[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348450] Re: [X1650] freeze on opengl games (bzflag, alienarena)

2009-08-18 Thread Pauli
To fix most of freezes it is enough to use xorg-edgers packages. But
there is still sometimes small chance for GPU hang. Now I did compile
vanila kernel for jaunty to get KMS where remaining hang problems have
disappeared.

So non-kms Karmic: Small chance for hang. Reproducing in xmoto level
"Green hill zone act 3". There is a small pit after spring where it
hangs most of times.

kms-karmic: None so far found but testing has been too little to rule
out completely.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 360770] Re: evtouch: Can't calibrate LG Flatron L1510SF

2009-08-18 Thread Ben Andersen
Hello Kiko,

I've tried the solution without luck on Ubuntu 9.04. Have you tried it
on 9.04?

How should I find the values for the edges? With the calibration program
or some other way?

I think I have the same model monitor as you? It's a LG Flatron L1510SF
15", Product code (on the back): L1510SFN.AEUOEP, Manufactured: June
2008, FCC ID: BEJL1510BFN.

Thanks,
Ben

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412907] Re: X crashes and system is only responsive via sys-req on keyboard

2009-08-18 Thread Liam O'Reilly
Here is the dmesg report that I promised above (a little late, but here
now). I found when trying to cause this problem that, that I simply
cannot reproduce the problem. It happens at least once a day, but I have
no idea what triggers it. It seems to happen a lot when I interface with
Firefox, but this could be coincidence as I use Firefox often.

I will now try to do my daily work on a Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit Alpha 4 live
cd and see if the bug is triggered, If so I will try to get a backtrace
etc (using instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing).

Hi ppl.
I' m experiencing the same issue aswell: Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit build on a HP
Pavilion DV5-1203em with this card, I just get a flashing screen with some
screwed Ubuntu logos. As being reported by someone, Mandriva Linux doesn' t
have problems with this driver. It' s really annoying.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408432] Re: [i915] 'xrandr' with no arguments garbles screen

2009-08-18 Thread Dag Asheim
I will try this with another external monitor later, but I'll provide
what I can. I booted in UMS mode by giving the option i915.modeset=0 on
the kernel command line - this gives an errror message about an unknown
option, but seems to work. I can't reproduce the bug under UMS, so this
is a functioning work-around. The xorg.log-file is attached (also with
Option "ModeDebug" "yes" set in the xorg.conf).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384316] Re: "radeon" driver now depends on "ati" to be autoloaded, previously it did not

2009-08-18 Thread Max Bowsher
The use case is a desire to uninstall the old -r128 and -mach64 drivers
because they are not used on my system. This removes the -ati driver too
by dependencies.

So yes, it's a situation that would be encountered only when a user was
exercising some fairly fine-grained package selection. But, it did work
fine in the past.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 310864] Re: [RS690M X1200] (Needs 55fbdbae) screen randomly blanks for short times

2009-08-18 Thread David Kühling
After upgrading to Jaunty (9.04), the problem persists. Even more
troubling now, since starting with Jaunty my graphic chip (RS690M) is
not supported by the proprietary fglrx driver any more :(

Current workaround: after logging in, switch once to the console screen
(Ctrl+Alt+F1), then switch back to the Xserver (Ctrl+Alt+F7). After
that procedure, the blanking is gone, but has to be repeated whenever I
log in.

The client doesn't have a hard disk and only 512 MB of RAM, installing
something via USB is quite exhausting...

quickly test this driver. The best I can think of is to follow these
instructions to install the test package and rebuild your LTSP chroot:

$ sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386

Add the repository, then update and upgrade:

# echo "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/q-funk/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main" >>
/etc/apt/sources.list

# apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get clean

# exit

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398968] Re: [i945GM] X server gets stuck in loop waiting on DRI, reads mouse events but ignores all socket I/O hence appears frozen

2009-08-18 Thread Jamie Lokier
I did the debugging work because I thought you (or upstream) might find
it useful. Plenty of lockups have been reported but not many where it's
possible to observe a faulty kernel or hardware state in detail.

Specifically, because of the clues in how the kernel or hardware state
was broken and X server restart didn't recover it, I though you or
upstream developers would find it useful.

But it appears that was a mistake since you weren't interested in
analysis, just whether running Karmic for a month locks up less often.
(Running it for a day would not be enough).

In other words, if I'd just reported it locking up, your response would
have been exactly the same: try Karmic, see if it's more reliable.

I'm not sure what response you were waiting for, other than 'I ran
Karmic and don't get (as many) lockups'.

Instead I turned off DRI entirely (on Jaunty), and I get far fewer
lockups but have still had one, unfortunately. Presumably the one I had
subsequently was a different kind, as the one in this report depends on
DRI.

==> So, I have a question: If I do experience lockups when I eventually
move to Karmic and re-enable DRI, and it's not a complete system freeze
so possible to debug like in this report, should I spend the hours doing
that or is it not useful here?

Thanks!

Btw, why is the new status Invalid and not Closed? This report may be
useful to someone else who comes searching in future, especially if the
problem reappears, and Invalid bugs tend to be skipped over when
searching.

** Description changed:

Ubuntu 9.04, MacBook early 2008 (Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
  Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03))

  1. Install Hedgewars if it is not installed already.
- 2. Launch Hedgewars.
- 3. Set games to play full-screen, if this is not set already (Settings ->
Audio/Graphic Options -> "Fullscreen").
- 4. Start a new game.
- 5. Press the keyboard key to increase or decrease brightness.
+ 2. Put a System Monitor applet in your gnome-panel.
+ 3. Launch Hedgewars.
+ 4. Set games to play full-screen, if this is not set already (Settings ->
Audio/Graphic Options -> "Fullscreen").
+ 5. Start a new game.
+ 6. Press the keyboard key to increase or decrease brightness.

- What happens: The area where the bubble should appear flickers nastily, and
other areas of the screen flicker too.
- What should happen: The bubble appears nicely on top of the game.
+ What happens:
+ 5. The area on top of the System Monitor applet flickers nastily.
+ 6. The area where the notification bubbles would appear flickers nastily.
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30470303/out.ogv
+
+ What should happen:
+ 5. There is no sign of the System Monitor applet, because the game is
reliably painting over top of it.
+ 6. The notification bubbles appear nicely on top of the game.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional

2009-08-18 Thread myrtille
Hi,

same is true for me. I get random freezes where only the mouse can be
moved, but nothing can be clicked. I have an Acer travelmate 6492 with
the same graphics controller Intel GMA X3100 (GM965 chipset)

I also tried the different X-versions and updated to the new 2.6.30
kernel, However I still get freezes and right now the default jaunty
kernel works better for me than the new one. (also see here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/415132 )

I set up an SSH server on the freezing machine, so if you need any logs
from a frozen machine, I'll be happy to provide, after the next random
freeze.

I tried using the settings for exa, uxa in xorg.conf and deleting
xorg.conf completely and got freezes with every setting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G

2009-08-18 Thread Rebug

For your information.
Dell2400D Intel-845G
Have installed Xubuntu kk-9.10 live-cd build 20090815
Smooth install, auto-login works, hardware driver load is slow therefore
boot-time exceeds 4 minutes. This build comes with kernel 2.6.31-5 installed
and runs fine except for xorg which draws high cpu power while running
applications. The OS was updated with kernel 2.6.31-6. When running this kernel
xorg draws 42% cpu power with no application running "clean desktop except for
terminal running top". Cpu use hits 100% when one program is started and it
eventually becomes unresponsive. I am using Xubuntu with this post, thanks.

2009-08-18 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Andreas,

If these patches get merged into the mainline 2.6.31 kernel, Karmic will
automatically have them once we rebase. If however, these do not get
upstream in time for 2.6.31, we'll need to consider backporting to
Karmic. We'll try to keep an eye on this either way. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 369042] Re: [HD 2600/HD 3670/HD 4650/ Others?] fglrx + Kwin with OpenGL desktop effects = failed resume

2009-08-18 Thread tmokeefe
Some good news on this bug finally. I downloaded and installed ATI
Catalyst 9.8 last night:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.5&lang=English

I was finally able to suspend/resume my machine w/ OpenGL compositing
enabled. This was after executing the following commands (to rewrite
xorg.conf):

cd /etc/
sudo rm xorg.conf
sudo aticonfig --initial

I have even upgraded to KDE 4.3 (kde4-config --version) and Linux
2.6.28-15-generic (uname -r) without any ill effects.

Again, I am running Kubuntu 9.04 64-bit on a Dell Studio XPS 16 with an
embedded ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670. I hope this post helps someone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412907] Re: X crashes and system is only responsive via sys-req on keyboard

2009-08-18 Thread MrAuer
OK..
I have now tried running apport, but so far it has not generated any reports,
even thou X has crashed twice. First time hard lock, had to power down. Second
time, dropped to login prompt again, but still no report..

Completely random still, like with Liam O'Reilly. I have found a few
other people (on IRC) who have the same crash behaviour also on Eee pc
901, with the intel 945g chipset - one of these people used Debian
(testing I think) instead of Ubuntu. They have had that present also at
least during Jaunty cycle, I had these crashes happen also on Intrepid
(reason I upgraded).

I downloaded Karmic alpha 4, I will put it on a USB stick today and try
it out. Alpha 3 crashed constantly and had issues with display going
dark for a couple seconds at time, I will see if those have been
resolved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413791] Re: ATI fglrx driver appears to cause freeze on boot

2009-08-18 Thread mark
I guess this can be removed - I finally found some info on this.

As I guess everyone knows, fglrx doesn't yet support the latest kernel.
9.8 just came out, but it still doesn't support 2.6.31 just up to
2.6.30.

Worse, the open source drivers don't support r600-r700 - so I'm out in
the cold with 3d and my ATI card. Bummer.

2009-08-18 Thread Eric Hickman
I dont belive this bug belongs to xserver-xorg-video-nv as the problem
seems to be that the proprietary nvidia kernel module isnt being
loaded...? see the Xorg.1.log

xorg.conf shows the nv driver, i Belive because that was the driver that
was in use when i used ubuntu-bug, I know its confusing, I can attempt
to refile the bug if its needed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 325543] Re: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600M GT: KDE does not always logout/shutdown/reboot successfully

2009-08-18 Thread kbit
I have probably the same problem

with nvidia 180.44
using KDE 4.3.00
on Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04)
on linux-2.6.28-15-generic.

When I choose logout, shutdown or reboot from the K menu, nothing really
happens, only one icon disappears from the system tray (hp-systray) and
plasma does not react to mouseovers anymore (starters on the desktop are
not highlighted onMouseOver); but clicking one of the starters starts
the application as usual.

I can shutdown using Konsole with "sudo shutdown -P now" and reboot with "sudo
reboot".
To just log out, I need to zap X (ctrl alt backspace) or go to another tty and
"sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart".

Please tell me if you need more information from me!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413295] [NEW] open office doesn't refresh text

2009-08-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have problems with texts, who are longer than 2 pages. When I continue
to write new text in these documents, open office frequently does not
refresh the newly written text. This means, that "old" and "new" text is
mixed up. When I click on Extras-refresh, everything is fine. Then I add
new text and the same problem occurs again. Is there something like
automatically refreshing for new text included in open office?
