Re: [ubuntu-marketing] Better involvement
Sorry for my late response, I was away last week. 1. Unfortunately we cannot give anyone pre-notice of news. This is because we may have to pull news at the last moment depending on partner or customer requests or other internal considerations. This happens all the time. So we cannot manage having news with third parties and then trying to ensure that they pull the news also. It's not workable. Okay, I can understand this. 2. However, if you send me an email address we can ensure that the news is distributed to you at the same time as it goes to other news channels. Could you send them do me directly? Otherwise you could subscribe [1] to our mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] and send the mails there. 3. Also we don't control the news. I would guess that in many occasions what you are reacting to is some external site commenting on Ubuntu or a Dell announcement say, or even something in Mark's blog. Very often we find out abut this at the same time you do - when we read it through google alerts. so even by putting you on the distribution list , you will still find that this only covers about 1/3 of the news that is out there. But this would be better than nothing. :) I read Mark's blog of course but most Ubuntu news I receive via external German news sites. More generally, it would be pretty helpful to have one central collection of the various news sources - perhaps the Fridge could provide an aggregated feed of its own stories, the Ubuntu website news section, and any other Ubuntu news sources which we feel might be relevant? Yes, one single site or feed would be a lot easier to check and read every day. So we thought maybe it's possible to create a better connection between the Canonical/Ubuntu marketing team and the German news team so that we can post Ubuntu news when they are really happening. We think it would be better if the Ubuntu users read the news in an offical portal instead of on some third-hand news site. Of course we are reading the Ubuntu news [5] but most times we read it later than others. So is there a way we could work together in better way? Hi, Adjusting quoting accordingly, and adding fridge-devel to cc: addresses. I think it's clear that asking for advance notice of sensitive news information is inappropriate. However, some broader issues arise here which I think the various news sources can work on. We need an rss feed for the news section of the Ubuntu website - I'm pretty sure we have a bug open about this and that Matthew is working on it, so not too concerned about that.
