[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Let me see if I understand We have a fixed kernel for i845 that has never successfully booted a machine... The Intel corporate team officially leading the fix have contributed no code since this bug was released in January... All the workarounds proposed involve removing fairly major areas of functionality, and don't seem to work anyway I have an i845 machine and would be happy to perform tests, but is there anything right now worth testing? -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
I think I have the same problem - for me X crashes and even restarting kdm doesn't fix it. Running linux image 2.6.32-22 on a Dell Inspiron mini 10v with an i915. Interestingly enough an Arch linux user reports a fix by starting X later in the boot process http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=94206 It sounds a lot like my issue but not sure how to try similar in ubuntu. I see the same things the Arch linux user does - it drops back to text on vty2 rather than vty7. I've tried the patch and I've tried turning off KMS, none of which help the issue.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 492782] Re: Mouse cursor disappears after restarting screen (xrandr / resume)
I am also bugged with this issue when I suspend to ram and then resume. As in the above reports ctrl+f1, ctrl+f7 fixes the problem as does typing in a text document as well as changing the workspace with ctrl+alt+cursor. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577997] Re: Xorg freeze after switch user applet is invoked
I'm not sure if it's exactly the same bug, but when my X crashes (I have two displays), I can see the mouse pointer jumping violently between the edges of the two screens. I am not using user-switcher - I am just using desktop applications (some terminals, firefox, thunderbird and a touch of java). I can't be 100% sure, but the problem appeared after installing (and rebooting to) the new kernel 2.6.32-22-generic. I have the binary Nvidia drivers, but they haven't been a problem so far. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Interesting link and read as provided by Aether (comment #131). Unfortunately Ubuntu does no longer use inittab and I know to little on how to control the startup order. I know it is controlled by the S and the number following it in the /etc/rcX.d (where X represents the runlevel) that is preceeding the file names. However, it seems to me that the X environment is started from /etc/rcS.d directory and I can not really see when that kicks in. If this is at the end of the boot process my understanding is that X is already started as last. Can someone please confirm and test this (or explain how I can test it) since until now none of the suggested workarounds have provided a stable environment for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 333005] Re: Single leads mostly to double click
@cuchulainmaclugh - thanks for providing that info, but we would like to see it from the original reporter. We may want to send this bug report upstream, but upstream has a hard and fast rule that logs from someone other than the original reporter are not acceptable. The reason for that is that quite often with X.org bug reports, two people may *think* they have the same issue based on commonality of symptoms and/or hardware, but in truth they have separate issues and mixing the report and the files can cause the developers some confusion. If this bug report seems not to be getting attention, I would encourage you to file a new bug report with this data, and simply reference this bug report in your bug description. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Single leads mostly to double click https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/333005 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577997] Re: Xorg freeze after switch user applet is invoked
I've managed to reproduce the same bug on a different PC, running nvidia 96 driver and also having a dual display. The only difference is that I didn't get a stack trace in Xorg.0.log when I killed X. The trigger in all cases has been moving the mouse cursor between the screens (going from one screen to the other). AndyB - can you try to reproduce the issue by either moving the mouse pointer quickly between your screens, or by dragging a window between the two screens? If what I'm seeing is the same bug as what you have, you should have a crash independent of the login switcher... By the way, it seems it's not connected to the kernel update - I tested on systems before and after the update and I reproduced the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 282939] Re: gnusound crashes X session immediately on launch (Affects Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic)
It is somewhat discomforting that an error in gnusound terminates the Gnome session. I looked into this and found that gnusound defines an elaborate signal handler, probably with the intention to save as much of the user's ongoing work as possible. The code is contained in the emergency.c module. Now the last statement in the emergency_sighandler function is a kill(0, original_signo). This propagates the caught signal to all processes in the same process group. A ps -ej command shows that all processes started through a Gnome menu or a Gnome launcher share the same process group, whose number is the process id of the gnome- session process. So when gnusound crashes from a SIGABRT (as in the present case) this signal is propagated to the Gnome session, which accordingly terminates. Presently I neither understand why all processes launched by Gnome share a process group nor why gnusound propagates signals to the whole process group. The combination of these two facts is certainly fatal and undesirable. Somebody who understands this better than I presently do might make a separate bug out of this. -- gnusound crashes X session immediately on launch (Affects Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462791] Re: Support Missing from Fujistu Stylistic ST50XX Wacom on Ubuntu 9.10
Sorry Bryce not had much time to reply of late due to some family commitments, I can confirm this appears to be fully resolved in 10.04lts (I'm replying from it now) - OnBoard works very well at login and locked screen so very pleased, overall a huge step forward. Only pain now is I had to add i925.modeset=1 to grub for the 845intel graphics which caught me off guard at first - and sometimes when waking from suspend the stylus acts like I'm holding down a function button which can be a real pain as that's unrecoverable as far as I can tell without fully restarting X. Aside from minor issues it's a huge step forward and is now fully usable as an undocked pentablet, if I can be of any further help please let me know From: Bryce Harrington br...@bryceharrington.org To: cpjam...@yahoo.co.uk Sent: Fri, 4 June, 2010 15:04:53 Subject: [Bug 462791] Re: Support Missing from Fujistu Stylistic ST50XX Wacom on Ubuntu 9.10 We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560570] Re: fglrx fails to identify attached monitor, displays blank screen
Hi, I have what looks to be exactly the same problem with 10.04 and an Saphire 5450 (512 DD3 model) as Manuel. The card is working fine under Windoze. Maybe just a coincidence but I also have an HP Pavilion with a Hermatite motherboard. May not be so surprising as I think many opt to put these cards into the HP slimlines. As with the first poster, hangs on the splash screen. I have tried different monitors but to no avail. I couldn't get this HW config to work in Karmic either. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
I had 3 freezes yesterday. In each case the last entry in kern.log was: do_IRQ: 0.189 No irq handler for vector (irq -1) (Sometimes the number is 0.175, 0.177). (Interestingly, there have been no instances of the BUG: CPU soft lockup messages in the last two days. I ran a memory test overnight and it was clean. I also tested kernel 2.6.31-02063112-generic, 2.6.34-020634-generic, 2.6.35-020635rc1-generic today. All of these froze. In exasperation, I booted this morning with noapic nolapic acpi=off on the grub kernel parameters with current 2.6.32-22-generic. This disables all power management (as I understand it), such that my system is running full-out all the time. The system has been running solid ever since. Even with torture testing it with a DVD rip in Handbrake, Virtualbox, MythTV recording and commercial flagging, an h264 transcode, and Amarok playing all running simultaneously. The DVD rip alone would have been enough to lock the system up within a few minutes without noapic nolapic acpi=off. This is not desirable work-around, or a long-term solution, but it at least lets me work for the moment, and allows me to continue helping debug rather than reverting back to karmic. To re-iterated: this system has been working fine for over a year with karmic and jaunty, with power management. This is a regression with Lucid, and the issue is present with upstream kernels as well. It would be very nice if someone could assign a more appropriate High Priority to this issue and we could get some attention from some devs before this bug report becomes a confused with too many un-related freezes. -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 590242] [NEW] Keyboard doesn't work under X11 on Thinkpad X100e when on battery power
Public bug reported: The keyboard and mouse do not respond on Thinkpad X100e when on battery power, same issue when booting off battery or unplugging AC inside X11. If I shutdown gdm and plug AC power at console keyboard works fine. I suspect this is something in the Xorg input modules. This worked under previously under 9.10, but fails under 10.04.
