I have a Thinkpad X31 that is non pae. It does have over 1GB RAM
however so does not tick all your boxes. Anyhow, I download the latest
lubuntu beta-1 and created a bootable USB. Unfortunately, this failed
to boot with the same pae error message that the standard ubuntu 12.04
beta-1 gives. I'll happily try again with another build

I came across the non pae issue yesterday when I tested the standard
12.04 beat-1 build. In the end, I got a working system by installing
via the non-pae mini.iso image.

Paul

According to Wikipedia [1], Celeron M and Pentium M processors don't
have NX support, which to all intents and purposes means that they
behave as if they had no PAE support. Those are quite recent and would
be found in laptops such as my ThinkPad T42 that has 2GB RAM but can't
boot the latest Ubuntu ISO. So I'll try with the Lubuntu one.

The above output shows a CPU that does have PAE support. If the command

It looks like I don't have any x86 machines which don't have PAE.
Looking at the processors which don't have it, I'd be surprised if many
of their motherboards supported as much as 128MB. My PII MMX laptop is
maxed out at 96MB.

For G3, could you try both, we only have one tester with a G3 and he has
not had any success as yet. ppc discussions are also carried out at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1918246 which will keep you up to
date with things that effect "General" ppc systems so as we can determine
which are lubuntu specific.

Lots of reading there.

I'll dig out the old iMac and see if it still works, and see if I can
read up on enough stuff to avoid totally embarrassing myself. The
machine I mentioned which I installed Lubuntu desktop on is choc full of
development stuff, and other experiments with Precise, so isn't probably
a good candidate for a testing machine.

Finally (to get my messages off this list) what is the address to send
emails to the mailing list? I use this list on Gmane - would there be
any objections to the Lubuntu-qa list being added to Gmane?

Try running this in a terminal

If it has the PAE flag it'll show up I believe.

Hi, any of the old systems would be good. The team at lubuntu are doggedly
committed to keep a flavour of the ubuntu family available for older
computers, not just the quad core 8GB RAM systems :)

So as we don't bore people on this mailing list, and in my usual futile
attempt to herd cats there is a mailing list for lubuntu qa testing via
https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-qa Do feel free to join the group.

I have a Pentium II machine which is available to run some tests on.
It has 256MB ram currently and I think I can remove some for tests.
I guess that it will naturally pick up non pae (?) install.

Initially it had/has Ubuntu 7.04 which was/is ok. And Windows 98.

I intend to use Lubuntu beta 1 alternate CD to install in place of the
Ubuntu - in fact into
dev/hda2 continuing its status as a dual boot PC because win98 is in
dev/hda1

I intend to take the RAM down to 128MB for the test install.
