[ubuntu-uk] Thunderbird ....
Hi there I wonder if anyone might take the time to look at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181341 I think there is enough information in the bug report for someone to try to repeat it and confirm. It is likely to be very rare as it will only occur when a mail account is set up with a different SMTP server from the IMAC address. I don't want to post any more detail here but would happily give more information if you contact me off-list. Please let me know if I've mis-interpreted what is happening. Kind regards,Barry. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

IMAC can mean a model of Apple computer, correctly written iMac, or Install-Move-Add-Change (as block caps) - an IT service request. Do you have a valid Gmail account? In that account, is your Crosswire account set up as a valid send-from address? Yes - all that is in order and I do currently have it working as I have transferred my .thunderbird directory from one version to the next for a few years now. I have tried the same method with a virgin e-mail account I use, and this sets up perfectly well manually with the Google SMTP service. The problem seems to be unique to something to do with the Crosswire account that I use. I think you would be able to try it out using my user name on Crosswire which is bdrake and any password - try a random digit followed by an uppercase and four lowercase letters. From what I see, Thunderbird doesn't test the password but only requests the config details. It fails to get a configuration from Crosswire so you have to set up manually - the setttings are on screenshot 1. After that, I get the warning message with no checkbox. Most other accounts have the checkbox in place, which is why I think I've spotted a bug. What I've done so far is to re-name my .thunderbird directory and set up my gmail account so I have a valid SMTP setting, then manually input the Crosswire settings to try to create a Crosswire account. I know the Crosswire server runs a higher level of security than most, so this could be part of the answer. I had to put all the settings in manually right from the beginning. It is only since the 'Warning' screen came into the build that the problem occurred. Thanks for your help with this. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Nothing has worked... even reversing the off info so as to turn it on. Why would a kernel update have killed it, I ask myself. Time to look at other recent updates for a possible candidate methinks. On the other hand - is bum wiggling really that important [yes!]? ...and I have now got a desktop ready to hum along to instead of wiggling me bum before logging in ;) Annoying but not a great loss in the vast scheme of things. -- Cheers, Bill B.
