[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363672] Re: Kubuntu Jaunty 64 bits hangups often with nvidia-glx-180

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413293] Re: [gm45] dual screen not complete
Yes, it fixes the main problem! But, there are some bugs still... My VGA Panel is 1280x1024 and my Notebook LCD Panel is 1440x900. In Display Preferences: 1. I cannot place the Notebook Panel in exactly the right position in relation to the VGA. This appears to be because the icon size of one or other (probably the Notebook Panel) is not exactly right. So, the cursor jumps vertical position when moving between to the two displays - not positioning solves this. 2. If I reduce the Notebook Panel resolution to 1280x1024, it gets a black border at the top. (Not that I want to do that - I'm just reporting it to you). It seems to me the problem is the icon size for moving the displays around - they are not in proportion to the resolution that's specified for the corresponding displays. Thanks! I hope the above helps. -- [gm45] dual screen not complete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413293 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410305] Re: screen flickering on dell laptop
It seems to have been a problem with the in-kernel part of the driver and KMS, fixed in the latest kernel update (2.6.31-6): * I spotted some flicker in usplash and text console as well * booting without KMS removed it * it is gone, even with KMS enabled in 2.6.31-6 (and back if booting again on 2.6.31-5, it was not fixed by one of the other updates) For the record, here is a short answer to your question: The symptoms are similar to that of bug #399829: many redraw trigger screen flickering, for exemple moving windows of the gdm animations, even text scrolling in a terminal the only difference is that changing the resolution did not work arround it for me, otherwise, the flickering looked like the one in the video linked in bug #399829. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- screen flickering on dell laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415692] [NEW] I cannot disable touchpad tapping because there is no option on the mouse preferences dalog and gsynaptics will not run.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: xfree86-driver-synaptics I am unable to disable tapping on my touchpad. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378482] Re: [GM45] Dual screen is not properly configured, size and refresh problem (UXA bug)
I have the same problem (see: attachment), my lspci command outputs 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07). I search the Internet and found (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Xorg_RandR_1.2#the_Virtual_screen) that my frame buffer can not exceed 2048x2048. So these steps I tried to confirm this: Note: The attached screen-shot is made with Laptop on 1280x800 and Acer on 1024x768 with Compiz enabled. 1. I started with Compiz disabled (i assume this disabled DRI). All problems disappear except the problem of having my cursor disappear when i place it at the bottom of my Acer monitor. This can be seen as a black bar right from the workspace switcher (see: screen-shot). 2. Next i go to the Visual Effects en switch the radio button from None to Normal. This causes the following error: Desktop effects could not be enabled. The radio button jumps back to None. 3. I use Display Preferences (xrandr gui) to set Acer to 640x480. After i found my cursor somewhere in the borders of my Acer screen I enabled Compiz by repeating step 2. Only this time Compiz successfully enabled. The difference between this and the previous step is that in the previous step the frame buffer was exceeded horizontal with (1280+1024)-2048 = 256 pixels (which matches exact with my screen dump). 4. Now when I set the Acer screen back to 1024x768 I get the problem described here and in my screen-shot. To fix this I disabled Compiz with the Visual Effects GUI. If u want u can jump to step 1 to repeat the procedure again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415822] [NEW] [i945GM][xorg-edgers][2.6.31-020631rc6-generic] Unable to set virtual size greater than 2048x2048
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Dell Latitude D820 in docking station with one DVI and one VGA monitor connected. Before I upgraded to Jaunty from Gutsy, setting virtual to greater than 2048x2048 would automatically disable DRI. After upgrading to Jaunty, performance both with and without DRI was terrible. Tried xorg-edgers PPA and unofficial mainline kernel which fixed performance issues. With xorg-edgers PPA and the unofficial mainline kernel (v2.6.30.3), and virtual set greater than 2048x2048, xorg would exit when started, saying that DRI could not be enabled. Upgraded to the v2.6.31-rc6 kernel. According to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.31-rc6/CHANGES it contains the fix drm/i915: Allow frame buffers up to 4096x4096 on 915/945 class hardware. With this kernel, xorg starts when virtual is set greater than 2048x2048, but second screen is not enabled. Running xrandr (with virtual set to either 3360x1050 or 4096x4096 in xorg.conf): xrandr --output LVDS --off # must be done separately xrandr --output TMDS-1 --mode 1680x1050 --output VGA --mode 1680x1050 --right-of TMDS-1 xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 2048x2048 (desired size 3360x1050) xrandr --fb 3360x1050 --output TMDS-1 --mode 1680x1050 --output VGA --mode 1680x1050 --right-of TMDS-1 xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 2048x2048 (desired size 3360x1050) I'm also explicitly disabling DRI and DRI2 in xorg.conf. António, for measuring power draw on a notebook try 'powertop' or right click the power icon in the notification area for 'Power History'. 'cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state' could work too, but the path might have changed since I last used it (can't test). Desktops usually require an external meter to measure the power draw. I would do some testing too but I'm on dial-up currently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415876] [NEW] Hue setting not retained for watching videos
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings In Karmic, I seem to be having troubles with the Hue setting. At first it was defaulted to -1000 (rather than Jaunty's 0), resulting in blue- green people when watching videos. When I manually reset it to 0 the video looks fine, however this setting doesn't seem to be saving properly. If I restart and open a video, I'll get blue people again, however as soon as I reopen nvidia-settings (even while the video is playing), it will remember the correct setting of 0 and fix it. ** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Hue setting not retained for watching videos https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379157] Re: [i945G] Samsung TV not detected on VGA output (no screens)
With a LiveCD you lose all changes when you reboot, but you don't need to reboot to activate the changes[*]. It is sufficient to restart X, and you can do that by simply logging out (on a LiveCD you will be logged in again after 10 seconds IIRC). Alternatively, you can switch to a VT and do a `/etc/init.d/gdm restart`. The easiest way to get the log files when your computer has a black screen is to ssh in from another computer. For that you need the computer to be connected via cable instead of wireless and you will need to `apt-get install openssh-server` and since it is a LiveCD you will need to set a password for the ubuntu user to be able to log in with `passwd`, or alternatively for the root user with `sudo passwd root`. If you don't have another computer available to ssh from, you can also save the Xorg.0.log to a USB key. Before you restart X, insert the USB key and see where it gets mounted (should be /media/something). Then from a VT before you restart X, write `sleep 60; cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /media/something` where you replace something with the appropriate directory. That should wait 60 seconds and copy the log file. If you restart X during those 60 seconds, a new Xorg.0.log will be created and despite your black screen you will get the log file on your USB stick. [*] I remember you had some problems earlier that mysteriously went away when rebooting, but hopefully those won't show up now. -- [i945G] Samsung TV not detected on VGA output (no screens) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379157 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Check bios memory settings.. Adding some debugging code to the driver revealed that in via_video.c:DecideOverlaySupport width and height (gotten from pBIOSInfo-Panel-NativeMode-Width and -Height) were 0, causing that function to return FALSE by default. After noticing via_mode.c:VIAGetPanelSize is the only function that sets NativeModeIndex without also setting NativeMode I came up with a horrible (duplicating a table) patch that makes xv work (attached). (VIAGetPanelSize also contains a cosmetic bug: the PanelSizeString array (used only for logging) is out of sync with the defines in via_bios.h, so for my 1024x768 it logs Using panel at 800x600. after correctly detecting a VIA_PANEL10X7. A slightly better patch could fix that log message, using the same table needed to set NativeMode-Width and -Height.) If you need me to test something feel free to poke me on irc instead of here for faster response times (I joined #ubuntu-x). ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xv does not work (badalloc, using the x-updates ppa) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415964 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi there, i also have this lappie, i checked the screen brightness and the problem is even bigger... the first thing is - yes - the cde events are inivible by xev, but after i do: dmesg | tail i can see them: [ 2690.098867] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes 6a keycode' to make it known. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416001] [NEW] Notification and similar dialogs are displaying corrupted after update on Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Ubuntu release: Karmic 9.10 xserver-xorg-video-ati version installed: 1:6.12.99+git20090629.f39cafc5-0ubuntu6 After updating last night, notification dialogs are showing up corrupted (white with lines around it). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415132] [NEW] GM965/GL960 intel freeze with kde desktop effects
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, I'm using jaunty with kde 4.2.4, the new kernel (2.6.30-020630rc6) and the updated x-server. The xserver-xorg.video-intel package has version :2:2.8.0+git20090814.926c7e7d-0ubuntu0sarvatt~jaunty For the last 3 weeks my PC completely freezes (no movement in the animations, mouse can't be moved, does not react to any keyboard-combination), whenever I try to use desktop effects. I followed instructions on gaining info for intel freezes here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze and will attach the output. However the instructions are for gnome and there was no kdm folder, so I have no kdm.log. The freeze for the dri_debug info was provoked by switching through windows. The PC does not freeze on desktop-effects when I use the 2.6.28-14 kernel. I also get random freezes with both kernels on that machine, which look a lot like the bug reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/345119 If you need any further information please let me know. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 401055] Re: [MASTER] Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'firefox-3.5' received an X Window System error (BadWindow)
I've gone ahead and forwarded this upstream as an X bug, however really some additional analysis ought to be done. I don't think there's enough info on the upstream bug for us to be able to expect a response, but who knows, worth a shot I guess. It would be helpful to narrow this to a test code that reproduces the problem. *Maybe* since firefox is so widely available they'll look at it, but most typically with these kinds of bugs upstream wants to see a concise test case. It is also almost always a good idea to run the client app using xtrace in order to study the client-server interaction and see exactly what sequence of commands the client is sending to the server. Especially in this case I think it's extraordinarily likely upstream is going to ask for this to be done. ** Also affects: libx11 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #23416 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23416 ** Also affects: xorg-server via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23416 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Changed in: libx11 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: libx11 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- [MASTER] Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'firefox-3.5' received an X Window System error (BadWindow) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libx11 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 341681] Re: [HD 3650] Startup failure Idle timed out, resetting engine...
I have got fglrx to work on Ubuntu/Jaunty with the latest driver from ati (ati-driver-installer-9-8-x86.x86_64.run). Here is the installation guide I used: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Jaunty_Installation_Guide#Installing_the_drivers_manually It is not perfect, but at least it works. I experienced performance problems with compiz, described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/351186 -- [HD 3650] Startup failure Idle timed out, resetting engine... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 401055] Re: [MASTER] Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'firefox-3.5' received an X Window System error (BadWindow)
Info on using xtrace here -- http://xtrace.alioth.debian.org/ I've roughed up a page on debugging client XErrors since these seems to be a pretty common class of error, and we didn't seem to already have a good knowledgebase for people on how to deal with them: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/XError It would be majorly helpful if you guys could flesh that out further since you all probably have more experience with the tricks of debugging these kinds of issues. -- [MASTER] Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'firefox-3.5' received an X Window System error (BadWindow) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libx11 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416132] [NEW] black screen with intel 855GM/Xorg/HDMI
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Ubuntu 9.04 xorg: 1:7.4~5ubuntu18 xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9.4 connected monitor is _only_ a Epson TW3800 projector via DVI2HDMI cable (native resolution: 1920x1050) With this hardware configuration (about since ubuntu 8.1.0) several problems occur: -the standard text mode 640x...@90hz is instable, the projector is not able to show this low resolution stable, screen goes blank and is only visible shortly -no higher console/graphics mode is automatically choosen -not even the safe graphics mode of the installation cd with xforcevesa results in a visible screen -the problem is related to only 2 modelines get detected for this monitor device (640x480 and 1920x1050) With an older Xorg (X Window System Version 1.3.0, my current workaround) i was able to get a working xorg.conf. However, with an even older server/driver/VGA many more modelines where detected by the driver for this monitor-device. WIthout an xorg.conf i also get only a black screen for this setup (need to force to enable TDMI in favor of VGA for pipe A/B). further problems with this configuration: -as soon as the xrandtray tool is started (no action triggered), the screen get empty/background colored and a restart of the XServer is the only way to get the display back -as soon as any resolution/mode switch by any program is triggered the screen gets either black or background-colored and one needs to restart the XServer to get the image back The expected behavior is: -use the highest possible text mode and/or another available resolution that can be safely displayed -auto detection if only tje TDMI-pipe (HDMI or DVI) is connected and correct setup of xorg(.conf) -xrandr-tray should not be able to scramble the display permanently for the standard use-cases -switching of resolutions should work -detection of all available mode-lines ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- black screen with intel 855GM/Xorg/HDMI https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
