[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)

2010-01-24 Thread Irihapeti
@Geir
Lucid is already on the laptop, with lxde and openbox as desktop environments.
I can make an image of the installation (so that I can put it back later) and
then install Xubuntu-desktop and do some testing. I take it that ideally you'd
like batchbuffer dumps from both the standard Ubuntu kernel plus the latest
mainline kernel. I hope to have something to report in a day or two, other
commitments allowing. :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511844] [NEW] Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug

2010-01-24 Thread ScislaC
Public bug reported:

1) I'm using Ubuntu Lucid
2) xserver-xorg-input-wacom - 0.10.3+20100109-1ubuntu1
3) I expected hotplugging to work properly on more than one plug.
4) It appears that hotplugging only works on the first plug. The tablet works
properly as expected during this session, however if I unplug and plug the
tablet in again it will not work any longer.

After the first plugging in (and unplugging) of my tablet no more
information about it is added to my Xorg log.

My copy of Lucid has all updates applied as of this posting, no non-
standard kernel or X-related packages are installed (no ppas or other
repos that would affect this), and the tablet is a Wacom Intuos 2.

It actually takes a full reboot for the tablet to be recognized again,
restarting the X session isn't enough (this is based on my assumption
that the X session completely terminates as it used to on logging out).

** Affects: xf86-input-wacom (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 467841] Re: after first splash boot, screen flickers displaying a bunch of drm: failed to restore crtc configuration

2010-01-24 Thread manu
Hmm it's been a while. I have sent the patch upstream, so I know it has been
fixed there.
Here is the commit msg. From e808e40278ee315eb6759dd40dc947e6fb2e642f Mon Sep 17
00:00:00 2001
From: Zhenyu Wang zhen...@linux.intel.com
Date: Wed, 11 Nov 2009 10:22:01 +0800
Subject: [PATCH] drm/i915: Fix CRT hotplug detect by checking really no
channels attached

For CRT hotplug detect status, we have four test results as blue
channel only, green channel only, both blue and green channel, and
no channel attached. Origin code only marks both blue and green channel
case as connected, but ignore other possible connected states. This one
trys to detect CRT by checking no channel attached case instead.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5

2010-01-24 Thread Bard
Hi all,

Just in case it helps (even though it looks like the solution today - as
I understood it after reading the 187 posts - is to wait for Lucid with
the new X.org server) :

Environment : Ubuntu AMD64 9.10, 2 Go RAM, NVidia 185, Effects set to Normal,
Vino Server
I'm accessing it from an Iphone 2G (3.1.2 Jailbreak) through SSH either in Wifi
or Edge.

Edge is definitely too slow for that : first screen takes about 2 min to
appear and no refresh (SSH terminal is very slow but acceptable)

Wifi :

No refresh of the screen but I still see the mouse pointer move (far
from smooth but I see it...).

With effects set to none, refresh is fine.

For all it's worth

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 55270] Re: Double-click timeout is not applied to X

2010-01-24 Thread mishagam
Double-clicking still doesn't work for ubuntu 9.10 and netbeans 6.8.
changing in ~/.Xresources fixed it - thanks
I now believe that change in /etc/X11/Xresources/X11-common would fix it also.
I wonder why it takes several years to change this flag in mouse preferences
dialog - may be because /etc/X11 changes things for ALL users and mouse
preferences are presumably for ONE user?
May be, but in my opinion making double-click time same for all users is
preferable to double-click not working for Java applications like Netbeans.

Same problem here, clean install of Kubuntu Lucid Alpha 2. Nvidia
proprietary driver does not install.

I'll attach /var/log/jockey.log for the nvidia driver (I have tried
twice).

Since modern nvidia hardware will overheat rapidly if used with the nv
driver, I would regard this bug as serious.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 453989] Re: Xephyr - unrecognised device identifier!

2010-01-24 Thread Tim Towers
Sometime in the last two weeks my Xnext (and now that I have tested it,
Xephyr too) have also started failing with:

(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)
unrecognised device identifier!

I am not running amule, I have edited /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xorg-
server.conf to add the 'allow' lines as above.

Unlike the previous posters, my Xnest is not working, it also fails with
an error (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)

However:

My remote system is also running ubuntu, and its possible that I am
seeing errors by my client programs because they have always been there
and I have only just started looking for them. It seems from my tcpdump
that xdmcp on the server has simply stopped working:

listening on ra0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511764] Re: No memory allocations

Hi Robert, glxgears FPS is not a good benchmark for performance. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance for some
things that are. You can also google for glxgears is not a benchmark.
You may try the phoronix test in order to get some real performance
comparisons. See http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/

you can find performance regressions between releases, that is more

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512033] [NEW] After upgrading to Lucid no keyboard

2010-01-24 Thread Ted Gould
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I realize that tablets are all the rage right now, but I really feel
that X is being a little preemtive in unregistering all of my keyboards
for me. I tried to plug in a USB keyboard as well, with no luck. It
happens on the .31 and .32 kernels that are installed and appears to me
to be an X issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460478] Re: X crash on start (Xubuntu)

2010-01-24 Thread Mattias Holmlund
I have the same problem as the original submitter. I am running
Mythbuntu 9.10 (with xfce4) and have gdm setup to login automatically.
Unfortunately, the login fails with the Fatal IO error 104 (Connection
reset by peer) on X server messages in .xsession-errors. If I then
retry the login a few times, the login will eventually succeed and
everything seems to be working as it should. After a successful login,
there are no Fatal IO error messages in .xsession-errors.

After an unsuccessful attempt, I also found the following in Xorg.0.log:

(II) intel(0): EDID for output TV1
(II) intel(0): Allocate new frame buffer 1024x768 stride 1024

I have attached the complete Xorg.0.log.

This is on a Mac Mini with intel graphics, which means that the problem
is not specific to nvidia.

Please let me know if you need any more info.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408432] Re: [i915] 'xrandr' with no arguments garbles screen

2010-01-24 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
In order to subscribe to the bug report at bugs.freedesktop.org you
first need an account. Go to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ and click
Open a new FreeDesktop Bugzilla account. Only then can you add your
email address to the CC field of the bug report.

The logs that I think are useful with all the three kernels are:
- the file generated from `dmesg Dmesg.txt`
- the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log
- the file generated from `lspci -vvnn Lscpi.txt`
- the file generated from `sudo intel_reg_dumper Regdump.txt` (You will need
one of the packages xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg or intel-gpu-tools for this,
depending on the ubuntu version.)

I think the best option is if you file a new bug report with the
`ubuntu-bug` command, describe exactly what your setup, what you do and
what you observe, mention this bug report and upload the files I
described above. It is best if you do this with Lucid, which is the
current development version of Ubuntu, since there has been a lot of
changes since the software that is currently in Karmic was written.

And when you test, could you use the command `xrandr` instead of going
to System-Preferences-Display. It should do the same, but removes a
possible source of errors. The log files should be taken _after_ the
screen has gone black if possible. To do that you need to have openssh-
server installed and ssh in from another computer, since it is obviously
hard to do anything with a garbled screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502700] Re: Where Are Contrast And Brightness Adjustments?

2010-01-24 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
This is not something that is currently supported in the driver, and not
something we could implement at the Ubuntu level. You can take a look at
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2010-January/005522.html
and the follow-ups for a look at what may be possible. This first needs
to find its way into Randr or some similar interface, and then the
desktop environments can make a user interface for it. Ubuntu can then
pick this up.

Since this is not something we will be able to anything about in Ubuntu,
I'm going to close this bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496817] Re: xinput no longer works to set-ptr-feedback after the latest Xserver upgrade in Lucid

2010-01-24 Thread Duncan Sands
I'm having the same problem: some device names are not recognized any more, in
my case bcm5974.
As you can see below, xinput list shows this device, and I can manipulate it
using the id (12) but not the
name (bcm5974). I could use the name with karmic, but not since I upgraded
to lucid.

$ xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512010] [NEW] Lucid needs to be run in safe graphics mode on a Radeon Mobility U1 card

2010-01-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I tested one of the later Lucid builds off a live CD (one from
1/22/2010), and in order to get anything to display on the screen, I
need to go into safe graphics mode. otherwise it only has a blank screen
for the entire boot process, and even when it finishes loading, it stays
blank

My laptop is a Compaq presario 2100 with a Radeon Mobility U1 card.

I am reporting this within Karmic as my WiFi card requires additional
drivers. (in case if Launchpad automatically attaches logs this time)

Ubuntu better. Judging from your description, I am going to assign this
bug to the xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd package in hopes that it will
have a faster response. If you believe that I have chosen the wrong
package, please change your bug to the correct one. Good luck on getting
it fixed!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496187] Re: [i855] x freezing often while surfing , mouse still moving

2010-01-24 Thread phran
Yesterday I updated to Brians xserver-xorg-video-intel 5:2.8.1-karmic
and got two freezes again already (using kernel 2.6.31-11).

Also got in my Kernel.log:
 gvfsd-metadata[2008]: segfault at 8 ip 0804d2ea sp bfec7070 error 4 in
gvfsd-metadata[8048000+c000]

Sometimes X crashes when using firefox on some webpages with extensive
scripting - bringing me back to the log in screen. It will always happen on the
same site again. But seems this is an other bug which has to do with the old
kernel. I have been using linux so many years now, but never had so serious
problems as now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 482579] [NEW] apple mouse fails to work

2010-01-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: yelp

I have problems on two different machines with apple mice.

On this machine an Apple Mighty Mouse (wireless) does not respond to left
button mouse clicks on EVERY 5th wakeup from suspend to RAM. (this is anoying
as logout works only with left mouse button).
This issue occured first sometimes after 9.04. It persisted in 9.10

Its reproducable.

On my HP nx8220 a wired Apple Mouse looses the scroll down ability
(scroll up works fine) after suspend to RAM. Irregularly the mouse
refuses to respond all together (only the touch pad works then).

The nx8220 runs on 32bit Ubuntu 9.10 (current patchlevel). This appeared
in 9.10. It cannot be reproduced in 9.04 (i.e. if I go back to earlier
images the problem disappears and appears both on upgrades and fresh
installs).

Positiv that we have to deal with these little issues, negative that
they exist as they touch basic computer functionality.

If you need more information, let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469820] Re: [GM45] system locks up at random intervals, except mouse

2010-01-24 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
xXPenGuiNxx, sorry for not getting back to you before. It looks like the
kernel is an important component to consider for these freezes. Could
you do one of the two things (I would prefer the first option, but the
second option may be easier for you if you are depending on having a
relatively stable system):

1. Upgrade/install Lucid. Then we can verify that the freezes also
happen there. A batchbuffer dump from Lucid with xorg-edgers would be
great. Possibly also with kernel 2.6.33-rc5, but the standard Lucid
kernel should also be okay. Note that if you have space, you may install
Lucid on a separate partition and keep using our Karmic partition if
something goes wrong with Lucid.

2. Install the latest mainine kernel from [1], (see also [2]). Currently
it is v2.6.33-rc5. There may have been fixes in the kernel that stops
the freezes. If not, a batchbuffer dump from running with this kernel
would be great.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 445229] Re: [i945gme] Freeze when switching to an external monitor via hotkey

2010-01-24 Thread Thomas Keene
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 419328 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419328

Yeah, it's definitely not #466539.

#419328 looks similar (the original description is very vague), but
opening Display Preferences does not cause the crash. It's a different
bug.

This bug only freezes the system when I click Apply in Display
Preferences after trying to change which monitor I'm using. Cycling
monitor output with Fn + F5 will also cause a freeze. When frozen, I
will get a black screen and (sometimes) an unresponsive mouse cursor.
There's still hard drive activity and audio, but the freeze is fatal.

It doesn't come up very often, it seems like it only causes a problem
once you've switched back and forth between the external monitor and
laptop's monitor a few times.

I'm using an Acer Aspire One AOD250 netbook, GNOME, Ubuntu Karmic 9.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 437862] Re: device key_bitmask has changed

2010-01-24 Thread Christian Ramseier
The latest available version of evdev still contains the code producing
the bug (http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-evdev /
Version 2.3.2).

However, in this discussion on the xorg mailinglist, the upstream
developers are talking about a patch that will be merged in before

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 364865] Re: System reports error with Nvidia drivers

2010-01-24 Thread karlrhs
There is still a problem unless the main x-org file has been changed on the
cd iso image for Karmic. I do not know if the old 71 nvidia drivers are now
in the repositories or not. I use and old TNT Riva card and it requires the
71 nv drivers. If you can make sure this file is included in the
repositories then someone new to ubuntu would not have to go to the Nvidia
site and install manually. You know a newbe will not do this they will just
drop the Linux CD into the garbage bin.

Thank you.

for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

@karlrhs: nvidia doesn't provide a proper driver for xserver 1.5+.
Therefore the nvidia-graphics-drivers-71 package has been removed from
 Karmic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512132] [NEW] Screen flashing and system freezing

Using live CD alpha 2 - amd64 with or without compiz my screen is flashing on
mouse move or when an application is updating a window.
After a few moments the entire screen comes white, and is not possible to use
the system.
CTRL ALT F1 for example doesn't works. The only solution is ALT GR SYS
RQ B or power off.

I am running Karmic (amd64) without problems.
My system is a HP DV2880 laptop, Core 2 Due with 4Gb RAM and 500Gb of hard-disk.
VGA Controler is an Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 126897] Re: IBM ScrollPoint mouse scrolls vertically VERY fast and has no horizontal scrolling

2010-01-24 Thread Jim Turner
I also am a Linux user who owns 2 IBM Scrollpoint mice and absolutely
love them. I get best results with the ExplorerPS/2 protocol in Xorg.
The vertical scroll works a bit sensitive, but I perceive 3 speed
levels based on how hard you press the stick, but I have NEVER had
horizontal scrolling working! Yes I've tried all the axismapping 4 5 6
7 combinations, which will get xev to report sporatic button 6 and
button 7 presses when you mash the stick left or right just right with
a lot of force, but it appears that a separate protocol driver should be
written based on the ExplorerPS/2 protocol to adjust the timings and
sensitivity of the stick to sort and smooth out the 4 different
directions and sensitivities. If I knew anything about kernel driver
programming, I'd write one myself. I'd be willing to coinsider sending
someone one of these mice if they'd write a good driver for it! The pbm
is definitely an enhancement for the kernel mouse drivers (new protocol)
and is not a bug in either X or the kernel nor confined to any specific
versions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 322396] [NEW] when i connected 2 pads, the second act as a mouse

2010-01-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: bugzilla

I have two PSone pads that i connect to the computer with 2 usb adaptators
(same adaptators).
Before intrepid it was working but now, with intrepid, the first pad is
detected and work well when i connect it,
but when i connect the second, it don't work.
sudo cat /dev/input/js0 give me some caracters when i tip on the first pad
sudo cat /dev/input/js1 give me nothing when i tip on the second pad

The second pad act as the mouse when i tip on the arrows whereas the
first don't.

Some people have to add this to their xorg.conf to fix the problem, i
don't know if it's the good solution.

Section ServerFlags
Option AutoAddDevices False
EndSection

Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

I think a pad haven't to act as a mouse, cause here i can't usemy pad as a pad.

I'm ready to test if necessary :)
Thanks.

2010-01-24 Thread David Tombs
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-input-evdev.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display is black, external monitor too, with frozen mouse coursor

2010-01-24 Thread nanotube
So, what's the current status of this bug? It is marked as a 'fix
released' - does that mean it is coming to the karmic repositories any
time soon?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512186] [NEW] No display on second head RV370 Radeon X300

2010-01-24 Thread Larfalitl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

The card has a VGA port a dual mode DVI port (comes with a DVI - VGA
adapter). With this driver two VGA monitors there is no X display on
the monitor connected to the DVI port (via the adapter).

Using the vesa driver both monitors work in clone mode.

Using the binary driver dual-head works _but_ the drawing package Varkon
won't display surfaces in an openGL window correctly. Which is what I'm
trying to do... Varkon works fine with the radeon driver, but no dual-
head :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512192] [NEW] configuring Elan tech touchpad on Dell Inspiron 11z

2010-01-24 Thread oren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Elantech touch pad can't be configured on Dell Inspiron 11Z which make the
laptop unusable since it's too sensitive.
It seems like Dell mini 10 (not 10v) is also having this issue.

Here is the driver for windows on dell's website:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...D=Inspiron1110

Here is a link to Elan's site - http://www.emc.com.tw/eng/tpn_sp_fun.asp
it say on their site that it's should work with linux.

I found this link - http://arjan.opmeer.net/elantech/
and contacted the guy but got no reply.

Here are two thread about this issue:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 512192] Re: configuring Elan tech touchpad on Dell Inspiron 11z

2010-01-24 Thread Quan-Time
Karmic 9.10 x64 (2.6.31-17-generic) - Asus K7I0C is also effected by
this. Touchpad works, but is identified wrong, thus i dont get any
touchpad special options, such as delay while type which is HUGELY
useful. The Asus EEEpc works, which uses the same hardware, but
obviously a device ID change, so its not detecting properly ?

Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-01-24 Thread Gitty K
I have joined using Brian's ppa since the latest upload (also a Dell
Inspiron 1100) and also haven't had any crashes since. It seems though
that the graphics are sometimes slower, but that's better than the
random crashes.
