[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 429419] Re: xorg.conf needs to be reconfigured at each reboot
Last update until the problem is solve ... I think i found something worth interest. Today, i installed the fglrx driver from the repositories of Kubuntu 9.10 RC and it installed well. Then after i reboot i logged normally and then i had to setup the correct screen resolution. No big deal so far but when i reboot same problem as before. But i reboot again and choose the normal boot instead of the recovery mode i wanted. During the boot, a routine file system check has been performed automaticly (i think it is performed automaticly after a certain amount of boot) and then resume to the rest of the boot process. SURPRISE ! I had my graphic back !!! But my joy was short because when i had to reboot the problem shown up again. I wanted to see if it was just a lucky shot or it was something else so i reboot lots of times until the file system check was performed again and guess what? Yes, i had my graphic back again ! There is something in that file system check that seems to repair somehow the problem but not permanently just until the next reboot. I don't know much about programming but i'd bet it has something to do with the use (or no use) of the xorg.conf file by Kubuntu 9.10. Maybe it's a good clue or maybe not, as i said i'm not a programmer but the fact everything return to normal after the automatic file system check, even if it only solved my problem until i reboot, i think it might worth investigating. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 283128] Re: Keyboard indicator shows additional layout null
It looks like the same bug, and the patch will not work for you because it doesn't solve the problem: it simply gets rid of the symptoms for users with two three-level layouts (and you have three). You may run setxkbmap on startup to get rid of the extra layout automatically (i.e. put it in gnome session startup) or even assign it to some key combination if the layout keeps appearing after pressing multimedia keys. -- Keyboard indicator shows additional layout null https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283128 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460306] [NEW] X crashes when changing to xinerama mode while compiz is enabled
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I have a notebook with intel 945 graphic adapter, internal 1024*768 screen and an external 1280*1024 LCD. Compiz runs well in clone mode, also xinerama works when compiz is disabled. The problem occurs with every user (also with a newly created one). When compiz is running and I try to change from clone- to xinerama-mode using gnome-display-properities, the screen becomes black, only the mice is visible and working. When I kill X with Alt-Print-K, on my notebook screen gdm appears, but on the external screen there are only grey vertical stripes and the cloned mice. This behavior is visible after login, too. However, after I logged out again, it works fine. If I disable desktop-effects and enabled xinerama afterwards, xinerama works. If I try to enable desktop-effects again, I receive a message box containing Die Desktop-Effekte konnten nicht aktiviert werden.. The problem is reproducible, so feel free to ask further questions. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 455601] Re: [M7] (32MB) notification messages are not readable
Hi, I had the same problem. I switched to EXA, as using a smaller Virtual screen or color dpeth isn't really a solution (I use a dual-head setup with one 22 display and don't want to miss half the colors). EXA solved the problem of unreadable notifications, but messed up display performance (as discussed in #363238 [though that discussion targeted on Jaunty]). I'm quite at a loss now, as unreadable notifications are not a nice thing, but having to wait several seconds until Firefox (or any other program) scrolls a few rows is unbearable as well. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461044] [NEW] [GM45] Compiz is sluggish but glxgears runs at 1160 fps
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I know, glxgears is not a benchmark, but to me is strange that glxgears runs at 1160 but using Desktop wall, Ring switcher or Desktop cube is intolerably slow as soon as more than three windows are on the screen, specially when the plugin is started . For example, if I use the Ring or Flip switchers, the first time the animation is jerky, VERY jerky, and smooths a bit after that, but not much. Desktop wall is almost unusable due to the jerkiness of the animation if the window previews are active. On the other hand, video works OK. Well, it flickers due to another known problem with Intel cards, but compiz not only flickers, it is jerky too. This happens in an Acer Aspire 5735 laptop with 4GB of RAM and a T5800 CPU, using Jaunty amd64. I would say that the problem is that the video card uses shared memory, but currently 256M are assigned: ~$ sudo lspci -v -s 00:02.0 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device 0176 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 2295 Memory at f800 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M] Memory at d000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] I/O ports at 1800 [size=8] Capabilities: [90] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit- Queue=0/0 Enable+ Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 3 Disabling Sync to vblank in compiz configuration doesn't help, and I don't dare tweaking with driconf, at least as the first resort. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 459512] Re: X server aborts if two primary devices found
Mark, Is it possible for you to confirm whether plugging the monitor into the other card does cause the crash with white? If the currently available fix is only going to correct the problem for any given user 50% of the time, I think we should wait to be able to address this fully and fix it via SRU. A reupload of xorg-server at this point is going to set back CD validation, leaving us very little margin for dealing with any other issues that show up and necessitate a respin of media. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461107] [NEW] 1) monitor settings not saved properly and 2) 'main monitor' setting missing using nvidia-settings in 9.10 RC
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings I have a Dell laptop with an external monitor. I have made a clean 9.10 beta install that has been updated to RC 1) Using Separate X screen configuration, when I set the laptop monitor to be 'right of' and the external monitor to be 'absolute', save to xorg.conf, and log in and out again, this setting does not take effect. When I check the display configuration again, it is the laptop monitor that is 'absolute' and the external monitor is now 'right of' - the opposite of what I tried to configure. 2) Furthermore, the 'left of' and 'right of' setting do not matter anyway, because the two screens are independent. In 9.04 only one screen (the 'main monitor') would have the menu bar and I could move windows between the two monitors as if they were one big monitor. Now I can't do that, and also the option to select 'main monitor' is gone. Merged 3 duplicates (bug #450888, bug #456998, bug #457086) into this one for ease of tracking. This bug doesn't seem so hardware-specific (or even hardware-related in any way) now. And letting this bug slip through into the release version of Karmic will create even *more* stray duplicate bugs. :( -- [MASTER] Karmic alpha: Checkbox cannot switch display modes in display test https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/427932 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to x11-xserver-utils in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 459512] Re: X server aborts if two primary devices found
On 26/10/09 12:55, Steve Langasek wrote: Is it possible for you to confirm whether plugging the monitor into the other card does cause the crash with white? Interestingly, it did not cause a crash. So, white worked in the case where the monitor was connected to the card it picked, and it did not crash when the monitor was connected to a different card. More interestingly, though, the monitor stayed completely dark when it was connected to the other card. The BIOS and boot sequence just didn't display at all. It's as if the top card (the one picked by white) is used at POST. I don't know if that's just luck, or if it's some convention in the BIOS, or how this is generally determined, but trying to boot with the monitor connected any other way just shows nothing. The machine does boot, however, so I captured a Xorg log for that case. It shows no crash, but it shows that there were no connected monitors. Interestingly, plugging a monitor in after the boot did not bring anything up on that monitor. I don't think this provides enough new insight to decide what the likely impact of the patch is on the average dual-card system, or other systems. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 290704] Re: [fglrx]Computer freeze when switching user
Thanks and understand. Actually that is the problem with Linux generally and the point I believe Ubuntu can push the opensource world a big step ahead. The manufacturers need a strong partner speaking with clear words and having some reasonable number of customers behind it. What I would expect from Ubuntu and that is actually the only one but very big blame. There is written in hardware driver part of menu, that the fglrx driver ais tested by Ubuntu developers and when I use it, it crashes computer to total death (anything except hard reset doesn't work). Actually I am not developer, but I would expected from a good system, that there could be black screen but I will be still able to control the system by keyboard and maybe get the command line with the open-source driver or anything but not lose the data. ;-) If Ubuntu should be for a normal people (manufacturers will have to take claims more seriously) there should be tested with at least some HW and ther should be a database, where I would be able to find HW with easy getting knowledge if this HW is tested (It will work without any problems) or at least which problems are facing the users. So I stupid user can look in this DB and see, that ATI will not work with 3D, fglrx driver has so many bugs (list) and look that these bugs were reported to AMD months or years ago and response is fuck-off. Getting access to this DB even from HW driver menu instead of note, that i was tested by Ubuntu developers, AMD will get publicity, that already will wake them up. - Anb I as a stupid user will look into the HW DB and buy card, which is tested by Ubuntu. I as a user will be happy, because of my PC will not crash and will tell everywhere, that Ubuntu is perfectly correct. With correct I mean, that it not work perfect with any HW but will know, that if I use the tested one, I will have NO problem. And I will buy it. SORRY FO BEING SO LONG BUT WITHOUT DOING THIS, UBUNTU WILL NEVER BE FOR NORMAL USERS AND hw MANUFACTURER WILL NOT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. -- [fglrx]Computer freeze when switching user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290704 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 290704] Re: [fglrx]Computer freeze when switching user
Hi Ivos, I totally share your excitement and of course I agree with you. The hardware should be as functional as possible, however it will always have a small number of bugs which has to be fixed. Nothing is bug-free, neither in the Windows' world. And that's the reason to make new drivers and solve old problems. The only confusing thing on this all is, that this bug has been really let forgotten and nobody cares about it (that's my view). The only thing we can do is to remind it to the original developers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 290704] Re: [fglrx]Computer freeze when switching user
Hi folks, I am the original reporter of this bug and of course, I'm still reading this thread. I also sent a bug report on the official AMD site but I didn't get any response from then, neither it was added into official release notes as known bug. It is even more frustrating, that it remains opened for almost a year (believing that the bug was here even earlier). I finally realized, that it was just a crew feedback, not a bugreport site.. well, I'm not very sure if I also filled a bugreport on the unofficial AMD's bugzilla. I'll make sure and let you know then Thanks a lot and hope for better results. -- Lukáš Chmela lukaschm...@gmail.com IRC: kyselejsyre...@irc.freenode.org, ICQ: 202077459 514D 3C69 8498 E400 0ACE 90F2 00E3 CACA A5BA ECC7 -- [fglrx]Computer freeze when switching user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290704 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
