He told us that they are needed to indicate the following newline should be ignored in the code. He added they're not meant to be like \n, they're meant to enable the template files to be more readable by having long lines wrapped. The lines are merged by the parser when \ is followed by a newline, so it will be the same if you just don't use \ nor newline. So, we have to translate strings as a single line without "\". He ended saying that the issue with the program will definitely be addressed early in the lucid cycle. Checkbox has a CLI, so the strings should fit in a 80 col terminal (and checkbox-gtk has a really ugly apparence with those strings on a single line), that's why I guess this was a mistake. -- Bruno -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

Looking here: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~checkbox-dev/checkbox/trunk/annotate/head:/tests/audio.txt.in looks like the \ character is not a real \n character, but is probably used as a concatenation of some sort... -- Milo Casagrande -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

Hi, There are many strings with anti-slashes in this template, like this one : Pair a Bluetooth headset with your system. Then open the \ volume control application by right-clicking on the speaker \ icon in the panel and selecting "Sound Preferences". Select \ the "Input" tab and choose your Bluetooth device. Select the \ "Output" tab and choose your Bluetooth device. When you are done, \ click the Test button, then speak into the microphone. \ After a few seconds, your speech will be played back to you. New template of checkbox get imported
Hi everyone, There is a new templates of "System Testing" (checkbox) that have been imported to LP, due to the fix of the bug # 456115. There are several new strings to translate so it should be nice to have them done ASAP because the deadline is tomorrow. https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/checkbox/+pots/checkbox Happy translations!
