Oh, I forgot to add that I've made a start on the transition course on a
wiki page at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuAdverts/training Please
feel free to put stuff on it. Before we use the material, it will need
to be adapted for Natty, with a lot of screenshots (that was a
particular request from a Windows user who tried to follow the very
geeky Ubuntu manual). The section on OpenOffice will look the same as
will some of the other course elements. Hopefully there will be some
stuff you can use for worksheets.

Regards,Barry.

Haven't finalised venue or times yet but most likely 10-5.

Sorry, it's Borough-level funded so volunteer budget is £7 per day for bus fare
and lunch, best I can offer is a foam mattress on the floor of the box room . .
.

Genius! Exactly what's needed. What's the timescale? Want a hand? I came to the
meeting but 9pm on a Sat not my most alert time . . .

I'm quite interested and free that day. Please tell me the start and
end times. Might need to stay over depending on this.

Would your budget run to train fare and if needed hostel accommodation?
I would probably come anyhow and pay my own way.

This parallels the exercise I'm currently doing for Ubuntu Advertising.
We will be preparing a manual on Upgrading to Ubuntu and the Transition
process. migrating is scary, and so is change. Upgrade and transition
are positive words!

Kind regards, Barry.

[ubuntu-uk] Free Software for Non-Profits Day

2011-01-17 Thread gazz
I'm organising an open day on Feb 23 for groups/SEs who work with
non-profits in East London providing or advising on Free Software -
it'll consist of practical workshops and presentations. If anyone would
like to get involved or do an Ubuntu-related workshop or presentation
for non-techies, let me know :)

We'll be hiring a somewhat larger venue than usual and working with
Tower Hamlets and City non-profit umbrella orgs. Time is tight (we have
budget to use up before March) . . .

We're also putting together some helpsheets for small orgs who can't
afford tech support - I'll be compiling a list of topics shortly, but if
anyone thinks they would like to do some simple, illustrated Ubuntu
helpsheets on topics such as migrating from Windows, what kind of
software to use and how to install it etc etc - also let me know.

Thanks,
Paula
