[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 647917] [NEW] gnome-sensors applet panel icon visually glitched

2010-09-26 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10

2) apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-radeon
xserver-xorg-video-radeon:
  Installed: 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5
  Candidate: 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What is expected to happen is when one restarts the computer, the
panel icons do not become visually glitched.

4) What happened instead is it is visually glitched (please see
screenshot.png). Thank you for looking at this. I am new to Ubuntu
Linux, and do not yet have the skills to contribute a solution. Just
wanted to bring this to your attention, no big deal. If anything more
exists that you require please do not hesitate to ask.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638372] Re: brightness of notebook screen is reset after screensaver

2010-09-26 Thread JR
I don't think this is a bug of the radeon/ati driver, because since some
days I'm using fglrx but the problem still exists. so I assume it's a
KDE bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes

2010-09-26 Thread Sean
I also have random freezes in 10.04 and 10.10 with the following symptoms:
The screen freezes, I can move my mouse but clicks do not register.
No keyboard (capslock or numluck response).
All logs show nothing related to this freeze.

When I installed the propietary drivers the problem dissapears.
So it must be related to the nouveau drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648135] [NEW] TrackPoint wheel emulation lost on suspend/resume

2010-09-26 Thread Håvard H . Garnes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have a Thinkpad T60p, and on suspend/resume the scrollwheel emulation
on my trackpoint is lost. I am able to restore it by doing

xinput set-int-prop TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint Evdev Wheel Emulation Button 8 2
xinput set-int-prop TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint Evdev Wheel Emulation Timeout 8
200

but if I insert that into for example /etc/acpi/resume.d
/01scrollwheel_emulation-restart.sh it does not work at all.

The checkbox for scrollwheel emulation is checked in GPointing Device
Settings, and un-and-re checking it does not help. Restarting X also
helps.

@stevenwr38. I know your comments wasn't for me. I tried what u said, purged
the fglrx debs, and unistalled, followed #14, absolutely no errors,
installed the debs, and did sudo aticonfig --initial, rebooted, computer
came up, checked again cache folder empty, then ran the updates, updates
install successfully, reboot, computer gets stuck at black screen and loud
fan. Rebooted in failsafe, used ppa-purge, got rid of the .78 purged the
files, cleaned cache both manually, and with ubuntu tweak, then with
bleachbit, reconfigured the .73, works ok, but just laggy, glxgears got me
at only 4k frames per seconds.. then tried it all over again, #14, installed
the debs, sudo aticonfig --initial, reboot, readded x-swat repo, ran
upgrade, files install successfully, ran aticonfig --initial, failed, ran
ati-config --force --initial failed as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648299] [NEW] [i965gm] GPU lockup a37135ff (EIR: 0x00000010)

2010-09-26 Thread Stephan Peijnik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Seems to have been caused by running vbetool vgamode on tty1 whilst gdm
was waiting for me to log in. Screen went black, system was still
responsive though (I could still restart the system by doing sudo reboot
and typing my password blindly).

Switching ttys didn't help either by the way, screen was still blank.

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu Maverick beta (trying since alpha 1) gives still a black screen on my
Dell 6510 with Intel HD Graphics Arrendale

Tried to use ppa:xorg-edgers but this gave no solution

downgraded to vanilla 10.10 beta to issue this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643720] [NEW] System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts does not remember CTRL+;

2010-09-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I use the following shortcuts to switch to Workspaces:

Switch to workspace 1: CTRL+,
Switch to workspace 2: CTRL+.
Switch to workspace 3: CTRL+;

Whenever I reboot, *only* the third shortcut does not work.
However, it is still shown in the Keyboard Shortcuts menu.
I then set to another key and reset to CTRL+; it works until the next reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648349] [NEW] skype and other qt applications crashing x

2010-09-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This problem started somewhat randomly after an update to several
packages. I reported a similar bug before, but then it seemed to fix
itself. Now it's back to the same trouble again.

I cannot log into skype on any desktop enviroment or stand alone window
manager, and I cannot log into kde. I don't know where the problem is
coming from. All I know is that in my log it says connection reset by
peer for every other application. I get logged out and have to log in
again.

Not sure if anyone else knows about this bug, but I have not been able
to find any solutions so far.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 642518] Re: [MASTER] package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: Kernel fix for CVE-2010-3081 breaks fglrx

2010-09-26 Thread stevenwr38
x-swat driver is not ready to be used for the ati card at this time. find a
point that works and stick with it for now..
Ive got x-swat disabled for now.

Your mobility ati could be another issue that the Ubuntu team need to
deal with if the 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 driver is working and glx gears is
showing 4k much better then what i was getting i was showing 350fps
after the 8.723 with no issues then after the 8.78 driver update it went
10-15kfps every 5 seconds.but that could be the dirrence in the
computers with mobility and full scale card.

if your hitting a brick wall after the 8.78 update leave it at the 8.723
for now till they get the issue resolved..

I didnt hit the black screen till i updated to the x-swat driver and i had to
fix it by doing everything rescue dropped to root prompt with networking. that
was a pain but at least i got it straight. One thing to attempt still is purge
the repo drivers then install the x-swat to see if it works post 14 will not
update after this error is developed infact your lucky to get anything to work
till the purge is done.
If you get any dependacy issues then
sudo apt-get install
after the dendancy notice is given and it will backtrace to whats needed and
install it from what ive seen once already.
Also if your useing kdm and kde4.5 32bit your gonna have problems im not sure
what OP SYS youre useing if your on lucid ubuntu then there again could be the
diffrence of Mobility and Standard gpu

Any of the dev team checked the 2:8.78 -0ubuntu5 driver on a mobility gpu yet?
Im not a developer but i do like troubleshooting and see what works i just dont
have a mobility laptop to test with mines an intell :-/ machine

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648401] [NEW] mesa-utils still referenced by packages

2010-09-26 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

in the 7.9~git20100909-0ubuntu1 changelog I read:

  * Remove all references to mesa-utils now that its no longer shipped
with the mesa source.

but according to http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/NBS/mesa-
utils a lot of packages stull depend on it:

-- maverick/universe amd64 deps on mesa-utils:
fusion-icon
gnome-shell
-- maverick/universe i386 deps on mesa-utils:
fusion-icon
gnome-shell
-- maverick/universe armel deps on mesa-utils:
fusion-icon
gnome-shell
-- maverick/universe powerpc deps on mesa-utils:
fusion-icon
gnome-shell
-- maverick/multiverse amd64 deps on mesa-utils:
playonlinux
-- maverick/multiverse i386 deps on mesa-utils:
playonlinux
-- maverick/multiverse armel deps on mesa-utils:
playonlinux
-- maverick/multiverse powerpc deps on mesa-utils:
playonlinux

this should be fixed for maverick, option for maverick-updates

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643118] Re: [RV350] Desk top corruption – Screen only shows vertical band s

2010-09-26 Thread crjackson
I never could get the system to boot again and ended up reinstalling the
BETA. I started installing the updates a couple at a time and found
that 1 of the 4 packages are responsible. Can you tell me how to narrow
it down to 1, and take the appropriate steps to get it fixed?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 201032] Re: DPI not set or incorrectly set to 96

2010-09-26 Thread H.i.M
I can confirm this bug too
Using Dell Latitude E6400 14.1, 1440*900, intel drivers, Kubuntu 10.04
DPI shoud be about 120

Wrong Monitor dimensions detected.

$ xdpyinfo | grep dimensions
  dimensions:1440x900 pixels (381x238 millimeters)

shoud be about 306x190 millimeters. I have to manually set it:
$ xrandr --dpi 120

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

2010-09-26 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I'm no longer waiting on more information here; just the GTT patch to
get re-worked in such a way that it could be accepted to the mainline
kernel.

You can re-enable the intel driver in Maverick with the instructions
here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Mavericki8xxStatus

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Confirmed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 647461] Re: Xorg freeze with fglrx driver update

2010-09-26 Thread Simon
why is the x-swat/x-updates ppa offering to install a maverick package
on lucid?

$ apt-cache policy fglrx
fglrx:
  Installed: 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5

I had to force the version back to the old one from lucid-updates this
morning before I could use my system properly...

What happened to the correct lucid version that was installed on Friday
and which meant I could see the plymouth splash for the first time since
buying this laptop (Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series)?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377929] Re: Unable to set rotation on AMD Geode LX800

2010-09-26 Thread Hunk Cui
Hi, all,
Inverted rotation issue (icon and glyph missing and desktop Corruption
phenomenon), it was tested by Frank and Mitch, also I have made a lot of
testing (e g: change the Graphic memory in BIOS, long time to do the inverted
rotation and then click the icon/button, change the display resolution, open
the website, the Patch has supported x-server 1.6/1.7/1.8/1.9, running on
ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 12 platform etc), the feedback is well.
About this patch, since the scratch pixmap header will be re-used after
allocation, we need to clear its buffer object attachment when we stop using
it, otherwise a later user will use a bogus buffer object. In addition, the
pitch values also need to recalculate in lx_crtc_mode_set function, it is a
line size, otherwise, the desktop will occur corruption.
The commit is on
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-geode/commit/?id=74e28b83d5b725a134aad264771a7c9a4d0e38df
, any feedback, please told me.
It is focus on Ubuntu Bugzilla #377929 Debian Bugzilla #512020.

Thanks,
Hunk Cui

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Lucid 10.04 live-CD login failure, Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid

2010-09-26 Thread Peter Belew
(See comment #142 for current version and boot problem information). I
am able to boot from the live CD in text mode, and eventually get X to
start, as follows:

Boot live CD
Hit ESC when the first welcome screen appears
When a screen with boot choices appears, first select the language (English)
and then hit F6
Hit ESC to cancel the menu which pops up, and the boot command line appears.
Use backspace to remove silent splash -- from the end of the line, then enter
 -- text, and hit return.
The system will (usually) boot, showing a login prompt after a while.

At this point, I create passwords for 'ubuntu' and 'root' (for
convenience) and use apt-get to install 'openssh-server', so I can
access the system over my Ethernet if necessary (and I found it to be
necessary)

I then copied an xorg.conf file from the Debian Lenny installation on
this machine, and ran 'gdm start' as root.

PROBLEM: using ctl-alt-F3 (for example) to get a text screen results in
a screen which is virtually unusable, with huge text characters. It is
possible to use F7 to restore the X display.

I have attached the xorg.conf file and Xorg.0.log* .

I am actually sending this from Firefox on the booted 10.10 system.

Summary at this point: Booting from the live CD is very difficult but
possible by an expert, but F1..F6 text mode selection does not work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600293] Re: font corruption on intel g41

2010-09-26 Thread Jamie Dimmel
This has happened to me twice today. Both times it seemed to start while
in Firefox, but switching to other programs or closing them just seemed
to 'spread' the corruption to the entire desktop. Tried closing and
restarting apps, going into Gnome Appearance and changing fonts,
switching to Virtual Terminal and back; only fix was to restart X or
computer.

This is on a Dell Inspiron 1420, with Intel video, running Ubuntu 10.04,
with all updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 631412] Re: [maverick] - Xorg fails to load with nomodeset kernel parameter

2010-09-26 Thread Nizamov Shawkat
This bug is likely to be not fixed anytime soon.

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14216

Comment #43 From Zhang Rui 2010-09-27 01:18:54

we have several bug reports that ACPI video driver controls the backlight
correctly, but the backlight fails to change after evaluating the AML code.
We have no idea what is going wrong here, and how to fix it.
A alternative way is to disable ACPI video driver and control the backlight in
other ways, like, platform specific control methods, the legacy PCI register,
etc.
