[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 455603] Re: [Jaunty] No mouse after login in Ubuntu after install of Ubuntu-X ppa package today
I also noticed the same problem today. To be able to see where the invisible pointer was, I activated the option Locate pointer in the Mouse Preferences (the one that shows the position of the mouse when Control key is pressed). Then, by chance, I did something that brought the pointer back: with the help of the Ctrl key, I used the (invisible) mouse to resize a column in the package list in Synaptic. The pointer changed shape to the resizing arrows, and when I released it, it got back its arrow shape. I wonder if resizing anything would make the pointer appear again. -- [Jaunty] No mouse after login in Ubuntu after install of Ubuntu-X ppa package today https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455603 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451729] Re: HAL configuration for Kingsis Peripherals Evoluent VerticalMouse 3
Middle (aka scroll wheel) is normally paste and the one right to the scroll wheel opens context menu. The rightmost button, under the ring finger, used to do the Back function (and the thumb button did Forward). This is also how it works in Windows, at least without installing any additional drivers. Paste button placement doesn't need to be considered on that OS, though... I agree that this is largely a matter of preference - I don't find using the scrollwheel button difficult for pasting, but YMMV. I reverted the change using your instructions (thanks!) but can't really speak for others. Anyone using mice with extra buttons probably agrees that the best option would be being able to configure mouse buttons easily using a GUI. -- HAL configuration for Kingsis Peripherals Evoluent VerticalMouse 3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451729 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Ah, that's a different question... Regarding Karmic and nvidia-173.14.20, no I have never used the basic nvidia installer. I have only used aptitude and synaptic. I think when I first installed kubuntu 9.04 on my machine back in May I had some nvidia problems and I tried several things to get the driver (which was 173.14.17 or 173.14.18 at the time) working. I can't remember specifically, but I may have tried the nvidia installer at that time (or used some driver manager that used it for me). But again, with Karmic, nothing but aptitude. -- package nvidia-glx-173-dev 173.14.20-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456204] [NEW] [Jaunty] Screen image jumps on boot and in OS
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The screen flickers/jumps both when Ubuntu is booting and in the OS itself. It looks like the screen image jumps a cm up and then down again every ½ second. Sometimes it helps rebooting and sometimes not (it doesn't happen every time I boot) . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456286] [NEW] failsafe x is not working in karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Karmic no longer fails back to a known good fail safe graphics configuration if x crashes. Instead X is continually being restarted upon failure. This is a regression and is most likely related to how xsplash is being used. To recreate this bug start the computer with a broken xorg.conf configuration. In my case i somehow no longer had the kernel part of the nvidia driver installed. X would then start and report that the kernel module could no longer be found, It would then restart as X has crashed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 278112] Re: Screensaver doesn't start
Having no programming skills but a fair amount of Beta test work in many programs and a few operating systems, please take the following with a grain of noob salt... It appears that the issue may be the fault of having APM and ACPI active at the same time. I have had this issue in the past and when I do - I simply go in and turn off one of the two (APM for newer systems gets turned off or ACPI on older pre-2000 systems) and this resolves the issue instantly with a reboot. I hope this helps. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 443318] Re: Konsole LAG/Freezes when Typing - Kubuntu Karmic
I also have this problem, suddenly all the konsole get freeze, also if I want to logout/restart/poweroff does nothing... Ctrl+Alt+Fx does nothing as well. So I think we have 2 kind of problems here which happen in this kind of Notebook. One, is the little freeze when typing on konsole and another mayor freeze of the OS, also related. So, anyone will help to dig on this?? Cause final release is about to come... I always used Kubuntu but if this problem persist, I will have to switch to other distro. Thanks. -- Gustavo A. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456528] [NEW] Broken window placement under NVIDIA TwinView when going from 2 to 1 display
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I use a laptop and have a separate display I use in TwinView mode when at work. The separate display is marked as the main display so that the GNOME panel displays on it instead of on my laptop. The problem arises when I have started an app when in TwinView mode and have placed a window by that app on the external display. The app persists this location. Now, when I start my laptop without having the external screen attached, then start the app, the window appears off screen. Unless I know to look for it off screen by selecting the alternate virtual display, it seems as if the app is broken. This is especially a problem when only a dialogue appears on the non-visible space. I realize this is probably an application problem, not an X problem. Just thought I'd report it as this behaviour will be the genesis of many bug reports to many app maintainers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456547] [NEW] fonts not displayed in certain apps
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg after upgrading intrepid-jaunty-intrepid, i had serious font problems on my thinkpad x31 (radeon mobility M6 LY), such that many paplications (openoffice, emacs, and others) didn't display fonts at all when run under non-gnome desktops. i've now wiped the drive and installed karmic clean; now the problem is partly fixed, but certain programs won't display fonts at all, even when run undergnome. the ost crippling of these for me is the goggles music manager, which uses the libfox1.6 toolkit. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456590] [NEW] symlinks updatet the wrong way
Public bug reported: The Xorg Server couldn't load the glx module after installing the nvidia-glx-180 packet with aptitude, tried 170 too, but i doesn't worked either. That's for the bad news, but the good news is, I found the problem and a workaround: The Problem was, that an unsucessful attemp to install nvidia Cuda drivers left three (as far as i know) librariers in my system. Some symlinks wheren't updated the prober way and still pointed to those relicts. the first one was /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.190.18 the symlink /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so pointed corectly to libglx.so.180.44 so this wasn't the problem but there where two lybraries left on /usr/lib/: libGLcore.so.190.18 and libGL.so.190.18 the symlinks libGLcore.so.1 libGL.so.1 pointed to them when they should have pointed to libGLcore.so.180.44 and libGL.so.180.44. After changing the symlinks manualy to the right library everything worked fine. Maybe theres a way the packet manager points this two symlinks to the correct version instead of the newest one? the later is exactly the behaviour of ldconfig which i tried in first place. after i removed the files libGLcore.so.190.18 and libGL.so.190.18 ldconfig worked correctly! I hope the information helped, if there are furtehr questions, please don't hesitate to contact me! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456595] [NEW] External monitor not detected correctly anymore
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Since upgrading to the 9.10 beta my external monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster 172T) is not detected correctly anymore. Instead, the display preferences tool thinks I have an Apple Computer 13 monitor with a set of resolutions that is incompatible with my Samsung. It all works fine when adding modes manually using xrandr, but this is obviously not ideal. The problem appears to be that the system reports identical information for both the laptop LCD and the external monitor: they are both reported as APP 0x9c5c (which then somehow gets mapped to the Apple name).
