Re: [ubuntu-uk] I've started so I'll finish
The quiz night went very well, we got through the Ubuntu questions in short order, with prizes of baseball hats going to Martijn van de Streek and Alan Pope, and the Official Ubuntu Book going to Jessica Tallon. We then moved on to questions from the Geography, Science, Religion and SciFi categories. The bot is active all the time in #ubuntu-trivia feel free to pop in there any time and have a play. Well done to all who took part, I think it was rather good fun and something we could do again some time. It only takes a few seconds to change the channel at the router. There is no need to change anything at the PCs, they should automatically re-connect at the new frequency. But having said that, I think your other post may well be correct, as I am still connected. This is the first evening in weeks, that I have stayed connected all evening. For now, I think I will leave it alone, but I will have a look at changing frequency, assuming the problem returns. None are detected. Have you checked with your router switched off, in case it is hiding another network on the same channel? Also there are other devises that can use the same frequencies but do not show up (wireless CCTV cameras for example) so it would not do any harm to shift to another frequency as far away as possible from the current one just in case this is the issue. Obviously it is the paranormal effect of the combined massive brain power of the list. Acting together to consider the problem this super brain equivalent has warped the quantum level space time continuum around your router and (probably temporarily) fixed the problem. Eventually, but not always I totally lose the wireless connection (I get a cannot find wireless connection errors). Resetting the router usually, but not always, will recover the connection. Sometimes even when I am getting "connection timed out errors" I am being told that I still have a wireless connection at 100% with a 54Mb/s connection. Rebooting the eeepc doesn't help, but even if I have gone an entire evening without managing to salvage a connection, it is always back working fine the next morning. Now, this seems to point to a router error, but if I sit the eeepc and my MacBook Pro beside each other, the MacBook works flawlessly while the eeepc continues to play up. Some days I will have had the eeepc on all day, and other days I will switch it on for the first time around 4pm. This doesn't seem to make any7 difference to the timing, the issue still occurs between 4 and 6. I find the timing odd, but other than that, its seems to point to the wireless card in the eeepc having a fault. Does anyone have any suggestions, it all seems rather weird to me. Thanks, Graham Hi Graham, I've had a similar problem with my wireless connection getting slower and slower, losing connection, resetting etc. The same laptop when running Win 7 didn't have the problem, other laptops in the house didn't have the problem at the same time I was losing connection. After a bit of playing around, I ended up changing channels on the router and since then, no problems at all. I checked and found that there were a couple of wifi access points all on similar channels within range, so I just moved to a channel well away from anything. If you've got an android phone, there's an app called wifi analyser that will check for other networks and what channels they're on. Hope that helps Dave -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Re: [ubuntu-uk] I've started so I'll finish
I am getting the bot all set up and primed with questions, the mumble server is up and people are chatting on it, if you want to join in and check your sound is working that would be great, just install mumble from the software centre or with sudo apt-get install mumble from the command line. When you first run mumble it should give you a long list of servers to connect to, you want to add a new one and connect to mumble.libertus.co.uk Any problems shout for help in the #ubuntu-uk IRC channel quiz starts at 9PM. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Please help with research ...
Hello barry, tried reportint it just now. But launchpad doesn't show n easy way to reort bug at 10.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick but the report bug link sends me to wiki. Sad thing it was done on a work machine i shouldent have tried in the first place. So shouldnt tied again. Happend when trying to install nvidia drivers when i didn't have actual ethernet connection (companies secure network i guess). While that was riunning i playied around with how my screens looked: orientation, position,... I didn't play with resolution. And then screen look funny (one of the sceens was very pixelated the other didnt seem to refresh properly) and didn't show signs of recovering so i turned it off. That is what i would put un bug report if i could. Is it worth it since i can't (shouldn't) repeat it? -- Sent from my Nokia N900 - Original message - > On Thu, 2011-04-14 at 23:23 +0100, Andres wrote: > > Good point.
