Re: [ubuntu-studio-devel] Web design/theme contribution

2019-07-07 Thread Mark Constable

FWIW the site and particularly the animated SVG is amazing, well done,
but my Firefox process in top is registering around 90% CPU usage and
my fans have kicked on this quite beefy laptop.

Also FWIW, I would put the site in place asap and not wait for some
grand future launch date. The sooner the new site is in place the sooner
folks can provide real world website feedback and design tweaks for the
next 9 months so it could be even technically better by 20.04 versus
holding back the release for some kind of marketing exercise.

As a Kubuntu user I can't thank you guys enough. Being able to
"bolt on" well supported audio tools without resorting to KXStudio
or various self-mangling techniques is such a wonderful addition to
my desktop experience.

Imagine being able to boot to a live environment with OBS already
installed, thereby having all of the tools you need to do

high-quality live-streaming out of the box.

+1*100 And hopefully a VAAPI enabled OBS at that. Screencast
recording is the main reason I use OBS. I've never live streamed
anything.

Now that the dust has mostly settled are there any plans to create
tutorials about how to take advantage of US?

I'd love to see (lots of) Youtube tutorials how to achieve task
orientated goals.

Or use something like the free versions of Elementor and Astra and
not deal with themes at all. Basic changes to the Astra theme can be
made using the Customizer and Elementor uses the concept of "templates"
that are independent of any theme in use.

Thank you for your reply. I'm not interested in anything other than
the Plasma desktop so would there be anyone other folks on this list
that might also be interested in a "Plasma Studio" version of US?

I'd be happy to join a dedicated forum or list if anyone knows of
any possible linkage with other Kubuntu/Neon A/V users?

[ubuntu-studio-devel] Plasma Desktop

2018-10-29 Thread Mark Constable

I recently read that Ubuntu Studio may be adopting the Plasma
Desktop, or at least adding it as an "official" option. Is this
correct and if so is there anywhere I can follow the progress
of this transition?

 Thoughts?

If we're no longer tied to gnome, that's excellent news. We can finally
say goodbye to pulseaudio.

As this opens up an opportunity for a new choice of desktop environment,
how about choosing something more suitable for our intended use cases,
e.g. Xfce? It's been a great success in PureDyne, for example, which
I've used successfully on far more systems than UbubtuStudio.

the forum needs to be a place to share one's knowledge just as much as a
place to ask questions.

Re: 9.04 announce? website update?

2009-04-23 Thread mark
Quoting Eric Hedekar aftertheb...@gmail.com:

So the official 9.04 announcement went out a good seven+ hours ago, which
included a link to http://www.ubuntustudio.org/downloads however there have
been zero updates to the Ubuntu Studio webpage and that link directs people
 to download 8.10

Is there a reason for the delayed Ubuntu Studio release? I see images up at
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/9.04/release/ but I've yet
to see any links pointing people there, or release notes publicized. Infact
the working release notes don't even publicize that link.

what gives? we're so close to finishing the release cycle, let's not quit
an inch from the goal line.

Are you volunteering to help maintain the website ?

I think recent posts have show there is a short fall in the amount of people
with time to spend on this project. That is probably why the site is not as
up-to-date as the commercially funded canonical website.

Re: VideoTutorials

2008-02-11 Thread Mark Stuart Burge
I can see pro's and con's to this, but one real benefit would be for end
users to see how the developer uses an application. Often features that
don't make it into the initial documentation can be revealed just by
watching the developer go through the motions. After all, who better to
demonstrate how to use a program than the person(s) who designed it. I
know, back in the day when I wrote some apps (albeit for windows) there
would inevitably be some functions that went undocumented and got
forgotten about.

I would love to see a program like Rosegarden demonstrated the way it
was intended to be used.

However, I would not want to burden the developers any more. They have
given so much of themselves to these projects already. Great work
everyone and thank you.
