[Fwd: [Bug 720716] Re: Please add unity Quicklist support]

2011-04-08 Thread David Planella
Hi translators,

Here's a heads up on Unity Quicklist entries being translatable on the
wiki. See the forwarded e-mail below for more info.

I know the wiki is not the ideal place for translations, but it's a
workaround that will allow us to ship translations until we figure out a
better way. For those interested in more background, see also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/512395

Cheers,
David.

Ubuntu installer (ubiquity) string freeze exception

2011-04-08 Thread Evan Dandrea
Bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/752372
requests a string freeze exception for the desktop CD installer,
ubiquity. This was done to address concerns that individuals might
fairly assume the upgrade functionality in the installer and the
upgrade functionality in update-manager have the same behavior. They
do not, which I've elaborated on at
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-announce/2011-April/000841.html
.

I apologize for such a last minute change. The partitioning page of
the installer packs in a lot of new functionality this cycle and we've
been working hard to ensure that it's as clear as possible on the
different options available.

If you feel your team cannot retranslate this in time, please speak up
as a poorly worded native string is better than a completely
incomprehensible English one.

Thanks bunches,
Evan

 Hi Arjun,

Ubuntu is an Open Source project, and we can only succeed with help from
the community. Rather than hoping, my advice would be to file a bug.

I used that statement, as I do not know how much the final version will be
different from beta. I am still a newbie withregard to ubuntu builds. I
will file a bug if required after I verify the package list for dvd
distribution.

Re: String change in unattended-upgrades

2011-04-08 Thread David Planella
Thanks Michael for the heads up!

@Dennis, the string is not yet available for translation, but it will be
as soon as the template containing this change is uploaded (which should
happen soon):

I'm sorry for the inconvenience this causes you. Please note that the
translation for this is not super-important as its a corner case and
most people who see it (those who explicitely ask for mail from cron

Re: Two string changes for translation in Software Center

 Hello Translators!

We recently received a bug report from Dennis Baudys that pointed out a
non-localizable date string in the software item screen of Software
 Center (thanks, Dennis!):

   https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751068

We definitely wanted to fix this one with the result that we have two
string changes for translation as shown:

  1. 'Purchased on %s' has changed to 'Purchased on %Y-%m-%d'
  2. 'Installed on %s' has changed to 'Installed on %Y-%m-%d'

Note that we've included a comment to the translator in the .pot file
for each of these strings as well.

My apologies for this late string change! But I think the result will
be a much nicer presentation of these date strings.

Thank you for your good work!
 Gary Lasker

Thanks Gary, we really appreciate the fix and the heads up!

Regards,
David.

Re: Ubuntu installer (ubiquity) string freeze exception

Hi Evan,

thanks for warning the translators!

I think all translation teams might be able to translate it on time,
the problem is more if the POT file will be imported on time in order
to have the new string, otherwise there will be an English string in a
non-English installer.

I don't know how much time does it take right now to the import queue
to import a new file.
We might be able to speed up the approval part, but not the actual import.

What do others think?

Ciao.

RSS and email notification for translations that needs review

2011-04-08 Thread Adi Roiban
Hi,

For the Romanian team I wanted to keep the needs review counter
somewhere near zero so that new translators will get a quick feedback
and will be encourage to add more translations.

It is not really fun to see that your translations are not reviewed by
more than 2 years. This is why I created a quick and dirty hack to
generate an RSS feed and send a notification email for all the PO files
for an Ubuntu release that have new suggestions:

The code is here:
https://github.com/adiroiban/scripts/blob/master/ubuntu-l10n-review-notifications.py

It is a crude implementation but it should do the job.

The RSS looks something like this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/174543/rss-feed.png

It can also send emails, but I prefer RSS.

I have already set up a daily cron for Romanian Natty.
The code is there and you can set up your own RSS feed or let me know if
you would like me to generate a feed for your language.

I hope that you will find it useful for your team.
Any feedback is much appreciated!

Cheers,
