[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 424712] [NEW] [rv620] Karmic Alpha 5 resets the GPU repeatedly during bootup, then freezes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I'm using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450, which identifies as follows in lspci on Jaunty: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3450 Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel I created a LiveUSB of Karmic Alpha 5 using usb-creator with persistent storage, and rebooted into it. It gets into Xorg and shows a loading screen with a brown background and a moving white line in the center. Then, the screen flashes six times, the line stops moving, and the computer freezes up. Ctrl-Alt-Fx no longer works, and the only way I can get it to respond is with Alt-SysRq-REISUB. I extracted the relevant logfiles by mounting the persistent storage file, and will attach them. The end of /var/log/messages (attached) shows [drm] Resetting GPU six times, which would explain the six screen flashes. I also have six Xorg.x.log files, which I'll attach next. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [rv620] Karmic Alpha 5 resets the GPU repeatedly during bootup, then freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/424712 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 420143] Re: Crash on opening new document/new application [ooo-writer]
Your wondering if I can reproduce the bug under Karmic Koala 9.10? I haven't upgraded to 9.10 yet and are probably waiting for 2009 - 10 for that. You want me to report on the conditions when the crash tends to occur. As I mentioned in first post that was the first time this occured and I haven't been abel to reproduce the crash with the same software running - if you from earlier logs can give me input on which applications should be running (it's likely I had applications running in backround which I didn't think off). I would be happy to help you with a backtracing - if you thinkg it possible. I have ofcourse started and restarted my laptop a few times since the 27th of august. I would be glad to help if you give me directions to how. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 423694] Re: session active, not inhibited, screen idle message
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 397839 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/397839 The tray icon was to inform the user that the problem is due to xorg. this is not a gpm bug. it has been fixed in gpm. Right. But as of now it does a pretty bad job of informing the user about that. I am a technical guy and had absolutely no clue that this was caused by my regular screen flickering bug. I couldn't click on it and it took precious space from my desktop. Also it talked about scary things and didn't allow me to get more information. The URL was too long to remember or type, so I didn't bother. Even if it was, I don't think that displaying a mail thread url is the right way to educate end-users about problems - especially if there is no workaround etc. IMO, we shouldn't display it at all and should ensure that it does not happen for other issues :). If there are ways to make it more useful that would be fine too of course. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 420406] Re: intel: resume from suspend causes problems and freeze
It seems I have similar problems on my HP6930p despite I am not sure it is the same thing. About a week ago, all used to work fine. Now, after an update of the system to the latest version, if I suspend and resume, the screen seems OK for a second while I still see the dialog box with the reboot/suspend/hibernate buttons (which was used for suspending the machine). Then this dialog disappears, but also the frames of the windows disappear, and---interestingly---also all terminal windows disappear (though they still remain listed at the bottom of the screen). compiz is still running but it is in some strange mood: Sometimes my mouse works (despite not always) and if I click to the place where the frame should be, I can get the menu for moving a window, etc. Sometimes I manage to resolve the situation by manually killing compiz.real and compiz-decorator from a console and by starting compiz.real with the same parameters with which it is listed by ps ax before killing it. Sometimes, however, this does not work or leads to some strange troubles later (the number of workspaces decreases, the tapping with touchpad gets disabled, the system freezes completely after a while). -- intel: resume from suspend causes problems and freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421736] Re: Compiz locks up on resume from suspend (intel)
I encountered this bug on a Dell Studio 15 (Intel i965) using Jaunty with the xorg-edgers PPA and kernel, acpi-support, pm-utils, and compiz backported from Karmic. The Karmic daily livecd also has this issue. Downgrading libgl1-mesa-dri to 7.5-1ubuntu1 as Martin Albisetti suggested on bug #419264 seems to be a workaround. I've done several suspend-resume cycles and it hasn't crashed. The package is available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/amd64/libgl1-mesa-dri/7.5-1ubuntu1 I haven't tried the kernel patch that's also supposed to fix bug #419264, but I can once it's included in Karmic. -- Compiz locks up on resume from suspend (intel) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421736 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419434] Re: X server fails with DRI : drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22
Mesa 7.6 has the new r600 DRI driver (with 3D hardware acceleration). AFAIK, this driver still needs special DRM kernel modules (from Alex Deucher's branch of DRM: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/drm/?h=r6xx- r7xx-3d ). If you want to test this out, try mesa 7.6 again and temporarily move the file /usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so Now when you start X, mesa should fall back to using the DRI software rasterizer (check glxinfo) and your system should work normally. You could also build your own DRM, though the r600 DRI probably isn't ready for stable use. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374780] Re: [RV250] thinkpad t40 with ati radeon rv 250 (M 9000) freezes
I have an IBM Thinkpad T41 with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 (rv 250). I can't say I've noticed this problem in Ubuntu 9.04, but I just tried booting from the 9.10 alpha5 karmic livecd (off a USB stick), and the system always locks up within a minute or so of booting. I noticed a little bit of video corruption in a couple of spots on the screen. I don't even have enough time to run dmesg. I just tried looking on the usb stick, and even though user settings should be getting saved to it, I don't see any copy of Xorg*.log anywhere. Or for that matter, any normal looking linux filesystem. It's possible this lockup is due to my hard drive setup: I have a grey market ultrabay adapter which converts SATA signals to IDE. I have a SATA drive in there, plus I also have a normal IDE drive in the normal drive slot. That said, in the first 30 sec after booting from the usb stick, I've noticed that gnome seems much more responsive than before, even with compiz enabled (which is the default).
