US website theme RFC & request for screenshots
Howdy, As mentioned in another message today, I have posted some screenshots of the Drupal 6 theme that I am developing for the US website. You can see the images here: https://picasaweb.google.com/jorge.g.mare/UbuntuStudioArtwork# Input/feedback is welcome, but please note that this is still at a very early stage, so be nice and ignore the rough edges (which there are many). Also, please ignore the wording; I am using mostly borrowed text as placeholders. Now I have a request. I would like to have screenshots of US in action, particularly in the application space and user cases that US specifically caters to, to use as artwork in the front page and also as part of the Screenshot section that will be added later. So I am asking you, US users, to send me your screenies. Assuming this list does not accept attachments, feel free to email them to me privately. Thanks! Design concepts for Ubuntu Studio 11.10
Some of the recent threads have been a bit intertwined so I'm gonna make 1 thread for conceptual ideas for Studio 11.10. This tread is not for UI discussion. It's for thematic/concept discussion Studio-wide. OS, Website, marketing, ect... As per Ricardo's comments here: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-studio-devel/2011-April/003036.html I would like to see if the Libre Graphics guys would like to help with more than an ad. The Libre Graphics advertisement is independent of the website update. The offer from the Libre Graphics folks was for the next edition which is scheduled to drop in May. I do not think we have the latitude to change this deadline without confirming with ginger, Ricardo, or Ana. I *think* Cory is suggesting that we schedule to roll the website out in time for 11.10. I had originally hoped to draw some attention to Ubuntu Studio and solicit some graphical design work flows from professional graphic artists who use open source tools with the advertisement. Re: Ubuntu Studio 11.10 UI discussion. GNOME3, Unity, XFCE and Studiousers workflow.
So just looking over a few days it looks like the general consensus if that XFCE will be fine. (i'm still gonna wait for more opinions) There's been many questions that require data to answer. I cannot answer everything. I'm here to head up the effort. So, the folks here will have to pull together and do some investigation if real numbers are needed. Note, that I'm against just messing with our seeds a bunch to create different disks. That said, if anyone wants to hack on some custom live disks (outside of our normal build system) to use to use for testing that will be most welcome. Lastly, I think waiting 'till this weekend to have a generally agreed upon direction is the way we're gonna go. We can't leave a topic open indefinitely. -- -Cory K. -- Ubuntu-Studio-devel mailing list Ubuntu-Studio-devel@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-devel

I confirm that using Puredyne (based on a previous Ubuntu, desktop choice: Xfce) on a old laptop for live session is quite lighter and faster than Ubuntu Studio. Xfce, even with applications needind gtk librairies, is very light and stable. Re: Ubuntu Studio 11.10 UI discussion. GNOME3, Unity, XFCE and Studiousers workflow.
Te problem isnt on the WM per se, but on the amount of lib it needs to load to work, plus the "weight" of its associated applications. For instance, thunar (XFCE file manager) Is way more lighter than Nautilus (gnome). Using Gtk doesnt mean that XFCE is as heavy as Gnome. You should try xfce and compare. 2011/4/12 : > I'm down for xfce if that's what the majority wants. We recently took this approach with the audio package selection. We determined which tasks users would mostly likely desire, developed work flows based on the available applications that supported these tasks, and then modified the package selection accordingly. The applications shipped on the image were fewer in quantity but more effective this way. The work flows also provide the frame work for developing documentation and tutorials. I for one, have spent the past ten years using the Gnome interface and feel very comfortable in it. So much so that I anticipate UI annoyances to drive me away from Ubuntu if they stick with Ubiquity. Sorry if that's a rant/uncompromising attitude, I just wanted to share with the group my honest and heartfelt feelings on the subject (and yes I have been giving Ubiquity a steady test run over the last year or so). XFCE does not seem like it has anything to offer other than old/reliable code. It's not even that much lighter than Gnome from what I understand last time I looked into it. - Eric Hedekar On Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 5:41 PM, Tim Pitman wrote: > Here's another vote for XFCE > > On Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 5:05 PM, ailo wrote: > > On 04/11/2011 07:26 PM, ailo wrote: > >> To test Gnome3 with Ubuntu ScottL tipped us about this one: > >> http://ugr.teampr0xy.net/ > > > > This didn't work for me. > > I'm moving on to Fedora Alpha release and will give that a testrun with > > some multimedia programs instead. > > > > -- > > ailo > > > > -- > > Ubuntu-Studio-devel mailing list > > Ubuntu-Studio-devel@lists.ubuntu.com > > Modify settings or unsubscribe at: > https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-devel > > > > -- > Ubuntu-Studio-devel mailing list > Ubuntu-Studio-devel@lists.ubuntu.com > Modify settings or unsubscribe at: > https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-devel > -- Ubuntu-Studio-devel mailing list Ubuntu-Studio-devel@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-devel
