[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 516909] Re: [Clarkdale] entire desktop environment locks up in 9.10, i3-530 proc, built-in graphics
Vikram, This problem definitely exists in Lucid Lynx 10.04 Alpha2, desktop amd64 bit version, that I downloaded and tested on 2/9/10. C:\Users\\Downloadsc:\md5sum lucid-desktop-amd64.iso 64c577165a31e761a261a2d5efa53ff8 *lucid-desktop-amd64.iso 64c577165a31e761a261a2d5efa53ff8 *lucid-desktop-amd64.iso from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-2/MD5SUMS They have file dates of 1/13/10-1/14/10. Is there some newer version, or has something changed since 2/9/10 ?? My understanding is that the newer kernel 2.6.33 had fixed the issue, and since Lynx is shipping w/ 2.6.32 --- the problem could possibly be there (and appears to be confirmed w/ my empirical testing) Thanks Keith -- [Clarkdale] entire desktop environment locks up in 9.10, i3-530 proc, built-in graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 516909] Re: [Clarkdale] entire desktop environment locks up in 9.10, i3-530 proc, built-in graphics
Sounds like it's time to get busy backporting. Three different backporting options are currently being discussed on the ubuntu-x mailing list. I hope it is not left to users to fix this by installing a LBM (the third option being discussed), although the idea at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-x/2010-February/000751.html would make this much simpler. BTW, the newly released Lucid package xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu6 will make it easier to debug this issue with kernel 2.6.32 - according to https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-x/2010-February/000762.html it triggers the apport bug info collector when X freezes. Although on second thought, that is probably of limited use, since we now know that the issue is fixed with kernel 2.6.33. There are also a few more Ironlake bug fixes in kernel 2.6.33-rc8 - see http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/testing/ChangeLog-2.6.33-rc8 -- [Clarkdale] entire desktop environment locks up in 9.10, i3-530 proc, built-in graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 426582] Re: (32MB) certain windows drawn garbled when XAA is used
Lucid alpha 2 works well for my COMPAQ EVO N610C, EXCEPT for the notifications which have lines and oddities on them. The System Monitor works well. I can change visual effects perfectly. On Karmic, I had to install sun java (not open java) in order to be able to switch visual effect modes. In Karmic, without sun java, I had to leave the visual effects in normal, if I went to none visual effects, my open office would not be able to show buttons and check boxes correctly. I had to switch to none effects in order to show videos in Karmic in Open Office Impress. Once in none visual effects mode, I'd be trapped there, and could not return to normal without a reinstall. In Lucid alpha 2 I found open office to function normally. So apart from the notifications being messy, Lucid seems to solve my problems with this issue. Attached screenshot of notification issue. ** Attachment added: Lucid alpha 2 notification - compaq evo n610c http://launchpadlibrarian.net/39547259/notification%20under%20alpha%202.png -- (32MB) certain windows drawn garbled when XAA is used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426582 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I can also confirm that in Lucid Alpha 2 this bug is not an issue anymore for Dell Inspiron 5100 with Radeon Mobility 7500. Everything works well including notification pop-ups. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM
Well that's unfortunate. It rejects our theory that X wasn't keeping the window data around and was leaving that up to the graphics card, which may have dropped the data during the resume. So this is really getting close to the we can't support nvidia closed source driver issue, but perhaps Bryce Harrington has some more thoughts. This issue is pretty well outside of the kernel team's expertise at this point. -- [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510004 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Vish, calm down, OK? And may I kindly ask for a more civilized and productive form of discussion? It's OK to disagree among adults, you know? I'm only going by what the project has defined itself as criteria (see comment 19). And you don't seem to follow even your own, privately invented subset of that. Or why did you only hours ago approve a bug in ibus, a package which is very language specific? There is a difference between invalid and wontfix. I understand that none of the three or so bugs I added in the last 24 hours to the papercuts task are going to be accepted. I don't have any particular issue with that. -- German keyboard layout - deadkeys by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73240 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 73240] Re: German keyboard layout - deadkeys by default
@Rolf Leggewie: In case you missed it. :-) since it is a bug affecting only a particular keyboard layout. this bug was invalidated as a papercut. We read through several bugs and if each user starts to re-open bugs [that too within the same day], since they are affected by it. It becomes harder for us. :-( We will never get to responding to other bugs or might not even discover bugs that are really papercuts. Kindly understand. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 73240] Re: German keyboard layout - deadkeys by default
Btw , The Ibus bug affects all users and the default system preferences menu uses the term Ibus preferences which is a design flaw. None of the preferences menu items are to have the ending preferences. Also the whole Ibus is not clear in its functions. Any user can select the option and wonder why they get the error or what Ibus does. That is exactly an example of a papercut. Not sure why you think it is language specific.
