[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)
@Geir Lucid is already on the laptop, with lxde and openbox as desktop environments. I can make an image of the installation (so that I can put it back later) and then install Xubuntu-desktop and do some testing. I take it that ideally you'd like batchbuffer dumps from both the standard Ubuntu kernel plus the latest mainline kernel. I hope to have something to report in a day or two, other commitments allowing. :) -- [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511844] [NEW] Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug
Public bug reported: 1) I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 2) xserver-xorg-input-wacom - 0.10.3+20100109-1ubuntu1 3) I expected hotplugging to work properly on more than one plug. 4) It appears that hotplugging only works on the first plug. The tablet works properly as expected during this session, however if I unplug and plug the tablet in again it will not work any longer. After the first plugging in (and unplugging) of my tablet no more information about it is added to my Xorg log. My copy of Lucid has all updates applied as of this posting, no non- standard kernel or X-related packages are installed (no ppas or other repos that would affect this), and the tablet is a Wacom Intuos 2. It actually takes a full reboot for the tablet to be recognized again, restarting the X session isn't enough (this is based on my assumption that the X session completely terminates as it used to on logging out). ** Affects: xf86-input-wacom (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi all, Just in case it helps (even though it looks like the solution today - as I understood it after reading the 187 posts - is to wait for Lucid with the new X.org server) : Environment : Ubuntu AMD64 9.10, 2 Go RAM, NVidia 185, Effects set to Normal, Vino Server I'm accessing it from an Iphone 2G (3.1.2 Jailbreak) through SSH either in Wifi or Edge. Edge is definitely too slow for that : first screen takes about 2 min to appear and no refresh (SSH terminal is very slow but acceptable) Wifi : No refresh of the screen but I still see the mouse pointer move (far from smooth but I see it...). Double-clicking still doesn't work for ubuntu 9.10 and netbeans 6.8. changing in ~/.Xresources fixed it - thanks I now believe that change in /etc/X11/Xresources/X11-common would fix it also. I wonder why it takes several years to change this flag in mouse preferences dialog - may be because /etc/X11 changes things for ALL users and mouse preferences are presumably for ONE user? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408432] Re: [i915] 'xrandr' with no arguments garbles screen
In order to subscribe to the bug report at bugs.freedesktop.org you first need an account. Go to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ and click Open a new FreeDesktop Bugzilla account. Only then can you add your email address to the CC field of the bug report. The logs that I think are useful with all the three kernels are: - the file generated from `dmesg Dmesg.txt` - the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log - the file generated from `lspci -vvnn Lscpi.txt` - the file generated from `sudo intel_reg_dumper Regdump.txt` (You will need one of the packages xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg or intel-gpu-tools for this, depending on the ubuntu version.) I think the best option is if you file a new bug report with the `ubuntu-bug` command, describe exactly what your setup, what you do and what you observe, mention this bug report and upload the files I described above. It is best if you do this with Lucid, which is the current development version of Ubuntu, since there has been a lot of changes since the software that is currently in Karmic was written. And when you test, could you use the command `xrandr` instead of going to System-Preferences-Display. It should do the same, but removes a possible source of errors. The log files should be taken _after_ the screen has gone black if possible. To do that you need to have openssh- server installed and ssh in from another computer, since it is obviously hard to do anything with a garbled screen. -- [i915] 'xrandr' with no arguments garbles screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502700] Re: Where Are Contrast And Brightness Adjustments?
This is not something that is currently supported in the driver, and not something we could implement at the Ubuntu level. You can take a look at http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2010-January/005522.html and the follow-ups for a look at what may be possible. This first needs to find its way into Randr or some similar interface, and then the desktop environments can make a user interface for it. Ubuntu can then pick this up. Since this is not something we will be able to anything about in Ubuntu, I'm going to close this bug report. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Where Are Contrast And Brightness Adjustments? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502700 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 482579] [NEW] apple mouse fails to work
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: yelp I have problems on two different machines with apple mice. On this machine an Apple Mighty Mouse (wireless) does not respond to left button mouse clicks on EVERY 5th wakeup from suspend to RAM. (this is anoying as logout works only with left mouse button). This issue occured first sometimes after 9.04. It persisted in 9.10 Its reproducable. On my HP nx8220 a wired Apple Mouse looses the scroll down ability (scroll up works fine) after suspend to RAM. Irregularly the mouse refuses to respond all together (only the touch pad works then). The nx8220 runs on 32bit Ubuntu 9.10 (current patchlevel). This appeared in 9.10. It cannot be reproduced in 9.04 (i.e. if I go back to earlier images the problem disappears and appears both on upgrades and fresh installs). Positiv that we have to deal with these little issues, negative that they exist as they touch basic computer functionality. If you need more information, let me know. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469820] Re: [GM45] system locks up at random intervals, except mouse
xXPenGuiNxx, sorry for not getting back to you before. It looks like the kernel is an important component to consider for these freezes. Could you do one of the two things (I would prefer the first option, but the second option may be easier for you if you are depending on having a relatively stable system): 1. Upgrade/install Lucid. Then we can verify that the freezes also happen there. A batchbuffer dump from Lucid with xorg-edgers would be great. Possibly also with kernel 2.6.33-rc5, but the standard Lucid kernel should also be okay. Note that if you have space, you may install Lucid on a separate partition and keep using our Karmic partition if something goes wrong with Lucid. 2. Install the latest mainine kernel from [1], (see also [2]). Currently it is v2.6.33-rc5. There may have been fixes in the kernel that stops the freezes. If not, a batchbuffer dump from running with this kernel would be great. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 419328 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419328 Yeah, it's definitely not #466539. #419328 looks similar (the original description is very vague), but opening Display Preferences does not cause the crash. It's a different bug. This bug only freezes the system when I click Apply in Display Preferences after trying to change which monitor I'm using. Cycling monitor output with Fn + F5 will also cause a freeze. When frozen, I will get a black screen and (sometimes) an unresponsive mouse cursor. There's still hard drive activity and audio, but the freeze is fatal. It doesn't come up very often, it seems like it only causes a problem once you've switched back and forth between the external monitor and laptop's monitor a few times. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 364865] Re: System reports error with Nvidia drivers
There is still a problem unless the main x-org file has been changed on the cd iso image for Karmic. I do not know if the old 71 nvidia drivers are now in the repositories or not. I use and old TNT Riva card and it requires the 71 nv drivers. If you can make sure this file is included in the repositories then someone new to ubuntu would not have to go to the Nvidia site and install manually. You know a newbe will not do this they will just drop the Linux CD into the garbage bin. Thank you. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 126897] Re: IBM ScrollPoint mouse scrolls vertically VERY fast and has no horizontal scrolling
I also am a Linux user who owns 2 IBM Scrollpoint mice and absolutely love them. I get best results with the ExplorerPS/2 protocol in Xorg. The vertical scroll works a bit sensitive, but I perceive 3 speed levels based on how hard you press the stick, but I have NEVER had horizontal scrolling working! Yes I've tried all the axismapping 4 5 6 7 combinations, which will get xev to report sporatic button 6 and button 7 presses when you mash the stick left or right just right with a lot of force, but it appears that a separate protocol driver should be written based on the ExplorerPS/2 protocol to adjust the timings and sensitivity of the stick to sort and smooth out the 4 different directions and sensitivities. If I knew anything about kernel driver programming, I'd write one myself. I'd be willing to coinsider sending someone one of these mice if they'd write a good driver for it! The pbm is definitely an enhancement for the kernel mouse drivers (new protocol) and is not a bug in either X or the kernel nor confined to any specific versions. -- IBM ScrollPoint mouse scrolls vertically VERY fast and has no horizontal scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/126897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-input-evdev. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. Karmic 9.10 x64 (2.6.31-17-generic) - Asus K7I0C is also effected by this. Touchpad works, but is identified wrong, thus i dont get any touchpad special options, such as delay while type which is HUGELY useful. The Asus EEEpc works, which uses the same hardware, but obviously a device ID change, so its not detecting properly ?
