Re: [ubuntu-mythtv] Change Right/Left menu behavior?
Cliff Dunn says: > I prefer the navigation of the Mythbuntu theme the way it currently is. > This works great with my Logitech Harmony remotes' arrow keys. I'm the one who wrote to Thomas proposing the change to the theme. If implemented, the change would not affect using LEFT and RIGHT to move between the group and recording panes in the theme at all. The proposal is to remove the use, hard-wired into the Mythbuntu theme, of RIGHT as a synonym for OK/SELECT/MENU and LEFT as a synonym for ESCAPE. The issue is to remove an inconsistency within the Mythbuntu theme. Why does RIGHT sometimes mean OK/SELECT, sometimes mean MENU (only in the right pane of Watch Recordings and nowhere else), and sometimes actually mean RIGHT? Why does LEFT sometimes mean ESCAPE and sometimes mean LEFT? There was a time, years ago, when having RIGHT as a menu button synonym made some sense because back then mythfrontend had two separate menus in Watch Recordings, but 0.23 fixed this and only one menu button is now needed. The proposed change would make LEFT and RIGHT work as (only) left and right everywhere, consistent with other themes whether vertical or horizontal-oriented. -- Ubuntu-mythtv mailing list Ubuntu-mythtv@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-mythtv
Re: [ubuntu-mythtv] Change Right/Left menu behavior?
I prefer the navigation of the Mythbuntu theme the way it currently is. This works great with my Logitech Harmony remotes' arrow keys. However, the fact that I have a programmable remote means that I can configure my arrow keys to replicate almost any key sequence required. The post was about changing menu navigation to work like all the other vertical themes, which currently use the default of OK/ESCAPE rather than RIGHT/LEFT. Currently (AFAIK) we differ in how navigation is handled in our theme (RIGHT/LEFT) from all other themes out there (OK/ESCAPE). Functionality wise I don't think we gain anything from doing it other than consistency for people going from one vertical theme to another. I'll let everyone else weigh in on their thoughts before I say which way I prefer. Why would that be needed? What functionality would be gained by doing that? It seemed to be a post asking why a change was done when I read it, but based on your description the MythBuntu Theme is the same as all themes were prior to 0.22, right? I for one like it the way it is. I would have a lot of complaints in my house if the right arrow suddenly didn't move the cursor over into the episodes pane on the watch recordings screen. I understand the necessity of a horizontal theme, but I don't understand why we would change one that does not necessitate that. The default behavior for all themes prior to 0.22 is what you see now in the Mythbuntu theme. This default behavior had to change in 0.22 because in 0.22 themes are now allowed to have horizontal menus (example http://www.mythtv.org/w/images/7/71/Terra_menu3.png). If you open the theme chooser and download another theme (IIRC, steppes) you should see this behavior of having to hit OK rather than RIGHT to decend into a menu. [ubuntu-mythtv] Change Right/Left menu behavior?
Per my previous email, I've added this for discussion (it was sent to me in a private email). "I noticed after migrating to 0.25 (I tend to keep my MythTV setups stable for long periods) from 0.24 that the Mythbuntu theme was hardwired to interpret RIGHT as Menu and LEFT as escape, à la the way all themes behaved pre-0.22. Given that the great RIGHT/MENU controversy of 2009 is long past us--with only one MENU button now needed and horizontal themes common--I'd prefer to revert the theme to the 0.22-0.24 behavior of having LEFT and RIGHT wrap and relying on the existing MENU and ESCAPE bindings. Was there a reason for the change? Do you feel strongly about it on eway or another?"
