[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660980] [NEW] Incorrect dual display behaviour
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg using ubuntu 10.10 on the hardware as attached by apport. Normally in 10.04 when I did dual display it worked fine. Now the display is detected fine, but I cannot move any of the windows to the external display. However i can move few pixels of them, they can be seen on the left edge, like just a small piece of them. My workaround is to move the external display below the main display, then it works. I assume it can be some problem with virtual resolution ? The external display is LG 24, 1900x1200 resolution. Mirror works perectly fine, the problem is only with the dual head. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657976] Re: [Intel GMA 945/950] Unity Interface Is Extremely Slow (Ubuntu Netbook 10.10)
Hi everyone - I'm one of the devs that have spent extensive time chasing this slowness issue. I assure you I can relate to your disappointment over a sluggish system. It's buggering me a lot as well. The problem is that on some systems Unity runs perfectly fast (for instance on my Eee 1001, intel 945GME, Atom N270, which is definitely *not* a high end netbook by today's standards - on the contrary :-)), while on other systems (also with much higher specs) it runs very slowly. This makes it pretty tricky to debug if you don't have the right hardware as you can imagine. So; any thoughts, tinkering, playing around, or hardcore profiling you guys do are most appreciated! While I can see that there is a lot of general slowness - it would be most valuable to hear if *anything* runs fast? That could make it easier to narrow down the problem. While you're at it, you might also want to try an run Unity with the environment variable CLUTTER_VBLANK=none set. This has reportedly fixed the issue for some. To test it out simply run 'CLUTTER_VBLANK=none mutter --replace' from a terminal. If it works for you, you can make it permanent by executing 'sudo echo CLUTTER_VBLANK=none /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10unity-quirks'. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati On maverick with KMS enabled, programs that use video fading effect are unusably slow, screen updates freeze for seconds with X server using 100% CPU. There is no corresponding ButtonRelease, so the computer acts as if that mouse button is held down. The ButtonPress occurs between the KeyPress and KeyRelease events of the special key. Right-click change desktop background results in 100% cpu spike. Checking system monitor shows Xorg server using 650mb + memory. In another note (possibly unrelated), my laptop's middle click stopped working. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661111] [NEW] Disable button not functioning correctly on Synaptics Touchpad
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics My disable button for my Synaptics touchpad has never worked correctly in Ubuntu. From the start the disable button has never functioned. I managed to find a (sort of) fix to get the button to disable, and that was to change the keybindings, the default value in gconf-editor did not correspond to the actual shortcut key. The default value was XF86TouchpadToggle, however when I created a keyboard shortcut the disable button registers as Help, so I changed the value of the touchpad key binding in gconf-editor and my touchpad works, but the problem is, I have to press the disable button twice to get it to disable and twice to re-neable it again. So I feel that there is more a persistent problem with my machine. My computer is a Compaq Presario CQ60-307EA, with the Synaptics Touchpad. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626974] Re: ABI change in xorg 1.9 breaks legacy nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 drivers in Maverick
Thanks to eMcE's hack, I succeeded in getting my screen back. Still, there one glitch : Upon restarting, it went on the console, because it could not find the nvidia driver. I guess it was because I installed nvidia-current alongside nvidia-96. The solution was to choose nvidia-96 driver instead of nvidia-current (for my video card, I use the 96 driver). Please note that before eMcE's last step (Restart), I did edit my xorg.conf file to put it back the configuration that worked for me on Ubuntu 10.04. The steps were: 1. Start Ubuntu on recovery mode 2. On the ugly menu, choose failsafe mode for one session only 3. When logged in, go to Menu - System - Administration -Hardware Drivers 4. You should see two drivers, the NVIDIA accelerated graphic drivers (version current) (which is green, i.e., in use, and the NVIDIA accelerated graphic drivers (version 96) [Recommended] which is not used. 5. Select NVIDIA accelerated graphic drivers (version 96) [Recommended] and Activate it (the button on the down right of the window) 6. Restart 7. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661182] [NEW] package nvidia-current 260.19.06-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: I freshly downloaded Ubuntu desktop 10.10 (beta?) and installed it to my USB key from another Ubuntu. I launched the new 10.10 from USB key in test (live) mode for the first time, and I wanted to install nVidia drivers in it. It failed everytime with the same a strange error popup window appearing just before the progress bar went 100% (I tried 3~4 times). At the end, the app. which was installing the driver hanged and I had to close it with 'Force Quit' applet. However, after I killed the hanging window I tried to re-create the bug to take a screenshot of the error message, but I saw that my driver is installed instead. Well, I'am happy it is but the application is surely was behaving buggy and I was very surprised that it actually managed to install nVidia driver. What's even more strange, when I launched the desktop properties via context menu for desktop change wallpaper. And tried to turn on desktop effects (compiz) it prompted me to install nVidia driver again (but I saw that it is already installed just a minute ago!). I clicked okay and the application is swinging the progress bar and I'am waiting to see what will happen next. A massage box shown with a message: Please run Appearance/Desktop Effects again after restarting the computer, when the new graphics driver is active. So maybe it tried to install the nVidia driver again because it wasn't active yet? I don't know, I hope you know. I'am going down for a restart now and see what will happen (I have a 4gb persistance file so my driver should be saved for live session) I hope this information will be helpful :-) Thank you for your support! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527912] Re: Wacom Bamboo CTH-661 not recognized
Lucid support has also been implemented by a linux-backports-modules update. Marking the kernel task as won't fix for that reason. ** Description changed: + SRU Justification: + + Impact: Some of the newer wacom tablet models are not supported by the + in-kernel driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661235] [NEW] live-cd boot does not work with nvidia ion (ZOTAC GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau When I want to boot Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10 using the desktop cd, the boot always freezes. I have a ZOTAC GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi. I think it's because of nouveau, because when I tried it on my system, which normally uses official nvidia driver, the boot will freeze the same way. I used an live-cd of an older version of Ubuntu, which works fine, to repair the system by setting Xorg.conf to use the nvidia driver. Currently I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with the mainline 2.6.34 kernel, because the current-nvidia driver always crashs with the original kernel. As long as the change has not become part of the official linux- backports-modules package you actually may loose support when there is a newer kernel with a higher abi number. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661327] [NEW] User interface stutters / laggy when mouse NOT moving
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I am not certain this is an Xorg problem, but some of the time (~10-20%?) my system stutters if I am not moving the mouse. Music I'm playing will skip badly and CPU usage will stay elevated. Text I type in terminals is slow to appear. If I wave my mouse around the screen like a madman, the stuttering goes away. I have noticed sometimes it even occurs at the login screen, and seems to prevent my login from working properly. This has happened to several people: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1586678 I have tried (and am currently running) the X-Updates PPA, but that did not help. This bug occurred whether I used the standard Maverick release version of X, the X-Updates X, Nouveau as my video driver, or the proprietary NVIDIA driver as my video driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 583005] Re: video corruption after xrandr
This is still occurring. Here are some more things I've tried to clear it. Sometimes it seems that I can remove the corruption by changing the display resolution to something extremely low, but I haven't been able to get that to work reliably. I've tried rerunning my dock/undock scripts. I've tried kwin --replace, and even a different window manager. I've tried changing the refresh rates. The only thing that reliably fixes it is logging out and back in. Of course if I reboot, or restart Xorg from the KDM login screen, xorg comes up in clone mode instead of with the DVI display left of the LVDS. This corruption occurs every time I run the above described xrandr commands, but I can't capture the corruption via a screen grab tool. -- video corruption after xrandr https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/583005 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656067] Re: Wacom Tablet mouse-wheel always scrolls down
The solution is here, but it need ubuntu kernel compilation : too difficult for me. So if someone can do that, it would be great cordialement, http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg10577.html This fixes a regression introduced in 3b57ca0f80c5c8994b5b1e3d3f904cfe727951f2. The data[6] byte contains either 1 or -1 depending on the whether the mouse wheel on older wacom tablets is moved down (1) or up (-1). The patch introduced in the above commit changed the cast from (signed char) to (signed). When cast as a signed integer and negated, the value of -1 (stored in the byte as 0xff) became -255 rather than 1. This patch reverts the cast to a (signed char) and also removes an unnecessary (signed) cast, as all the values operated on are bitmasked.
