Re: [ubuntu-uk] Rampant gnome-system-monitor!!
I have a system running a fresh install of 8.04, I haven't messed with it much but it doesn't seem to be having the same problem. Even so I've changed the interval to 30 seconds. Is that too much ? The system running 9.04 is in for a plug pulling session I think. I'll reinstall off the cd. I uninstalled gnome-system-manager and installed xosview which is a system monitor. The cpu use only hits about 50% now thanks to Xorg. But it is struggling to start up and I don't think I'll be able to cure it. Not clever enough. Thanks to Farran and Kevin for suggestions. Hi I'm still running 8.04; a little while after installing it I found I needed to increase the default setting for updating information about file systems (Edit -> Preferences -> File Systems -> Update interval in seconds). That fixed it for me. -- Kevin Safford -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

This does need to be dealt with - I think it should be a really light weight app because I mostly use it to check out why my system is running slow, and to kill other slow apps. A clunky program is obviously not ideal for this... I haven't actually upgraded yet, but I've never come across it using that much of the processor... so sorry, can't really help, just thought I'd add a bit :) === Farran Lee I'm only 16 :P -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
[ubuntu-uk] Rampant gnome-system-monitor!!
I've recently upgraded from 8.10 xubuntu to 9.04 xubuntu via synaptic package manager. I noticed the system was running slower than normal. System Monitor shows gnome-system-monitor is going from 8% cpu-100% cpu with no mention of Xorg. Top shows Xorg and gnome-system-monitor sharing the cpu use. The only unusual thing I can see in processes is that I have 14 xfdesktops all sleeping. I haven't tried to get rid of them yet, but I will when I've finished writing this. The only other thing I'm thinking of is the installation of cairo-dock. Could this have anything to do with it ? I don't usually upgrade because of the grief I've had in the past and it looks like I've done it again-or have I ? Here's hoping Ged. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
