It's important to report bugs. For Wily Synaptic never gets fixed, but
seemingly at least the history issue is fixed for Xenial [1].

For several reasons I switched from Synaptic to command line only,
excepted I should search something, but even this I more often do with
an Internet browser.

1. Ubuntu seemingly maintains Synaptic less good, perhaps in the hope
users will use some evil Ubuntu GUI.

2. Synaptic not really is an apt-get front-end, e.g. packages hold by
Synaptic aren't hold for apt-get and packages hold by apt-get aren't
hold by Synaptic.

3. I anyway need to handle some things, Synaptic can't handle [2].

Go ahead and add the packages but thoroughly check for incompatibility
issues between versions and/or other various bugs inside releases of the
application(s).
Currently I see no problems that may emerge in the near or distant future,
Audacious should be fine but keep a close eye on Shotwell and Synaptic.

right! :) I still wonder if rawtherapee should be included; I've never
had a single hustle-free session with it. But that is just me. However,
for that reason i know very little about it. And filing a bug-repport is
a detour compared to simply firing up the next alternative in the list:
darktable, which works great.

Anyone else has gotten better luck with rawtherapee?

Shotwel is an appreciated software, but i remember it being removed on
purpose. It couldn't handle very large photo-libraries, would simply
just crash when the library was to large. Also it tends to re-organize
photos, pretty much like iTunes does. I think it possible to configure
how, but by default, it imports and sorts the photos according to its
default settings, which i personaly think is PITA. Maybe it has become
better. But it is more of a gadget than a production tool. Also, we
already have 2 professionak RAW developers / Library Managers: Darktable
and RawTherapee and for quick navigation of photos, file-manager+
ristretto beats shotwell in both speed and simplicity. I'd rather _not_
see shotwell come back TBH.

Audacious, on the other hand, i'm sure we will get many comments for
it's absence. I for one, will have it high on my todo-list after
install. Obviously, like zequence say, it is an apt-get install away.
But hey, we provide the users with tools to create music/video,
shouldn't we provide them the tools to watch/hear it?

My 2 pennies...

I think we removed shotwell on purpose a cycle or two ago. It may have
been a (temporary) bug at the time, I don't remember now. Maybe our dev

I think I will close the bugs, and drop Audacious from the Package QA
tracker. It doesn't seem worth adding them in at this point. They can
always be installed by users that miss them.

A small list of priority packages that are in our seed somewhere
(notated as such so they don't get accidentally dropped), and mandatory
to test on the QA Package Tracker before we get to Beta Release would be
a good idea I think. We could then prioritise bug triage activities on
those throughout the whole cycle as well, and not be rushing at release
time.

We could/should also maintain a list of packages for each LTS that we
want to work on Stable Release Updates (SRU) and backports of.

I think all DEs have a media player that comes with the DE. So, I don't
see why audacious absolutely needs to be included.

The only one that seems to have dropped off is Audacious:

Probably would have to compare LTS to LTS.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't add these to to our seeds? I don't

The proper thing to do (too late this cycle) is to create a new meta for
desktop utilities we want to make sure are there no matter which DE gets
used. My list would include:

 - a video player (one that video producers want to test with)
 - audio player
 - gparted (this is on the ISO anyway)
 - synaptic
 - pavucontrol (KDE's audio control is hard to follow or porvide support with)
 - ubuntustudio-controls

This is just my personal list I have found useful as I have installed
Studio's metas on other DEs. It is not nessessarily complete or correct.

There are of course other apps I always install as well like joe, but that
is totally person preference.
