Re: So, now it looks like we will never get a phone, ever

2017-04-08 Thread Marcin Xc
"10-15 years until they are mature, I really don't get why phonedevelopment is
not being given the same chance."
Nokia did not. The Problem with this phone was that it was never a phone:
"first things first". If the phone used to function properly as a phone (NOKIA
3210), there would be a platform to develop it further (to Nokia N52). Ubuntu
Phone was like a Maseratti without wheels: convergence yes, but You can not
hear a call or an incoming message nor synchronize Your contacts.
This is already the second time when I see how all the hard work goes down the
drain: You didn't mention Ubuntu is going back to GNOME. All we did for GNOME 2
was killed with the immature Unity idea (I tried to work with this environment
twice and one day I decided to switch to MATE-Unity was like a step back from a
101-keyboard to a 12-button cellphone).
All what someone does over there (Canonical) is splitting the community (GNOME
to Unity switch + now killing UTouch) and discouraging people who sacrificed
their time. I'm happy that apart from the phone project I didn't waste to much
time translating Unity.

Well, that's a tinker phone. Nice for geeks like us, but for the average
user, not so much. I am talking about a phone for the average
computer-illierate who doesn't know any more about computer than swipe &
tap. We really need something out-of-the-box.

Even as a computer literate, I estimate that I'l need to spend at least
half an hour on their homepage doing some RTFM before I'll even
understand how to get the thing.

Phishing mails

2017-03-15 Thread Marcin Xc
Hi!

In a last few days I became already two messages that looked like Launchpad bug
report subscriptions. I just wanted to warn You before one of You will click
the LOW-PRICED and PRIMITIVE phishing link. I can't understand how anyone can
waste so much time sending us such complicated messages without taking care how
the link looks like. CHEAP! Good idea but poorly executed.
So think twice before You click a link that looks like a Launchpad bug and
before You share Your password to Launchpad account with reviewer rights :-] It
could be painful...

2017-01-23 Thread Marcin Xc
For my language I deleted "by". I made a space. If You take any other GPS
device from Garmin, TomTom etc. there will be no "by". Kiss- keep it simply
stupid- Połisch Anna, German Thomas, English Susanna. Especially on small
devices like E4.5 there is no need to make things more complicated.

This is, in general, a very bad string composition approach.

For translations, it's best to do something like the following:

"{language}. By {author}."

(or "%s. By %s." with a comment/context explaining what the first and
second %s are)

The reason is that some languages might have a different word order,
might not even have "by" and so forth.

Cheers,
Danilo

Re: Localize uNav 0.65 (Full localization option) (Costales)

2017-01-20 Thread Marcin Xc
Hannie, I think it is a FAST EDITOR of POI. I understand it as an easy to open
(FAST) editor somewhere on the screen that You either want to see or not
instead of opening Settings menu. Editor means probably, that You are able to
edit the list of Your Points Of Interest.

The use of word "nearest" when we mean "POI" is pretty confusing.

Sorry to bother you again about the string "Fast Nearest Editor:". I
still do not get it. What is the meaning of "Editor" in this string?
What is the relation with Points of Interest? Can you enter nearest POIs
in your smartphone using an editor like Gedit in a fast way? I prefer
not to translate this string until I understand the meaning of it.

Re: Localize uNav 0.65 (Full localization option) (Costales)

2017-01-17 Thread Marcin Xc
1. In settings we can see "Verbose panel indications". First of all I don't see
this string to translate on Launchpad. Second of all I can't see any difference
in a program behaviour when changing this setting. What is it expected to do?
2. "Avoid tools". At first I translated it blind. Then I started the app and
deleted my translation. I can only suppose that these are some tools like for
example "avoid paid roads" or "ferries". Is it right? If yes, how do we set the
things to avoid cause I can't find anything.
Cheers

Re: 1. Unity 8: power (Hannie Dumoleyn) and my 3 strings

2016-11-02 Thread Marcin Xc
Hi Hannie!
This is the string which appears over the "buttons" as a kind of header which
names the whole window.
Under it You've got a question ~"are You sure You want to turn off?" and then
the three buttons (from which one should be green and the other black ;-P Bug
#1412780).
Anyway I have there also three strings left which I do not understand and can
not find in my phone:
38. Super (Tap)44. Opens the desktop spread.104. Emergency
In case 38, 44 I have no idea what they can mean. In case 104 have no idea
where/when can I see it?
Best regards
Marcin

While translating [1] I came upon the word "Power", string # 14. The
context is: Title: Power off/Restart dialog.

Does anyone know what "Power" means here? I guess it has nothing to do
with the power supply, but more likely with "Power On / Off".

Hello translators!

It's time to start the first langpack update cycle for Xenial. The names
of the langpacks which have been copied to xenial-proposed are:

  language-pack-XX
  language-pack-XX-base
  language-pack-gnome-XX
  language-pack-gnome-XX-base

where 'XX' is the language code.

The steps involved are described at this wiki page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/LanguagePackUpdatesQA

Basically the translation teams are asked to

* install the updated langpacks from xenial-proposed
* perform the tests according to the wiki page (this is a "full
update", so the extra tests apply)
* add the test result for respective language to the Xenial table on
  the wiki page

The row for Swedish has already been inserted; just add your language in
the same manner.

Note: If you are not an Ubuntu Member, you need to be a member of
to be able to edit the wiki
page. You are encouraged to take this opportunity to join
~ubuntu-wiki-editors, but if you don't get edit access in time, please
post the test result for your language in a message here instead.

Please perform the tests and report the result by 13th of July 14:00
UTC. This is a valuable contribution the the quality assurance of Ubuntu.

I have the same problem. I see 5 untranslated strings which i cant change.
There is simply no Save and continue button but only for these 5
strings. I can change the other ones.
I tried rebooting as well as doing it by phone.--

Hi all!

We've been working hard on integrating LibreOfficeKit into the Ubuntu
Phone DocViewer app, so users can view common office files on their
phone. We have a few new strings that require translation, if you all
have some time.

Many thanks in advance!

Any info about the release date of this version?

p.s. I finished the Hungarian translation yesterday. :)

3. Ubuntu phone calendar app

2015-11-20 Thread Marcin Xc
Is it not somewhere in the system settings? I think the same string is also
used for showing a simple date for example in a scope. As I can remind myself
there was a bug where some of our Polish translators wanted badly to translate
names of months in the genitive
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-datetime/+bug/1005459) and
the problem was that the very same one string was used for many cases like. I
think we can have here the same problem. We're gonna correct from genitiv to
nominative and the problem may occur in the other place. So first I'd like to
raise the question from Krzysztof where to find it but secondly is it gonna
affect the whole Polish locale?

Hello,

where I can find strings responsible for name of month in that app
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-calendar-app ) - and no, in that app
there aren't any month-name related strings.
I'm asking because we must correct them. In Polish we see 'Stycznia'
insted of 'Stycze?' in month view.

Translation for Middle East languages / Xubuntu machines for refugees (goto)

2015-10-04 Thread Marcin Xc
Why xfce? Can't Debian, Mint or Mate do the job? They are all lightweith and
well translated cause they take ubuntu translations. I'm using Mate and the
lightest Debian. Both great, well developed systems with great support.

To whom it may concern,

I guess you know about the current refugee crisis in Europe.

Our club has set up a some machines with Xubuntu for a local refugee
camp to allow refugees getting their stuff done.

Most of the refugees speak only Arabic, Kurdish or Farsi(Persian).

Sadly XFCE is not that good translated and most of the XFCE elements are
still not working.

We need the translation urgently because the refugees can't use the
machines until they learned English or German or the translation got better.

We try to encourage local people speaking this languages (and English
speaking refugees) to help us translating this stuff.

My two questions are:
1) If we tell the people to use the official Site:
https://www.transifex.com/xfce/public/ - How long does it take until we
get the translation on out local machines?
2) If we decide to build our own .lo/.mo-files with the translated texts
- Can we submit them to the translation project?

With best regards

Re: Call for GPS Navigation translations (Costales)

2015-10-03 Thread Marcin Xc
Got a problem with two strings:
-"PH" - string 33wth is a PH?

and-" to take the %1" - string 140???

I also took the-"exit" s128/129 as highway exits, not for example parking exits
as well as"Stay straight on ramp" as "driving up" for exaple the hill/or on the
car park ~~ 'stay on the uphill'. I bet this is wrong.

My German brothers also have problems with some of these, so please provide
some more tips.

Hi all,

I would like to thank all translators who have helped (and are still
helping) to translate the upcoming update of Telegram app. You guys are
amazing and did fantastic job, thank you!

I have added a couple more strings to the project. I also removed one
unnecessary space from a string, as correctly pointed out by one translator
- which flipped that string back to 'untranslated', I apologize for that.

You can find the translation page here:
https://translations.launchpad.net/telegram-app

Thank you for your contribution and have a fantastic weekend!

Sincerely,
karni

How to translate two strings/ Software Center

2015-08-31 Thread Marcin Xc
Hi!
I translated them both two days ago but am not sure whether correct so if
anyone know the answer to this question it would be nice to hear from You.There
is however something stranger: "My role"
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu-rtm/14.09/+source/unity-scope-mediascanner/+pots/unity-scope-mediascanner/pl/+translate?show=new_suggestionsin
unity-scope-mediascanner package. Any suggestions? I have some ideas but can't
find it in the phone.
Last thing. What's gonna exactly happen with a Software Center? Are all these
thousands strings and months of work sentenced to death? There are hundreds of
developers that do not know what to do. Some of them do not understand the new
system and the difference beetwen a .deb package. I think it wouldn't be a bad
idea if someone explained us what's happening? David?

Cheers

Message-ID: 55b359fd.9000...@nicolas-delvaux.org

Hi everyone,

After reporting and investigating this bug[1], I noticed that GLib
translations are not installed by default on the phone.

This is a problem, because some applications, like the default
Settings app, use the GLib to generate strings which are displayed to
the user, and those are therefore not localized.

For now I only noticed the problem for file size units in the Setting
app, but it may affect other things.

So my question is: where should I report the issue or who should I poke
to make sure GLib translations will be included in the next OTA update?

Cheers,
Nicolas
