gtk

Ok I can draw the nodes on the automation track but when I go back and
adjust those nodes, this doesn't happen straight away but after lot of
automation tuning, the nodes slip back to either the previous node or
the start of the track and can be adjusted vertically but not
horizontally. clearing the automation for that control I can no longer
enter any automation other tracks react similarly at this point.
restarting the application does not change this state.

[Bug 137405] [gutsy] cycle of respawning xserver until stuck or in X with Xglx window

2007-09-04 Thread vivichrist
Public bug reported:

yep I get respawning Xserver with xgl and compiz fusion this random as in
somtimes X may get all the way to the desktop and respawn or get to the splash
etc. eventually I may get to a stable desktop session, just with a window named
Xglx that if I click within, hang the system (only mouse and power button seem
to work) and I have to shutdown with the power button. Or X gets stuck with a
peach colored background and mouse cursor, but can VT switch. forcing respawn
to login with alt+ctrl+bckspc gives the later.
On removal of autologin only failsafe works

2007-08-22 Thread vivichrist
update:
this doesn't happen when I plug in a usb mouse before suspend. I useto get
a beep about 5 min. after boot and then after resume spurious irq 7 disabling
... usb did not work after resume but does continue to work when I plug in a
usb mouse before suspend.

I think this is linked to a kernel bug I reported a long time ago, but
still yet to be fixed (low priority) due to being model specific (buggy
bios?).

this is annoying though.

also keyboard doesn't freeze actually ... just don't know the shortcut
keys.

[Bug 114507] hal metacity updates stops suspend/resume function

2007-05-13 Thread vivichrist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

after a metacity and hal update my hp compaq presario v6000au no longer
suspends.
and what used to happen was forcedeth would jump from eth0 to eth1 and back
again upon resume.
now network link is lost, I suspect my not configured on-board wireless (wlan0)
roaming.
suspend-to-disk worked fine before with a few quirks.

2007-05-07 Thread vivichrist
dame ... was hoping ... praying that there was something in there that
could be useful.

I can't see the point in testing the nv driver since opengl graphics
hardware acceleration is the culprit.

I get black screen on switching VTs regardless of compiz/beryl.

does pcigart exist?and if so as what? there is nvidia-agp module

$ lsmod|grep agp
nvidia_agp 9500 0
agpgart 35788 3 drm,nvidia,nvidia_agp

is what I get.
on resume from compiz session I see a lit black screen then unlit black screen
the lit black screen with small colored box behind where the pointer happens to
be.
can move the pointer ... small colored box stays where it is, but the keyboard
doesn't respond, however the power button does so ...

mc says that it belongs to me? /home/me/Desktop/stuff. so tried a couple of

[Bug 88683] Re: [apport] jackd crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_cond_wait@@GLIBC_2.3.2()

2007-03-26 Thread vivichrist
um...
this was a very random kind of bug.
I did successfully start jackd.
what I mean is ... this is difficult to reproduce.
I cannot honestly say that I know the events that led to this happening.
I was just repeatedly starting and stopping jackd. whenever the blue light on
my unit stayed on no further connection could be established. so I used
gscanbus to reset it. I can't see any pattern to reproducing this bug. I think
timing may have somthing to do with it, also. i.e The time between turning on
the unit or reseting, and starting jack.
also jackd fails if input/output channel numbers are not specified.
