Howdy,

Although this is still very much work in progress, I thought I would
put the new website in it's current state on a staging URL so that you
guys can play with it:

http://www.myhaiku.org

There is still quite a bit left to wrap up the theme, so I will
continue to work on my local copy as it is much faster. Feel free to
use the staging site online and provide feedback on this thread, but
please do not expect changes to it right away; instead, I will upload
updated iterations of the site periodically so that you can see the
progress.

Long story short, this is still very much work in progress, so be nice. ;)

Enjoy!

Jorge

 Howdy,

Just wanted to let you know that I have not vanished from the map. :)
Real life (mostly work) has been hectic lately, but I hope to have
some time to resume work on the new website theme towards the end of
this coming week. Keep you guys posted.

Thanx Jorge. I think we all know you have other things to do as well. :)

I personally feel that things will be slow until the 11.10 repo opens
up. I'm doing mostly investigative work 'till then. My plan is slowly
 taking shape. :)

looks great jorge.

On a more unrelated note is there anyone on us's team dedicated to social
media? I work as a social media consultant at webconnection (a small web
development firm in baltimore), and would be willing to do some complementary
social media work for ubuntu. I think it will be very helpful, especially with
the launching of the new site.

I noticed US doesn't even have a twitter! tsk tsk

@Jorge. Thank you very much for this stellar work. It will surely make
the 11.10 release that much stronger.

A few questions. On the logo text, are you using the ubuntu font or
our SVG logo? Reason I ask is because the kerning is different between
the two, Its tighter on the SVG. Also, the tagline under the logo is
not our official Let Your Creativity Fly or ... damn there was
another. :P Anyway, a new tagline is totally up for discussion. :)

Good on you man. :)

I just followed the original tagline and let my creativity fly :)

Consider both the logo and tagline as placeholders. They can
eventually be replaced with whatever is decided to be the official
logo and/or tagline for the next release (just FYI, the current logo
is a combination of the US graphic signature -- which tbh I don't
remember where I got from -- with text using the Ubuntu font; the text
is not an image, so the kerning may not be exact and I suppose it may
even render differently depending on the browser/resolution/etc.;
eventually, we will have to use an image for the logo).

Cheers,

Jorge

Jorge -

This looks great!

On a first walkthrough I found that I wanted to navigate the homepage's
info carousel by clicking on the images below the text held in the
unordered list with id=flowtabs.

To a certain extent this section of the page feels like an accordion
interaction, so when I couldn't click on the images I had to find out
*how* to interact with it - ie. click the text.

In the grand scheme of things, not to big, just something that *feels*
like it should be interactive.

Text looks awesome! I like the line spacing, and the subtle grey border
below the h2 tags. There is only one thing I might play with in regards
to text, and that is the post's meta content. The way it is currently
looks beautiful, but the content isn't as *scan-able* By that I mean
that when I scroll down the page the individual post titles (h2) stand
out, but the content of the post doesn't stand out from the meta - ie.
author, post date, etc...

In terms of a solution - Hmmm... the quick thing would be to make the
meta smaller. Another possible solution would be to not have it on the
home page, or to have a limited amount showing, when the viewer clicks
through to the single post they would get more details. I'm not as
thrilled with that solution, but it could work.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Social Media Team

2011-05-08 Thread Louie Queral
Hi friends,

My name is Luis Queral and I'm a 20 year old social-media consultant at
Webconnection http://webconnection.com, a baltimore-based web
design/development firm. I'm curious as to if Ubuntu Studio currently has a
social-media strategy, and if not, how we could plan and initiate one. I
have a fairly good idea of a marketing concept for us (as an open-source
team), and really think it would benefit Ubuntu Studio especially with the
new web-site redesign.

Also, if you would be interested (assuming there isn't a specific set of
social-media goals), please feel free to respond with your input and ideas.
