[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419264] Re: Uses 100% CPU with Intel drivers
After downgrading libdrm and mesa to the versions in the x-retro PPA, the issue seems to have gone away. Previously, compiz would freeze reliably after 5 min usage. With the x-retro ppa I've been running now 20 minutes with nary a problem. ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu Karmic) Status: New = Confirmed -- Uses 100% CPU with latest mesa/libdrm update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419264] Re: Uses 100% CPU with Intel drivers
I'm gathering that either there's a bug in mesa or libdrm, or else compiz needs to be updated in order to work properly with the new mesa. I've reviewed the list of changes subsequent to the snapshot date for both our libdrm and mesa, and do not see an obvious commit that fixes this issue. ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu Karmic) Assignee: (unassigned) = Bryce Harrington (bryceharrington) ** Summary changed: - Uses 100% CPU with Intel drivers + Uses 100% CPU with latest mesa/libdrm update -- Uses 100% CPU with latest mesa/libdrm update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I think you both got it wrong: xkeyboard-config groups layouts by country. In our country there are many ethnic groups. We should make their life easier and help them write in Romanian and their native language without much effort. What I think is wrong is the number of keyboard layouts for 24.000 Tatars - one for every 6.000, and if we consider Linux users are 1% of computer users and all consider that all Romanians use a computer (which is evidently false) we have one keyboard layout for less than 60 Tatars. I think we can accommodate all 240 Linux using Tatars in one single keyboard layout. -- Too many crimean tatar keyboard layouts added for Romania https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 261573] Re: Intrepid: No AltGr key defined - e.g. no @ symbol with MacBook Pro
Ok, just tested it with Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 2 live Desktop. You can switch the keyboard to Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro (Intl) without getting any error message. What a progress after a year! However, there is still no @ sign by default. Also, I did not manage to configure it by defining a Third Level Chooser. Seems that Ubuntu does not even know the key that IMHO might well be used as the AltGr key and which I called the strange key (see above). Btw. someone edited my original posting typing some workaround into my text. I do not consider this to be useful. @ Bryce Harrington: Personally, I do not think that Ubuntu users should be forced to open additional accounts and to make things even more complicated by having to post bugs upstream. -- Intrepid: No AltGr key defined - e.g. no @ symbol with MacBook Pro https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/261573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 420600] Re: xorg eats up all my CPU
Thanks for answering. My card is intel x4500hd and my xorg.conf is the default one (I'm not on linux now) What's interesting is that even the live session from the daily live cd has the same problem, while alpha 4 has not. Another interesting thing is that xorg is not the only process which eats cpu, but almost every process (with a non trivial logic of course) are using lots of cpu. What I'm doing now is this: test yesterday daily live cd and see if it works, then I will post the packages that ubuntu wants to upgrade. -- xorg eats up all my CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420600 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 420803] [NEW] FFe for updating -ati/mesa/libdrm git snapshots until their individual releases
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati [Request] Standing FFe exceptions in Karmic for -ati until 6.13.0 (or 7.0.0?) release, libdrm until 2.4.13 (or 2.5.0?), and mesa until 7.6.0 in order to gain Kernel Mode-setting for ATI graphics hardware. [Rationale] KMS on -ati is a major goal for the Karmic release, yet KMS is not yet available in an official release. We have been carrying git snapshots of -ati, libdrm, and mesa in order to follow the current development, to enable testing and QA to proceed in parallel with upstream's work, so when a release does come we can integrate it with minimal worry. [Testing] In addition to validating updates on my own hardware, all git snapshot updates to Karmic are done only after the given snapshot has had some testing time in the xorg-edgers PPA repository. A number of users run this ppa and file bug reports when they spot problems, so this will help us avoid most critical issues. As well, by waiting a few days this lets us check the current git master to see if upstream put in important bug fixes. ** Affects: libdrm (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Affects: libdrm (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libdrm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - FFe for updating -ati/mesa/libdrm git snapshots until release + FFe for updating -ati/mesa/libdrm git snapshots until their individual releases ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: libdrm (Ubuntu Karmic) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- FFe for updating -ati/mesa/libdrm git snapshots until their individual releases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 420803] Re: FFe for updating -ati/mesa/libdrm git snapshots until their individual releases
Note that while we anticipate these three components will release prior to FinalFreeze (Oct 15th), none of these three projects publish roadmaps so it's difficult to project exactly when they'll release. Mesa usually publishes release-candidates for a few weeks prior to release, but has not begun doing this. The other two projects have not traditionally produced RCs. Possible contingencies we're keeping and will begin evaluating as options starting at BetaFreeze for still-unreleased components are: * Lock down on a particular git snapshot that pre-Beta testing has shown to be reasonably stable * Revert back to prior stable release version * Update the git snapshot during the week between Beta and FinalFreeze -- FFe for updating -ati/mesa/libdrm git snapshots until their individual releases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This was typically triggered by running Kopete while using Compiz or Beryl. - * Added support for configuring the GPU PowerMizer Mode on GeForce 8 or later GPUs with multiple performance levels via nvidia-settings and NV-CONTROL. - * Fixed a bug in VDPAU that could cause visible corruption when decoding H.264 clips with alternating frame/field coded reference pictures, and a video surface is concurrently removed from the DPB, and re-used as the decode target, in a single decode operation. This affected all GPUs supported by VDPAU. - * Fixed a bug in VDPAU that could cause visible corruption near the bottom edge of the picture when decoding VC-1 advanced profile clips whose heights are not exact multiples of 16 pixels, on G98 and MCP7x (IGP) GPUs. - * Enhanced VDPAU to better handle corrupt/invalid H.264 bitstreams on G84, G86, G92, G94, G96, or GT200 GPUs. This should prevent most cases of display preemption that are caused by bitstream errors. - * Fixed an X server crash when using the VDPAU overlay-based presentation queue and VT-switching away from the X server. - * Enhanced VDPAU's detection of the GPU's video decode capabilities. - * Fixed a bug in VDPAU that could cause ghosting/flashing issues when decoding H.264 clips, in certain full DPB scenarios, on G98 and MCP7x. - * Fixed VDPAU to detect an attempt to destroy the VdpDevice object when other device-owned objects still exist. VDPAU now triggers display preemption, and returns an error, when this occurs. - * Enhanced VDPAU's error handling and resource management in presentation queue creation and operation. This change correctly propagates all errors back to the client application, and avoids some resource leaks. + * Added code to reject screen modes based on available DisplayPort link bandwidth. Fixes display corruption caused by allowing high bandwidth modes on display devices that can't handle them, such as certain DisplayPort-to-VGA adapters that only support 2 DisplayPort lanes. + * Fixed an initialization problem on some mobile GPUs. + * Worked around X.Org X server Bugzilla bug #22804. This bug allows X clients to send invalid XGetImage requests to the hardware, leading to screen corruption or hangs. This was most commonly triggered by running JDownloader in KDE 4. + * Fixed a crash in nvidia-settings displaying GPU information when in Xinerama. + + * Added GLX protocol support (i.e., for GLX indirect rendering) for the following OpenGL extensions: + o GL_ARB_draw_buffers + o GL_EXT_Cg_shader + o GL_EXT_gpu_program_parameters +

Are there any commit policies one way or the other on the branches being tracked that would tell us the kinds of changes that will be going into them between now and release? Unfortunately there are not. mesa goes through a set of release candidates during which time commits tend to be mostly bug fixes, but the development efforts are not as strictly formalized as in other projects. -ati has also tended to go through a (short) rc process in recent releases; its process isn't strictly formalized either, but -ati upstream has been good about coordinating with our release schedule dates in previous releases when we've been in this situation. -- FFe for updating -ati/mesa/libdrm git snapshots until their individual releases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
