[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 465318] Re: intel graphics laptop crashes with external monitor

2009-11-29 Thread Juan de la Figuera
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 408432 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408432

I saw this marked as a duplicate of 408432 (marked with low
importance).

But again all that seems to be directed to Xorg problems. This bug
happens without Xorg (only virtual console is enough) (see #21, #25),
just when enableing the external monitor with toshset.

Should we open a new bug for this issue on Toshiba laptops?

Comment on Rob #28, I have also bad instability using nomodeset,
ususally a crash every couple of hours (everything freezes including
mouse, fan speeds up). This bug is making my computer unusable, and I
cannot trust it to give a talk.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 464591] Re: upgrade breaks graphic drivers and x, preventing login or startx

2009-11-29 Thread Hypergod_2
you just have to stop gdm durning flickering screen in tty1 login
type
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
then install nvidia drivers(not open source one)
if you have not downloaded drivers, boot from previous kernel and download them
then install drivers by
sudo sh NVIDIA.run ,or whatever is your driver package file name
then start gdm
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
and you will get u your display back
(works in most cases) including mine..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361693] Re: Aiptek tablet only registers as a mouse in /dev/input

2009-11-29 Thread Shaved Wookie
By the way, wacdump seems to return x/y position, pressure and
touch=down perfectly. When I click the right button or middle button
wacdump registers nothing and the cursor doesn't move, but I'm not too
fussed by that right now. I just want pressure and the ability to
register a tap!

Is it possible to symlink where KDE / x.org are looking for it to where
it's showing up?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 489875] [NEW] [i915] Screen goes over the edges of display and too low resolution

2009-11-29 Thread Hans Hellén
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm using a TV as a display via DVI addon PCI-card (SDVO; Silicon Image
MAIA ADD2-R DUAL PAD x16 card; Model Sil1364 DVI ADD2-R) from DVI output
to HDMI input. The computer is HP Compaq dc7100 SFF with Intel 915G
Express chipset with Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900.

The gnome-display-properties believes that my display is LG Electronics
42, although it is 26 LG 26LC2RA. There is only one resolution to be
chosen: 720x480.

The desktop goes over all of the edges of the display, so that
vertically only half ot the Gnome panels can be seen if the desktop is
aligned in center.

According to LG manual:

* Recommended: 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz for model 26LC2R*
HorizSync 47.7 (KHz)
VertRefresh59.8 (Hz)

* Generally for DVD player use 1280 x 720

Currently, most of the windows don't fit into the screen/Desktop and
cannot be scaled, so they have to be looked at in several so called
workspaces/virtual desktops, which is very complicated...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479641] Re: when memory runs low, xorg locks up and does not unlock when memory conditions improve

2009-11-29 Thread themusicgod1
I tested this on the karmic, lucid, and debian sid/experimental versions of
xserver-xorg-video-intel and the problem remained. Installed debugging symbols
for xorg, and brought it up in gdb(in a 'normal' situation, ie when gdm first
loads, the backtrace had meaningful information, although not (yet) source
lines), and when the freeze occurs, all I get is

Backtrace stopped: previous frame identical to this frame()
#2 0x00e9f07 in ?? () from lib.so.6
#1 0x00f07ae3 in ?? () from lib.so.6

It should be noted that this same hardware appears to not exhibit this
bug on debian stable where the i810 driver is used (it's an 830).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 320388] Re: accentuated characters wrongly displayed (encoding problem) in title bar

2009-11-29 Thread Thomas Dickey
see
   http://invisible-island.net/xterm/xterm.log.html#xterm_210

man xterm (resource settings):

   utf8Title (class Utf8Title)
Applications can set xterm's title by writing a control
sequence. Normally this control sequence follows the VT220
convention, which encodes the string in ISO-8859-1 and allows
for an 8-bit string terminator. If xterm is started in a UTF-8
locale, it translates the ISO-8859-1 string to UTF-8 to work
with the X libraries which assume the string is UTF-8.

However, some users may wish to write a title string encoded in
UTF-8. Set this resource to true to allow UTF-8 encoded
title strings. That cancels the translation to UTF-8, allowing
UTF-8 strings to be displayed as is.

   The default is false.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486837] Re: Freezes with nvidia-glx-185 or -190 after upgrade from jaunty to karmic

2009-11-29 Thread Mossroy
I was hoping that the recent kernel upgrade (to 2.6.31-15) could help with this
issue.
It does not : still the same freezes with flash videos.
I can reproduce that easily :
- activate nvidia proprietary drivers
- open a flash video, for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU
and watch it in full screen mode
- after a few minutes, the freeze happens and all you can do is manually reboot
the computer

XRRSetScreenConfigAndRate of libXrandr and the BadMatch reply is
received here. What I can't figure out is where the request actually
gets handled and where that BadMatch reply is actually generated. The
request/response mechanism seems to be handled by libX11 but this
doesn't have anything to do with the actual operation. It must surely be
driver-specific so I've looked at xf86-video-intel and xf86-video-
radeonhd and while there is RandR rotation stuff in there, I can't see
anything that looks like it's dealing with such a request. I've not
really hacked X before. Maybe I'll ask on a mailing list unless you guys
have any ideas?

Watching the same youtube video from Totem works without freezing.
Same thing for another fullscreen streaming video with VLC : no freeze.
So I suspect something related to Adobe Flash and/or nvidia drivers

2009-11-29 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
mistr, could you run `apport-collect 446632 ` from the computer where
this problem occurs. This will upload various mesa related logs and
information about your system that we need for reporting this upstream.
It would be best if you could do this when running xorg-edgers, since
that will show logs generated with the latest development version of
mesa.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 489991] [NEW] Dell Laptop - external display goes blank when using docking station

2009-11-29 Thread Bart Heinsius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I insert my Dell M2300 laptop in a Dell docking station, I get the
initial Ubuntu boot screen on the external monitor that is connected to
the docking station but when X starts the external monitor goes blank.

My solution was to add the following line to the Device section in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Option UseDisplayDevice DFP-1

Xorg should recognize the docking station and the external monitor
attached through it and add the option above to xorg.conf before
starting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442629] Re: Touchpad too much sensitive after upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic

2009-11-29 Thread Andrew Levey
Same Problem ?

Advent 5421 laptop with clean install of Ubuntu Karmic 9.10

The touchpad is very sensitive and with tapping enabled will select any icon
that is passed over without tapping.
I created the /etc/hal/fdi/policy/shmconfig.fdi
and entered the contents as listed.
I then installed gsynaptics package.. Attempts to reduces sensitivity with
gsynaptics fail. Sensitivity resets itself to anywhere between about 30% to
100% sensitivity. If setting at 30% 'sticks' which it does sometimes, it's
still way too sensitive and tapping unusable. Scrolling settings don't seem to
work but acceleration pointer speed does.
I have tapping disabled currently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490017] [NEW] rendering errors followed by complete system crash

2009-11-29 Thread alex_b
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04. While browsing or reading email (firefox and
thunderbird), the X server started to display some characters and images (in
firefox) wrongly. After a short time the complete system crashes. It is not
possible to log in remotely with ssh or to switch to virtual terminals (with
Ctrl+Alt+F1). My laptop is a HP EliteBook 6930p described here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HPCompaq6930p/Intel with Mobile Intel
GMA 4500MHD video card.
It is the second time I have this problem.

In the kernel.log files I have the following error message:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 489855] Re: System bell broken under X in Karmic

2009-11-29 Thread Grondr
Sure thing. I'm attaching two slightly-different X logs (I don't know
why the older one is talking about evdev but the newer one isn't).
They're both from the amd64 LiveCD. I'd purged PulseAudio at some point
and had been restarting X after various changes to see if anything
happened; I don't know if both of these are from after nuking PA, but
one certainly is, and I can always boot a fresh LiveCD and give you that
if you want. The third attachment is lspci -vvnn run as root.

Please let me know if there is any other information you'd find useful,
or if there are any further debugging steps I can take. I'm stymied.
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] [NEW] Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2009-11-29 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After the upgrade to Karmic my desktop was black, but I still had the panel and
could use compiz.
Then I found this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8221972postcount=6

After the changes to /etc/X11/xorg.conf my desktop was back but 3D was disabled.
This card always worked fine with other releases of Kubuntu.

I have found other bugs wich I think are related:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/293698

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/348332

I use the driver from this ppa:

https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

After I read about it on the blog of Mr. Harrington.
When I start the pc I get a message that I can only use Ubuntu in a low
resolution, and then it starts in the right resolution.

My system is:

Distribution: Kubuntu Karmic with the latest updates.
Monitor: AGneovo F-417 with resolution 1280 x1024
GPU: ATI Radeon 9250

I am reporting this because this is the only way I can help to make
K/Ubuntu beter.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 459961] Re: radeon_dma.c:210: radeonRefillCurrentDmaRegion: Assertion `dma_bo-bo-cref == 1' failed.

2009-11-29 Thread ybkosher
Tormod,

If I understand this, that while loop was put in because of possible
memory leaks, but in bo_allocate, the new bo is made part of a linked
list. radeon_bo_legacy_dtor destroys all the bo_legacys in the list. I
don't think it is possble to leak the memory.

A very unscientific test, but I ran mplayer with gl2 as the video-output
through valgrind. There were no memory leaks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 438346] Re: [i915gm] [jaunty, karmic] X freezes every day or so

2009-11-29 Thread Cos
I have IBM ThinkPad X41 with intel 915 video chipset. I'm using Gnome
and doesn't have either Compiz installed nor any effects enabled. The
problem has surfaced after some update back in 9.04. I'm seeing very
often (sometimes a couple time a day) after upgrade to 9.10. Been
running Ubuntu since 8.04 after dumping SuSe in favor of the Debian like
distro. Should I add that it has became HIGHLY frustrating?

When X hangs only the mouse cursor is moving: I can't switch to a
terminal, I can't change windows, I can't restart gnome by Ctrl-PrtSc-K.
However, I can ssh into my machine and even can force it to sleep by
running pm-suspend. On the next wake up an xterm (if it happened to be
running before the freeze) is usable (as well as CLI terminals). But
that's pretty much it. gdm can't be restarted and normally I need to
reboot the laptop.

I'm currently running this session with all debug env. set. As soon as
it freezes next time I'm going to post the logs here.

JimmyNeutron, do you have the exact same issue that this bug report is
about in Karmic? I find that strange, since I have recently installed
two Optiplex 760 USFF with Karmic, and I don't see this problem (I
sometimes get a different kind of corruption, though). Also, unless you
are the original reporter, it is always better to open a new bug report
than to reopen a closed one (at least for xorg-related bugs).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 430230] Re: libglx.so has undefined symbol. Causes glx module failure

2009-11-29 Thread Jay Gates
Just to clarify: After installing a driver using NVidia's installer, in
order to revert to the packaged driver, first uninstall it as follows
(installer filename may differ):

sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.42-pkg1.run --uninstall

Then re-install the packaged driver (I recommend using envyng, which you
may have to install using the package manager).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 467490] Re: nvidia drivers don't work due to -Q in obsolete /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video

2009-11-29 Thread Jay Gates
To clarify/summarize: When upgrading directly from 8.04 to 9.10 (Kubuntu
Karmic Upgrader), the following minimal change can be made to prevent
the nvidia binary driver from failing to load:

1. edit the lrm-video file:
sudo nano -w /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video

2. comment out the following line with a hash mark:
#install nvidia /sbin/lrm-video nvidia $CMDLINE_OPTS

3. reboot, or restart the X server

Note for KDE4 users: when the nvidia driver is working again, your
screen resolution may increase on login, then decrease again, making
your panel inaccessible (my panel is set to autohide). Create a new
panel, add a system tray widget to it, then run krandrtray. Now use
krandrtray to increase your screen resolution to maximum, and the panel
should reappear.

again, so you have to disable the laptop screen. In other words it is only able
to display from one screen (need to retest this, if I remember to).

the lower resolution, which usually ends up looking bad on larger displays.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display is black, external monitor too, with frozen mouse coursor

2009-11-29 Thread inkhorn
I also have this problem (using a laptop with an Intel GMA 945 graphics
controller). I can confirm that no crash happens with the following
sequence:

Boot laptop with external monitor unplugged,
Disable visual effects,
Plug in the monitor,
Type xrandr --auto in Terminal,
Go to Display Prefs,
Turn laptop monitor off,
Keep external monitor on/Set external monitor to max resolution,
Fini!

Now how can I get the external monitor plugged in without having to go
through this process?
