[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup

2010-02-25 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Bill, as you probably have seen I have submitted a bug report with the
batchbuffer dumps at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26746
and added you in the CC field. I think the logs I uploaded are somewhat
inconsistent since they come from different runs and slightly different
versions. Maybe you could grab a batchbuffer dump, dmesg, and Xorg.0.log
from the _same_ run and attach upstream?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522554] Re: Logged out when typing 2 or @

2010-02-25 Thread Graziano
Gosh I have to press the 2 key in my password and I have to login
always twice... Also for me this is the closest description of the
behaviour I have managed to find.

Environment: Ubuntu lucid, NVIDIA OR NV drivers.
Signs: Screen shows distorted pixels on top left.

IF I see a non perfect screen (some key sequence seems to be sent to terminal)
and I press the key 2, the X server restarts. No strange signs on logs
(ending on request).
Second time I always get a perfect gdm login screen and I can login
successfully. Never happens again, even if I logout and login again.

SEEMS some spurious characters coming out from startup are pushed to tty7, and
request a gdm restart AFTER the key 2 pression.
This is mostly an annoyance for me, but for sure can hide something more
serious.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527638] [NEW] Xorg crashes on startup

2010-02-25 Thread obrowny
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I start my computer with autologin, I can use firefox or mines
without any problem. If I check for updates X crashes when I press enter
after entering my password and goes back to GDM. Then if I log in again,
everything works well. While it crashes I see colours like red
blue...and then back to gdm.

It happens with Nvidia drivers and also with Nouveau there is no
difference.

If I connect myself through GDM, it crashes after having entered my
password and comes back to GDM. Then after a second login, everything
works well.

I join the gdm log

Since there, no more compiz crashes after being back in my session. No

Hope this could help.

another bug, I apologize. The symptoms are the same: Slow down the
system especially when using compiz, a dock (in this case the Docky) or
when I see a video on youtube. I also have a laptop with ubuntu 9.10,
compiz and Docky and everything works fine, without slowing down.

There is a link at the page I referred to: http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D. There have been some new kernels since I
wrote it. v2.6.33 just came out and you should test that instead of
v2.6.33-rc4. Also, make sure your Lucid is up-to-date.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 319057] Re: Enable Tapping gets reset when external mouse is attached.

2010-02-25 Thread Dennis van Dok
I'm getting this behaviour as well on Karmic, on a Macbook2,1.

I've not configured the device in xorg.conf and I'm not aware that I had
to do anything special to get it working.

The following steps show the problem:

$ synclient -s -l | grep TapButton
TapButton1  = 1
TapButton2  = 3
TapButton3  = 2

Now run gsynaptics and turn tapping OFF. Close gsynaptics

$ synclient -s -l | grep TapButton
TapButton1  = 0
TapButton2  = 3
TapButton3  = 0

Disconnect/connect external mouse will reset the status:

$ synclient -s -l | grep TapButton
TapButton1  = 1
TapButton2  = 3
TapButton3  = 2

But curiously, If you disable HAL:

# /etc/init.d/hal stop

And repeat the above process, the above phenomenon does not occur. Of course,
disabling HAL is not a good idea.
I'm not sure which settings govern the behaviour of HAL (open the pod bay
doors, HAL); I've tried /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi but it seems
to have no effect.

And finally, one more oddity: only some of the settings are affected,
like VertTwoFingerScroll and TapButton, but not others like MaxTapTime
or AccelFactor.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

2010-02-25 Thread Morten Frisch
Solved my problems (slow maximizing, minimizing resizing) by getting the
newest kernel 2.6.32. Which has 3D support for ATI Radeon HD3xxx and
HD4xxx. Either upgrade your kernel or upgrade Ubuntu to Lucid and ditch
the fglrx driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] Re: [K8M800] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze

2010-02-25 Thread Chase Douglas
@Thomas:

The first thing I would try is removing plymouth. There are some issues
with plymouth that are causing gdm freezes and crashes. By removing that
we can figure out how much of your problems are related to it. After you
have tested without plymouth, if you still have issues we could perform
a git bisect of the ubuntu kernel between -9 and -10 to determine what
changes cause the failure for you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 491210] Re: [i865G] Monitor Resolution limited to 800x600

2010-02-25 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Scott,
  There are several things at play here, I believe. We've moved modesetting
and some other bits over to the kernel so the ability to fix this by modifying
our xorg bits will not likely do anything in Lucid. That is the main impetus
for me asking about the verification on Lucid. The workaround you mention for
earlier versions will likely preclude this from meeting SRU into Karmic, so
this would make the xorg task irrelevant here unless you are telling me that
downgrading xorg on Lucid resolved the problem.

I agree that in some cases it can be standard to add the regression tags
for future releases, but I don't think that should be a blanket
statement. I'd really like to see if this is still an issue in Lucid due
to the changes, so if that would be possible I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

-JFo
