[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585685] Re: Logout after switch user causes black screen and disables keyboard and mouse
I would say that this brings Nvidia 96 driver to the top of the list as the likely culprit. I do not have to do any user switching at all. Just a logout from the intitial session (kde or fluxbox), passing control back to KDM will cause the issue. Xorg.log does not contain any indication of what the issue is (at least at normal debugging levels). To clarify the Xorg shutdown step I did it through top using SIGKILL 9, Default SIGTERM 15 would not take it out. I assume that sudo kill -9 pid would work equally well. I have another 10.04 system running the Nvidia 195.36.24 drivers and there are no issues. -- Logout after switch user causes black screen and disables keyboard and mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585685 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585685] Re: Logout after switch user causes black screen and disables keyboard and mouse
Well, I just went to shut that system down and the bug is back. Currently running the Nouveau driver. This time there is no high CPU use. I did not have to kill Xorg but I did sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart to get my screen back. So it is some issue with the logout transition. I can help test more tomorrow if needed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393129] Re: Corrupt screen, HP Brio, Matrox G100 (display: NEC LCD1860NX and others)
No response from Bryce, so today I attempted installation of this week's build of Debian 'testing'. Had to abandon that, due to a partitioning problem (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=583592), may retry when this is fixed. Instead installed Debian 'stable' (Lenny). No video corruption, but resolution is only 832x624, and this is the highest resolution offered in screen prefs dialog. File /etc/X11/xorg.conf exists but has little in it, i.e. device, monitor, and screen are all of the form Configured [whatever] (attached). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591656] [NEW] scrolling issues using touchpad
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1. When I move my finger from the left to right side and (accidentally) touching the scrolling area (on the right side) on the touchpad, the cursor jumps to the far right of the screen. This only happens when I'm moving my finger into the scrolling area, a single (or double) tap in the scrolling area doesn't do anything. 2. This concerns 'continuous scrolling' (I think it's called). First: in 9.10 I hadn't continuous scrolling activated (by default?), in 10.04 it is. But this isn't the issue. To do a continuous scrolling you do a long stroke up or down, and it continuous to scroll up or down. The problem is that it seems to continue to scroll until a tap/click is made. This often results in a in or out zooming of webpages in chrome, e.g. First I scroll down a page, then I scroll up. And everything is fine. But when I am about to enter a different web address, using CTRL+L, the page zooms in (CTRL+scroll) continuously. or in Compiz desktop zoom: I've just scrolled up a page in Chrome and I'm going use the Scale function (Super+Tab). As soon as I'm pressing the Super button, Compiz zooms in. Now, 1 and 2 are on one hand two different issues but since they both occurred after I upgraded to 10.04 and that I can't figure out how to change these behaviours, I'm filing them as one bug. Maybe there is a way of fixing this with udev rules or something, but I don't know how to do that. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
I mentioned in a previous entry (#43), my HP desktop needed a check-up by my hardware consultant due to the many hard resets. Currently, the machine runs on its original OS Windows Vista without any problem and without any replacements needed. Discussing the issue with this consultant and others, we noticed that a problem with the heat control could explain the behaviour observed. (so ACPI). Running the program SpeedFan on Vista did not show a problem, however. So Vista is better than Linux for my HP (oops, never thought I would be able to write that down) It could be a wild speculation, but I am suspicious about the transition from kernel 2.6.31 and 2,6.32 regarding the ACPI code of the kernel. I have the following arguments: a) booting with acpi=off helps as mentioned a.o. by databubble (see item #39) b) There is a variety of failures mentioned by different people, (with or without mouse, keyboard, wireless , heavy graphics load, etc etc). The different computers, different hardware configurations could explain why this variety is occurring, but heat problems may explain the failures of peripherals and kernel. c) Still looking into the changes made, but apparently a lot has been changed with the introduction of 2.6.32 regarding power control and speedup during booting. Regression testing not rigorously enough for all hardware? For the record my computer is a HP m8000, without ability to control the ACPI on the bios (setting S1 or S3 for instance). I cannot afford to install Ubuntu Lucid with 2.6.32 at this moment, I will install a Linux (OpenSuse, Mandriva, Ubuntu 9.10) with 2.6.31 or even older kernel. -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

where is the file to ? (the added option) GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=splash acpi=off this is on grub? very quiet here this maybe the developers gave up on solving this bug ... We do not see them talking about retries already a few days .. or realized that the solution involves something that one can not fight, such as the regression they spoke, I again ask why they do not make a clone of the kernel with such regression, ONLY to us that uses 855? perhaps this is simply for who knows how to do? I know it does not and the real solution .. but that would put us right back to work until that in the future ,this Bug can be solve!! and if possible, would only put him in the repository that anyone could install it and everything would be solved (for now) that would allow time so that they could think of a better solution, I ask this because really NEED UBUNTU to work .. .. -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau This bug is on Maverick but i am unable to use Maverick i filed it using Lucid. After kernel selection the monitor shuts off with the message Monitor will shut down in 5sec or something close to that if not exactly. it is the same message if the monitor was left on when shutting down PC. Not sure if it is the kernel, Plymouth or the nouveau drivers. This is using the daily ISO from 06/4/2010. I have tried upgrading as well and i am unable to use Maverick for same reason. The last time i upgraded was 06/06/2010. Steps to reproduce: 1. Download and burn daily alternative image from 06/04/2010 2. Install 3. Reboot to finish installation 4. Choose Maverick kernel from Grub2 5. Find the monitor message What i expect to happen: After reboot I should be able to boot into at the very least end up into TTY or low graphics mode I have to Nvidia cards and i tried both. I have Nvidia 6200 that i use all the time, and a 5200 that i use when 6200 fails like in this bug. I use Apport so you get at least some system Info. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal ) : sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get update Then try performing the update again. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 512192 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/512192 Hi, I'm seeing the same issue. Im running Ubuntu 9.10 (kernel version: 2.6.31-22-generic) on an ASUS K60I laptop. It doesn't recognize the touchpad at all. I've tried applying the patch listed above by following the very thorough instructions provided by AllurGroceries (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9175201#post9175201) The problem I have is that when I get to step 5, in my kernel src/drivers/input/mouse directory I dont have an elantech.c file. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591798] [NEW] xserver-xorg-core fails to upgrade in maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg First of all, let me apologize for reporting what is probably both a temporary and well-known problem in Maverick, which I realize is still Alpha. Background: as I'm sure you know, the 2.6.35 generic kernel does not work because the xserver-xorg does not start. So I boot into the last 34 kernel, which works fine. And I just aptitude updated. Changes to xserver have been released but do not install, at least when running the 34 kernel. The following packages have unmet dependencies: xserver-xorg-core: Breaks: xserver-xorg-input-7 which is a virtual package. Breaks: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (= 1:12.6.5-4ubuntu2) but 1:12.6.5-4ubuntu2 is installed and it is kept back. Breaks: xserver-xorg-video-6 which is a virtual package. Unable to resolve dependencies! Giving up... I am reporting this partially because I have nvidia, even though I am not using the proprietary drivers at this time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 542357] Re: upgrade from karmic to lucid: gui is crashing on login
I also got this Bug. Fresh install of 9.04 in a VM under ESX 3.5, then upgrade to 10.04. gdm kept crashing until I renamed /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 to /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6-old so it is no longer used. Thus I can confirm the workaround in comment #10 as working. -- upgrade from karmic to lucid: gui is crashing on login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/542357 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is a direct subscriber. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588027] Re: [arrandale] Xserver occasionally crashes with Intel mobile graphics (i5-430M CPU)
Now I had yet another crash directly when switching to a virtual terminal using [ctrl]+[alt]+[F1]. I've attached a tarball with the log files again. I remember that I had a similar crash when switching to a virtual terminal several weeks before (with the standard 2.6.32 kernel from lucid), but I didn't report it back then. I've also tried switching to a virtual terminal and back to X again 100 times using chvt in a loop but I couldn't reproduce the crash this way. Is there anything I can do to make the xserver more stable at the moment? Since I regularly use virtualization and every xserver crash kills all running virtual machines without any possibility to save data or cleanly shut down the guest operating system, there is a significant probability of data loss. Last week I had some badly corrupted files in one guest system and I suspect that this was caused by one of this crashes. I have already disabled compiz, but this doesn't seam to help at all. ** Attachment added: Log files of crash when switching to virtual terminal http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50023290/vt_crash.tar.bz2 -- [arrandale] Xserver occasionally crashes with Intel mobile graphics (i5-430M CPU) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591929] [NEW] Dell Latitude E4310 Dual Monitors freezing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have installed Lucid on E4310 and everything works fine. Now I'm trying to connect dual FullHD Dell screens via a docking station's DVI ports. First of all, if I boot the laptop while plugged into the dock, it just freezes as outlined below. If I first boot it and then plug into the dock, the following happens: in the System-Preferences-Monitor I can see 3 panels available: laptop LCD and two Dell monitors(those are off). However, when I try to disable e4310's panel and enable two Dell monitors, all screens just go blank and system completely freezes up. No SSH/Cltr+alt+bkspc/Cltr+alt+F1 possible. Also that is not a kernel panic as no keyboard lights are blinking. However everything works if I only enable the laptop's LCD and only one of the Dell monitors. I Have also tried disabling the laptop panel prior to enabling the second Dell monitor via lxrandr It allows me to completely disable the built-in panel(leaving just one DVI Dell running) but then as soon as I enable the second Dell, eveything just freezes the same way. Also after hours of fighting with this, I discovered that the problem doesn't happen if I boot the liveCD. I'm able to enable both DVI monitors on it just fine.
