[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
I also have random freezes in 10.04 and 10.10 with the following symptoms: The screen freezes, I can move my mouse but clicks do not register. No keyboard (capslock or numluck response). All logs show nothing related to this freeze. When I installed the propietary drivers the problem dissapears. So it must be related to the nouveau drivers. -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You have been subscribed to a public bug: This problem started somewhat randomly after an update to several packages. I reported a similar bug before, but then it seemed to fix itself. Now it's back to the same trouble again. I cannot log into skype on any desktop enviroment or stand alone window manager, and I cannot log into kde. I don't know where the problem is coming from. All I know is that in my log it says connection reset by peer for every other application. I get logged out and have to log in again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 642518] Re: [MASTER] package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: Kernel fix for CVE-2010-3081 breaks fglrx
x-swat driver is not ready to be used for the ati card at this time. find a point that works and stick with it for now.. Ive got x-swat disabled for now. Your mobility ati could be another issue that the Ubuntu team need to deal with if the 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 driver is working and glx gears is showing 4k much better then what i was getting i was showing 350fps after the 8.723 with no issues then after the 8.78 driver update it went 10-15kfps every 5 seconds.but that could be the dirrence in the computers with mobility and full scale card. if your hitting a brick wall after the 8.78 update leave it at the 8.723 for now till they get the issue resolved.. I didnt hit the black screen till i updated to the x-swat driver and i had to fix it by doing everything rescue dropped to root prompt with networking. that was a pain but at least i got it straight. One thing to attempt still is purge the repo drivers then install the x-swat to see if it works post 14 will not update after this error is developed infact your lucky to get anything to work till the purge is done. If you get any dependacy issues then sudo apt-get install after the dendancy notice is given and it will backtrace to whats needed and install it from what ive seen once already. Also if your useing kdm and kde4.5 32bit your gonna have problems im not sure what OP SYS youre useing if your on lucid ubuntu then there again could be the diffrence of Mobility and Standard gpu Any of the dev team checked the 2:8.78 -0ubuntu5 driver on a mobility gpu yet? Im not a developer but i do like troubleshooting and see what works i just dont have a mobility laptop to test with mines an intell :-/ machine -- [MASTER] package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: Kernel fix for CVE-2010-3081 breaks fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/642518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377929] Re: Unable to set rotation on AMD Geode LX800
Hi, all, Inverted rotation issue (icon and glyph missing and desktop Corruption phenomenon), it was tested by Frank and Mitch, also I have made a lot of testing (e g: change the Graphic memory in BIOS, long time to do the inverted rotation and then click the icon/button, change the display resolution, open the website, the Patch has supported x-server 1.6/1.7/1.8/1.9, running on ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 12 platform etc), the feedback is well. About this patch, since the scratch pixmap header will be re-used after allocation, we need to clear its buffer object attachment when we stop using it, otherwise a later user will use a bogus buffer object. In addition, the pitch values also need to recalculate in lx_crtc_mode_set function, it is a line size, otherwise, the desktop will occur corruption. The commit is on http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-geode/commit/?id=74e28b83d5b725a134aad264771a7c9a4d0e38df , any feedback, please told me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Lucid 10.04 live-CD login failure, Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid
(See comment #142 for current version and boot problem information). I am able to boot from the live CD in text mode, and eventually get X to start, as follows: Boot live CD Hit ESC when the first welcome screen appears When a screen with boot choices appears, first select the language (English) and then hit F6 Hit ESC to cancel the menu which pops up, and the boot command line appears. Use backspace to remove silent splash -- from the end of the line, then enter -- text, and hit return. The system will (usually) boot, showing a login prompt after a while. At this point, I create passwords for 'ubuntu' and 'root' (for convenience) and use apt-get to install 'openssh-server', so I can access the system over my Ethernet if necessary (and I found it to be necessary) I then copied an xorg.conf file from the Debian Lenny installation on this machine, and ran 'gdm start' as root. PROBLEM: using ctl-alt-F3 (for example) to get a text screen results in a screen which is virtually unusable, with huge text characters. It is possible to use F7 to restore the X display. I have attached the xorg.conf file and Xorg.0.log* . I am actually sending this from Firefox on the booted 10.10 system. Summary at this point: Booting from the live CD is very difficult but possible by an expert, but F1..F6 text mode selection does not work. ** Attachment added: xorg.conf Xorg.0.log Xorg.0.log.old https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/495553/+attachment/1641534/+files/xorgstuff.tar ** Summary changed: - [K8M800] Lucid 10.04 live-CD login failure, Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid + [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid -- [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This bug is likely to be not fixed anytime soon. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14216 Comment #43 From Zhang Rui 2010-09-27 01:18:54 we have several bug reports that ACPI video driver controls the backlight correctly, but the backlight fails to change after evaluating the AML code. We have no idea what is going wrong here, and how to fix it. A alternative way is to disable ACPI video driver and control the backlight in other ways, like, platform specific control methods, the legacy PCI register, etc. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #14216 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14216 -- [maverick] - Xorg fails to load with nomodeset kernel parameter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/631412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
