[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574152] Re: 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding
Completely unsolicited advice as I was searching for another bug: what's /etc/nsswitch.conf look like? What happens if you change the hosts line to hosts: files dns? and change passwd, group and shadow all to compat alone? The symptoms you describe are identical to what I experienced a few years ago with a broken /etc/nsswitch.conf--the file had some questionable settings involving Kerberos and LDAP. -- 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574152 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg-server. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574069] Re: [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance
I agree with u Chauncellor. This is suppose to be a constructive to help with this issue. Again i'm sorry I did vent my frustration about another regression that made me somewhat agitated within this bug report. Don't really see why the 80% cross platform code should be a problem besides it's being proprietary. In fact, this is the reason why it's performing like it does. I do love the nouveau initiative, but it's just not there yet. I do agree nvidia doesn't support new developments very well, but this issue isn't a nvidia only problem. The problem is not that nvidia launched a new driver which broke things. The problem is something else changed causing this behavior. It all worked fine before with the same drivers. This could be new development which nvidia lacks to support, but it could be very well another problem entirely. This issue should have been picked up immediately when it was posted. But till this day it's still not being worked on while it affects a large group of user. That's the only reason why I got somewhat frustrated about it. Users don't care if it's proprietary or not, but do care if it works, especially since it worked fine before. Again your absolutely right and I'll try to be more constructive in the future.. -- [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 609097] [NEW] X crash during browsing
Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with all updates on an acer TravelMate 660 including Intel 82852/855GM graphics. I'm experiencing repeated crashes of the display/X. I have seen the problem during the past months (since I installed 10.4, in 8.4 there were no problems) and I think always while browsing the same web-page (www.dn.se - a major Swedish newspaper). Browsing other web pages works without problems. What happens is that the screen goes mostly black, only containing some traces of the boot-log messages and then after some flashing a dialog appears that gives me some action alternatives; I have found none that really helps except run screen in low-resolution mode that takes me back to the login screen and then runs Ubuntu with the same resolution/colors but with decreased graphics performance (e.g. Dreamchess cursor becomes painfully slow). I did have some trouble during installation from the Desktop CD; the graphics wasn't detected correctly so I had to pull some tweaks found on the Ubuntu forum (I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what I did) to get things working. Xorg version: 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 Firefox version: 3.6.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 I'm reporting this now to get a bug number; I will try using apport to append information the next time the bug appears. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- X crash during browsing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/609097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574069] Re: [Lucid] Loading nvidia-settings hurts compiz performance
Firstly: Can someone confirm if post 13 is on to something with the libgnome-window-settings problem? Secondly: Can someone see if updating the drivers works? It's up to version 256.35 right now. Thirdly: Can someone see if updating Compiz works? It's up to version 0.8.6 right now (Ubuntu is still on 0.8.4). I hear that 0.9 is on the way with major changes. Maybe snagging a beta could help as well. I would do it myself (and would have long ago) but I have absolutely minimal internet (very limited dial-up). I'm sorry but I cannot test. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 609372] [NEW] Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML graphics corruption after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel ** Bug Description ** After resuming from suspend, I eventually experience some graphics corruption. It seems to occur only once after each resume from suspend. So far it has happened in Firefox (on the middle of a web page) and the terminal (see attached screenshot). If I scroll up or down in the window containing the corruption, the corrupted area scrolls with the rest of the window contents. I currently have Compiz enabled, so I will test with Compiz disabled and see if that makes any difference. On first glance, this bug seems similar to bug #599873, but the screen corruption I experience is very different from the screenshot posted in that bug. ** My System ** PC: HP Pavilion dv1550se laptop CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz RAM: 1GB DDR400 Video: Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller Sound: 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller OS: Ubuntu 10.04 i386 w/ all updates as of 7/23/2010 (including 2.6.32-23-generic kernel) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-23.37-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-23-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Jul 23 21:06:23 2010 DkmsStatus: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100429) Lsusb: Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv1000 (EP347UA#ABA) PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-23-generic root=UUID=51cc4e12-8052-4b5d-814a-693938c1bb02 ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-intel dmi.bios.date: 03/23/2006 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: F.22 dmi.board.name: 308F dmi.board.vendor: Quanta dmi.board.version: 46.13 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Quanta dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvrF.22:bd03/23/2006:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPPaviliondv1000(EP347UA#ABA):pvrRev1:rvnQuanta:rn308F:rvr46.13:cvnQuanta:ct10:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: HP Pavilion dv1000 (EP347UA#ABA) dmi.product.version: Rev 1 dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-23-generic ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML graphics corruption after resume from suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/609372 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
