I would suggest creating standards for third party installers so that all third party softwares that require the user to go to the site to download the app, should ensure that the download is available as a .deb file that can be installed on a simple double click without requiring the user to go to the terminal. Actually, it is working, for example if you download Adobe Flash (Which is totally maintained by third party), after successful download it will open gdebi-gtk, where you can install it from GUI, But let's take the case of Skype, it will detected by binary file, actually it's not bug of Ubuntu, but how third party hosting the package. 2. Similarly there should be standards for Themes, Ubuntu should have themes available as a package that can be installed on a simple double click, something on the lines of .themepack files introduced by 7. So that a new user doesn’t get confused with the 10 different ways to getting a theme to work. Let me get more information on that. 3. All the codecs required the run the standard media should be available on the installation CD and it should prompt the user during installation to install with/without third party codecs. Legally speaking, it doesn’t really make a difference if you’re providing the codecs on the site or on the CD, if both mediums are being provided by you. Check [1], [2]. Re: [ubuntu-in] What you want to see in Ubuntu 9.10?
Shivakumar Bharadhwaj, According to yours, I am a simple PC user. ubuntu has option to install within XP as a part of windows software. Simply install ubuntu within Xp just like MSword installation and it will appear in the list of ADD/Remove of XP. If you want to uninstall, simply go to Control panel-add/Rem. You will see there will be ubuntu enlisted on which simply click on change/remove. Automatically removed/uninstall theubuntu and restored to fat32/ntfc as the case may be. In personal experience this method is better than installing throliveCD or direct install. Re: [ubuntu-in] What you want to see in Ubuntu 9.10?
Hi, My suggestion is to add a feature like system restore which a user can restore his system from OS just like XP. I know there is a feature in all Ubuntu distors, but currently user have to restore his system using the CD/DVD media. Its better to include this restore feature within the OS. Also, if possible please make this restore more easier for a new Ubuntu user. I will think of more Ideas. Lets make Ubuntu Better :) Thanks, -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

Hello Hardik, One thought that came to my mind was the default mirror selected for Ubuntu, it is currently the IIT site which I'm not sure is up-to-date. If not, could you discuss changing the default to some European or Japanese mirror which I seem to always get full/high speeds on? Easy to do manually but I'm not sure what is the user experience in general... The CD should support Telugu, Kannada etc at boot time itself. Padma plugin for firefox should be packaged as default for firefox, as it supports several indian language websites.
