HUD is not like GNOME Do. HUD has no "commands" as such.

HUD is a way to access menus quickly and easily. So if you were in
Firefox and wanted to look at your bookmarks you might do this (where
ALT is the HUD key):-

Alt, boo

Which would bring up a list of menu items which contain "boo"
including things in the "Bookmarks" menu.

If you were in Rhythmbox, and wanted to import some music into it, you
might do:-

Alt, im

Which would bring up "Music > Import File" amongst other items.

Cheers,

Indeed. That hard disk currently has an unused pre-installed version of
Windows Vista on it :-)

Please don't use that sort of language. You'll give me nightmares!

Sorry, I explained myself worng. I mean I don't listen to music on ubuntu so i
don't know what are the practical commands (menu commands) that can be used in
HUD.

HUD is just a keyboard way of accessing the menus instead of the mouse, so
no, there are no special commands.

[ubuntu-uk] HUD vs gnome do

2012-05-16 Thread Andres Muniz
I'm hoping to be able to ugrade a machine from the previous LTS to the new LTS
this weekend. I'll get the laptop and i hope to be able to meetup with the
person to give some guidance.

I have not had time to use HUD much but it seems similar to gnome do. Anything
special I should add? This particular user uses ubuntu for music and
web-browsing almost exclusively so any HUD commands you would recomend. --

The boot repair disc I have used, and it is close to miraculous IMHO is
http://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair-cd/home/Home/

I note it seems to use an Ubuntu Font, but I do not know if it uses
Ubuntu in fact.
I have used it for Windows and Ubuntu, including in I think fairly
complex multiboot PCs. I have only needed to use the basic offerings,
however if they are anything to go by the other stuff must be good.
The author posts too, I think, in Ubuntu forums. Development ongoing.

I recommend at least a try. Keep it around.

Sorry - just assumed you all knew about it. I got this:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntu-secured/files/

This is the 12.04 that includes boot-repair and there is also a smaller
iso that is a standalone boot-repair.

dmraid is broken again :(
But I was able to use a 12.10 live CD to recover some data from my wife's
colleague's Windows laptop whose hard disc had decided it didn't /really/ need
all those sectors in the NTFS $Bitmap :)

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Flossie 2012

2012-05-16 Thread Paula Graham
Hi Rebecca,

Sorry you can't make it - yes, all the talks will be video'd by the
University's system and we'll post a link on the website afterwards.
We'll also be tweeting and on IRC on the day @flossie #flossie and IRC
Freenode #fossbox.

I'm not sure if I'll make it to OggCamp, Liverpool is a bit of a
distance so I'll wait until Flossie is over before I commit. I'll
happily circulate info about it anyway.

Paula
