[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 403339] [NEW] problem with key repeat, extra key up events
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This is a well known bug discussed elsewhere, the problem is although there are fixes available, none have been implemented. When a key is held down, the system should wait a bit then generate a string of key down events. The key up event should only be triggered when the key is actually physically released. Currently, key presses produce a chain of key down and key up events. Based on what I have read, the error is introduced in a sloppy fix of another problem, where some legitimate key up events were not occurring. This is only a serious problem for video games, as other software does not require exacting standards for input. It's with a Samsung Q35 with VGA Output. Before I used Gentoo and I didn't have any problems connecting the external monitor. I can still switch to TTY1 to reboot the system (restarting gdm doesn't help, afterwards the monitor still stays black). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385723] Re: no backlight support for laptop (hal depreciation regression)
The hal support for smartdimmer isn't going away anytime soon, so for these platforms it's perhaps possible to add back the gnome-power- manager support for it. That's why there is a gnome-power-manager task here. But I see no chance of devkit-power ever getting support for smartdimmer. The entire idea of smartdimmer is a hack, device drivers belong into kernel just as any other backlight interface the kernel offers. If X.org merges the smartdimmer logic in its xbacklight support, that's fine of course. This shouldn't affect KDE at all at the moment. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
I have two Ubuntu machines, one is running 8.04 LTS 64bit Server edition and the other is 9.04 64bit Desktop edition. I have installed VMware Server on the 8.04 server and I am accessing it with Firefox via HTTPS. I have the problem being discussed here and running setxkbmap restores my keyboard mapping so that the Ctrl and Alt keys start working again both in the Desktop and Server windows. My guess is that this problem is related to VMware setting the keyboard mapping on the host, to match the mapping on the virtual machine. Problem could be, I have a 105 key USB keyboard on my workstation but vmware has a 102/3 key virtual keyboard attached to the virtual machines (I have 1 Redhat and 1 Windows 2003 server running as virtual machines) This could also be related to how WMvare grabs the keyboard. I don't know.. Fact is I don't think this is a OS problem at all. I belive the OS is behaving as it should.- -- Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195982 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400920] Re: [i945] Displacement between Blender render window and content.
When you use the xorg-edgers PPA, it's usually best get all the packages since there may be dependencies. For example, some fixes may need updated libdrm2 and libdrm-intel1. Before, the way to test this with a LiveCD was to use the script that automatically upgrades all packages (see Testing with a live CD/media on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge). However, now it is even easier as there is a LiveCD image with the packages already installed: http://sarvatt.com/downloads/xorg-edgers-0.16-i386.iso (it is currently a little behind, being updated July 7th). I also checked the blender website, and it seems they don't care too much about intel graphics. On the downloads page (http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/) it says: Users with Intel on-board graphics: some graphics operations (menus or border select) don't show due to driver bug. Also, all developers have Nvidia or ATI graphics. http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Supported_platforms -- [i945] Displacement between Blender render window and content. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400920 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366224] Re: [M7-LW] Rendering artifact on text in firefox and gedit
I can not only confirm this (IBM (now Lenovo) ThinkPad T60 with a Radeon Mobility x1400), but say that it's not restricted to any one program, theme, or even desktop environment. Firefox, Thunderbird, GIMP, Nautilus, and even the desktop environment itself in certain circumstances (dragging out a selection box, for example) all render minor artifacts. KDE seems to be affected worse than GNOME - check boxes, radio buttons, and push buttons can be partially hidden behind artifacts. Sometimes an entire text box (a URL bar or the like) or row of icons will be completely obscured by garbage until forced to refresh (selecting, typing, etc.). Changing AccelMethod in xorg.conf from EXA to XAA seems to fix the issue; however, performance drops dramatically. Simple tasks like opening the main menu or maximizing a window can take a second or two. It is a fix, but the performance loss makes it an unacceptable one - X just uses way too much CPU with XAA to do mundane tasks. -- [M7-LW] Rendering artifact on text in firefox and gedit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366224 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 370292] Re: [i855] X freezing on intel 855GM
Incorrect. Not fixed as of 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu1 In addition, I can't even seem to install the older 2.4 version over the top anymore, so now I'm stuck with this buggy driver. Very frustrating when I'm trying to work. Bryce, is it at all possible to put the old intel driver in the official ubuntu repos? Perhaps call it xserver-xorg-video-intel-old or something. This is getting ridiculous. This driver should never have been released as stable without testing on all hardware it supposedly supports, and if it was released as unstable, it should have never found it's way into ubuntu without an alternative. -- [i855] X freezing on intel 855GM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370292 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362919] Re: [Q45] Display corruption on Intel chipset
After I saw the messages from Bryce Harrington just above, I was reluctant to download a whole new .iso and install the OS from scratch, having done a fresh install only the previous week. Instead, I followed instructions on updating *just* the Intel graphics driver at http://webupd8.blogspot.com/2009/06/new-ubuntu-intel-graphics- drivers.html (those instructions also cite Bryce) and have been test- driving for over a week now. The graphical corruption has completely vanished, and I have had no problems or side-effects. -- [Q45] Display corruption on Intel chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362919 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
