[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353800] Re: restricted drivers (ATI) causes Xorg memory leakage

2009-12-24 Thread smoosh
This is interesting... I upgraded Xorg first but left fglrx alone, and
the memory leak is MUCH less significant. I randomly had to restart
compiz after running up the memory watching full screen video, and it
reset the memory to what it had been when I first booted the computer!
So, for me, on a SOny Vaio with ATI Radeon hd 3400 series, I just added
a custom compiz launcher in cairo dock, and I just reset it when
necessary. seems to work good so far. No issues with the new Xorg.

Hello again Nigel,
Have attempted to re-issue the command but would not
respond, possibly because it already has been given the command to
allow to 'change anything' which I was successful at doing a few days
ago. The developer should now be able to access the system to work on
it.

Thanks - Terry

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500273] [NEW] Gamepad detected as a mouse in Lucid

2009-12-24 Thread Michael Marley
Public bug reported:

There seems to be a problem (most likely related to HAL's removal from
xorg) in which Xorg detects an attached gamepad as a mouse, using one of
the sticks as an absolute pointer. This makes it impossible to normally
use the (real) mouse. Additionally, attempting to start X with the
gamepad attached results in X segfaulting. I have attached an
Xorg.0.log that I captured on my brother's computer by starting X
without the pad attached, and then attaching and detaching the pad. If
I should supply any other data, please let me know.

2009-12-24 Thread Jonathan Blackhall
I was also experiencing this bug on a fresh install of Karmic.
According to a suggestion in a forum post, I disabled KMS (by adding
nomodesetting to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub), ran
sudo update-grub, rebooted, and now things are working splendidly. Is
KMS somehow at fault here?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418939] Re: Too many crimean tatar keyboard layouts added for Romania

2009-12-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for forwarding this issue upstream and engaging with suv on it.
I am of the feeling that this is really rather an upstream decision, and
not of high enough criticality (compared with X crashes and so on) that
we need to take action in the distro, thus I'm marking it wontfix. We
will take whatever solution is arrived at upstream when we merge in the
latest xkeyboard-config package. Thanks for working on this issue and
helping to make xkeyboard-config optimal for everyone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 152648] Re: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error

2009-12-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi all,

Unfortunately, while the title of this bug looks technical and specific,
in truth all it means is "X crashed for some reason". You'll see this
message in gdm logs for any variety of different crashes, but I'm afraid
people are finding this bug report and since the error message is the
same are assuming they have the same bug. So I'm going to close this
bug report so it doesn't continue to mislead people.

By default the information displayed in the log files when a crash
occurs is insufficient to debug the issue. Instead, you'll need to
collect a full backtrace - see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for
guidance on this. (Although with -nvidia since it's a binary
proprietary driver, even with a backtrace we likely won't be able to fix
it at the distro level anyway. Still, backtraces are worth collecting
just in case.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500226] [NEW] Freeze

2009-12-24 Thread Sami Pietila
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi,

Running this simple Jmonkeyengine demo (/example code) freezes X on
Ubuntu. I have tried this with 3 different ubuntu machines. Basically
this freeze starts to happen when the application is run about 3 - 5
times. The freeze happens when trying to exit the program. In fact, the
program somehow messes the graphics handling in such a way that if I run
OpenGL program, say, OpenArena, exiting openarena freezes X too.

(It might be that with this bug, a java applet could be created to
Internet which does Denial Of Service to Ubuntu or at least messes local
OpenGL applications making them to hang X.)

Please fix this bug, so that I can continue to develop games with
Jmonkeyengine.

See original post to jmonkeyengine mailing list:

Yeah I'd attach gdb remotely as the next step.

I reimplemented the apport handler about a week ago so it *should* be
catching the crashes appropriately, but it's possible the signal isn't
propagating out properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 305301] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI (needs KMS)

2009-12-24 Thread gene
I do not think I will be interested in KMS in the nearest future, since
it brings so many other much more serious bugs. So the question of
whether a machine can resume from suspend or not is not important
anymore. If and when suspend finally works for rc410, you might want to
pay a little bit more attention to my comment #124.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458781] Re: bluetooth mouse fails to reconnect

2009-12-24 Thread Jamin W. Collins
I tested with the lucid alpha, but as it's a limited environment it's
hard to spend a prolonged period of time in it. However, that being
said, for the time that I did use it my bluetooth mouse stayed connected
and was responsive.

Recently (few days ago), I decided to completely reinstall Karmic on my
laptop. Since doing so, my bluetooth mouse has not disconnected or
become unresponsive.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484020] Re: [i845G] Display freezes (except for mouse pointer) without warning

2009-12-24 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Daniel, I agree that this looks bad and is very annoying for those
that have the affected chipsets. I don't have have the affected
chipsets, so I can't do anything else than guiding the bug reporters
in what to report.

I think one problem with this bug is that none of those that are
affected are very experienced linux users and therefore able to
troubleshoot on their own. What I think is needed is someone bisecting
the kernel and or the intel driver to find the commit(s) that
triggered this. Hopefully, that will give the upstream developers an
idea of what might be wrong. Unfortunately, we haven't seen any
upstream activity on the 845G and 855GM freeze bugs that we have
reported so far.

To me this sound like a serious problem that both Canonical and Intel
(and Mandriva, etc.) should have high on their priority list. It
doesn't look like it is the case, though.

> I can't believe that
> Canonical would have no better response than "Wait till Lucid, it might
> just possibly run on your stock Dell system without freezing."

Have you seen this response anywhere? So far I haven't seen any
response from Canonical at all on this problem. Indeed, I would expect
that unless a linux user does some more investigation to get this bug
fixed, it will still be present in Lucid. Sad but true.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500115] [NEW] System hangs when plugging in external monitor

2009-12-24 Thread Joachim Haga

seems). Note that background jobs run normally, but keyboard and screen
are dead (including console switch, lid close events, etc.).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500105] [NEW] x freezes in ubuntu 9.04 on using OOo

2009-12-24 Thread kgroen77
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu 9.04

xorg:
  Geïnstalleerd: 1:7.4~5ubuntu18
  Kandidaat: 1:7.4~5ubuntu18
  Versietabel:
 *** 1:7.4~5ubuntu18 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I opened OOo and x freezes immediately. I wanted to write this report,
only Firefox opened, and x froze again.

+ Does ctrl+alt+f1 take you to a console? --> no
+ Does ctrl+alt+backspace restart X? --> no
+ Does mouse pointer still move? --> no
+ Does the keyboard LED come on when hitting the CAPSLOCK key? --> no
+ Can you ssh into the system from another computer? --> don't know how to do

Only xorg in dapper drake was stable. After upgrading to 8.04 and further this
freezing occured.

Compiz disabled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487362] Re: xorg is eating up memory

2009-12-24 Thread eeos support
It seems that the use of bash for monitoring system processes, for
example through top, does unreasonably exapnd xorg memory usage. It may
be linked to bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-
server/+bug/186354

Please assign importance critical because it does eat away resources and
may make teh system unusable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 497954] Re: Random full screen flash then xorg-server crash back to login screen

2009-12-24 Thread Jerry
I fix the dependency problem. I had to remove all the nvidia packages
and install the modalias packages and the nvida-common. I installed
195.22 and the problem is back. flash-flash then login screen.
Therefore the problem must be in the nvidia accelerated server as the
NV, non-accelerated work fine.

This morning I had an update on nvidia 195.30. I just installed it and
hoping this may fix the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500079] [NEW] KUbuntu 10.04: KWin effects cannot be enabled on Intel 82Q35 Express

2009-12-24 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I can't enabled KWin desktop effects through the Configure Window
Behavior dialog. I get an error "Desktop Effects could not be enabled
using the current configuration options", while running compiz (using
--replace) works well with all compositing effects.

This is a brand new KUbuntu 10.04 beta installed with all updates. Xorg
was using the default configuration (no configuration file). I tried
creating a configuration file using Xorg --configure and that didn't
change anything, even when I added an "Extensions" section with Option
Composite Enable.

The new xorg.conf file is set to use the "intel" driver, and I have an Intel
graphics adapter:
$ lspci -v

2009-12-24 Thread Erik B. Andersen
This file resulted after I continued in the first file when I should
have tried to get a backtrace. So I kill all gdbs and started a new gdb,
and reattached it, and got this file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500066] Re: X display corruption switching users, uses 100% CPU, seg faults

2009-12-24 Thread Erik B. Andersen
** Description changed:

To reproduce this bug (on Lucid):
  1. login to a user. (We'll call it user #1)
  2. Go to switch users
  3. Login to another user (i.e. user #2)
  4. Go to switch users
  5. Try to login to user #1
- 6. Notice screen corruption. Try sshing in and running top. Notice Xorg
processes using 99-100 % CPU. (I expected it to switched to the already running
session belonging to user #1)
- 7. If you had gdb attached to the process, it will return to gdb prompt. Type
continue and the computer logs in. (if you didn't have gdb attached, then you
have to power off the computer, or run sudo init 6 to get back to normal)
+ 6. Notice screen corruption. Notice that you cannot get to a terminal with
Ctrl Alt F1 and that the capslock key doesn't blink the capslock indicator. No
mouse pointer is visible. Try sshing in and running top. Notice Xorg processes
using 99-100 % CPU. (I expected it to switched to the already running session
belonging to user #1)
+ 7. If you had gdb attached to the process, it will return to gdb prompt. In
gdb, Type continue and the computer logs in.(EDIT:couldn't get the continue
trick to work every time. Killing at gdbs and then all Xorgs with signal 9 may
get you unstuck.) (if you didn't have gdb attached, then you have to power off
the computer, or run sudo init 6 to get back to normal)
  8. Continuing on assuming you do have gdb atached, go to switch users again.
  9. Attempt to login to user #2.(I expected it to switched to the already
running session belonging to user #2)
  10. Notice how you get a background like the gdm, but with no dialog (i.e.
the thing that lets you choose users and enter passwords).
  11. After waiting awhile, gdb says that the program seg faulted. typing
continue at the gdb prompt does nothing. (EDIT, I did this process again and it
happened at an earlier step-- I may have found a separate bug).

I tried to get a backtrace with gdb. I make a mistake at step 11; I
should have tried to get a backtrace instead of continuing, so I
killall'ed gdb and reattached it, and got another backtrace.

I will include a picture of the screen corruption that happens at step
  6, and a picture of step 11.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 482456] Re: Corrupt video leaving graphics mode

2009-12-24 Thread Philipp Kerling
Same problem, but on a G210M for a change. Problem persists with nvidia's
195.30 beta driver. Did anyone try to contact them about this yet?
