I could not see any reference or instance of xchat - I am using Kubuntu at this point. Maybe xchat needs the gnome desktop. Anyway having actually noticed Konversation (IC) it was very easy to use indeed. It comes (in dapper) preset with freenode, and #kubuntu channel, and then adding #ubuntu-uk was also easy, so I dipped a toe into IRC, thanks. The conversation came about from a number of Members who were looking for ways to aid new users with some common tasks. We discussed screencasts and demo videos and the conversation as you can see from those interested was more about what exists , how well does it work , what will be needed to make it better and what do we do . It was Jono who added a clear spec of what should be achieved and what we might expect the process to do. I guess its the clarity of the specification that enabled the idea to Gel quickly. I nominaly wanted to call it Vodka ( dont ask ! ) but I was thinking about where JoKosher could fit in and wrote Vodkosher . So I guess I will take the blame for the pushing this project along. I can see Mr Morley has already begun the process of sampling what can and cant be done in hi Gaim Demo. I imagine the number of people who have irc at work (and can use it for ubuntu) must be fairly small. However I personally am unlikely to attend either. I think I'd rather concentrate on the Ubuntu QA and art work I'm doing currently, and my local LUG. I think that would be a more productive use of my time and would have greater effect. I don't think Ubuntu UK should have extending Jono's software as one of its goals - it just looks kinda strange. One thing I am interested in is working on our language support - although that doesn't have to be a specific Ubuntu thing and may work better as "Open Source - in your language" including projects like the welsh and bengali wikipedias. I would like to open this up a general team, so not a UK specific thing if possible. I think a number of people would be interested in developing screencasts, but if a small collection of UK Team people can kick off the project, that would be good. So if the project starts out small, develops some docs and guides and then we can open it out to a wider team. I recommend that those who want to help identify who they are, and start working on some guides on the Ubuntu wiki. Maybe at wiki.ubuntu.com/MakingScreencasts. > 3.
