[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 675882] Re: Screen blanks on lid close - Powermanagement is set to Do nothing

2010-11-16 Thread Robert Roth
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please answer the question:

* The external screen blanks too when you close the lid, not only the laptop
display?
* Are you using the opensource or the proprietary ATI driver?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

* Yes, the external screen blanks too.

* I'm using the opensource driver. I have tried the proprietary ATI
driver, but it didn't work either, so I switched back to the opensource

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 665546] Re: Drop and sub menus don't always show up

2010-11-16 Thread Thorsten Roth
Some more information on this:
When I have alpha blurring enabled in Compiz (without even using it for the
window decorations!), the window menu button really often does not show the
menu when clicked. After disabling the blur effect, the problem still exists,
but not as often as before. WTF? ;)

And btw, for me it also happens with Metacity and Compositing enabled,
though it's not as as bad. Don't know for sure if it also happens
without compositing, not yet tested...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528432] Re: [gm45] X crashes and restarts with *ERROR* Failed to pin buffer 4 of 17

2010-11-16 Thread Jörg Herzinger
To me this is currently unacceptable. This bug has been reported even before
the release of lucid and it has been confirmed now for just one month.
According to freedesktop.org this bug has even been fixed over one year ago.
I don't know if you are seeing the severity of this. Every IBM ThinkCentre (and
there do exist a lot of them around the globe) is using this graphics
card/driver and they all crash randomly when browsing with firefox, reading
emails with thunderbird or editing some files in OpenOffice. I think this bug
really has a very high importance and I personally will start tesing around
with packages from maverick and debian squeeze to get my 35 users a stable
system.

I just tried in on a Asus EEE 1005HA, using Maverick x86

Two-finger scrolling (both horizontal and vertical) works wonderfully,

tap, though. Then again, I don't know if my touchpad has the hardware
capabilities of detecting a 3-finger tap.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 668641] Re: GNOME does not load theme after innstalling NVIDIA non-free driver

2010-11-16 Thread Sam Ennuie
Hello All,
I've the same issue...

As far as I can remember, I've met already this bug in past with an older
distro (ubuntu 9.xx ?).
Since the official 10.10 release, I've intalled ubuntu on my (slow) hard drive
and I've never been faced with this behaviour (AMD64 -Alternate install
Nvidia proprietary driver).
Everything was great graphicaly until I re-installed the full system on a SSD
drive (always with the proprietary nvidia driver).
This bug appeared yesterday and is still present on my system (that's really
ugly).
Sometimes, a Logoff and Logon under gnome fix this issue (totaly random).

The boot time has been improved a lot (3-5 times) with the SSD drive, my
opinion is a process has not enough time to start, or something like
that.

I hope this will give you some clues.
Have an idea of wich process to manualy restart ?

Kind regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2010-11-16 Thread Jason
A workaround for now is to disable KMS.

sudo echo options radeon modeset=0 /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf

For some users (particularly users with encrypted volumes) KMS is
enabled very early in the boot process and in order to pick up these
changes you also need to run sudo update-initramfs -u.

Then reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676183] [NEW] Basic shaders produce incorrect output

2010-11-16 Thread Stéphan Kochen
Public bug reported:

Trying to build something on WebGL technology, I noticed that basic
shaders were producing incorrect output. The problem occurs on both
Firefox 4 and Chrome 7. I'm on Intel GM965 hardware, but strangely also
see the exact same problem when I install `libgl1-mesa-swrast` or try
with `LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1`.

The problem can be reproduced with a fragment shader that simply says:

gl_FragColor = vec4(1.0, 0.9, 0.9, 1.0);

The output will appear in bright red. I've had several people on Windows
and Maverick with nVidia report that they see a pinkish white, as I was
expecting in the first place.

I've uploaded a simple WebGL example here: (I'll try to attach it.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676183] Re: Basic shaders produce incorrect output

2010-11-16 Thread Stéphan Kochen
Here's the example page as an attachment, for archiving.

Perhaps useful to add, some other things I've tried:

 * Drawing interpolated color shades using a varying variable works.
 * Functions like `dot` and `max` produce valid float output. For example,
using these two, I can implement just the diffuse step in Phong shading.
 * But once I start using using regular operators on the floats, the values are
truncated.

** Attachment added: WebGL example page that produces the problem.

Glad it works. :-)

Credit for finding out the hardware protocol goes to Takashi Iwai. Chase

Bagwell did further improvements and cleanup.

I have uploaded the package to the ppa:utouch-team/utouch, it should be
available within an hour or so.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555158] Re: glxinfo crashed with SIGSEGV in XF86DRIQueryExtension()

2010-11-16 Thread Pedric
Using a laptop with hybrid graphics (integrated intel dedicated amd
gpu), this bug hits me while running in integrated mode. I am using a
hybrid xorg.conf that uses either gpu if activated in bios. For me, the
fglrx driver is unfortunately required for proper load-dependent
(dynamic) frequency scaling of the dedicated GPU without flickering at
frequency changes. With the intel driver running, libgl crashes every
time it is used...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676233] [NEW] xserver jammed up (only mouse working)

2010-11-16 Thread Wookey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I was doing very typical work (for a minute or so after 50mins away)
when the machine stopped responding. The mouse moved but keyboard LEDs
dead and no screen action. Not even ctrl-alt-F1 or -backspace did
anything.

htop told me that the Xserver was running at about 70%, and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log said: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably
stuck in an infinite loop. which seems about right.

I upgraded to Maverick and noveau instead of Karmic and nvidia a couple
of weeks ago, so I suspect the noveau driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 632815] Re: A simple Processing program crashes X when effects are on

2010-11-16 Thread aefaradien
I am also seeing this issue. The mouse still moves around, but the
whole display ceases to redraw. Also just before this happens (when the
app first stars) the screen flickers for a few seconds in a really nasty
strobe-like way.

This crash can be recovered from by switching to a different virtual tty
(ctrl+alt+f1) and killing the offending process.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-11-16 Thread John Baptist
Are there any plans to release this fix as part of a mainline release of
Ubuntu, either a future version, or as an update to Lucid or Maverick?
Or will I always have to manually use the PPA?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 33075] Re: Dell Inspiron 8200 Nvidia proprietary driver causes display errors (vertical lines on the right, and mirror effect on the bottom)[Workaround Available]

2010-11-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for posting a way to fix the issue manually.

Unfortunately, currently we do not have an infrastructure for
dynamically replacing the EDID, so since this is a replacement edid file
rather than an actual patch, I'm unmarking it as a solution to the bug.

However, I think this is a good example of the type of issue discussed
for addressing as part of the hardware-desktop-n-xorg-configuration-
the-final-ten-percent specification, so I've linked it from there.
Basically, we need a user-friendly mechanism for editing/overriding
EDID's where the monitor is supplying a bad EDID. In some cases we can
quirk around it in the kernel driver, but obviously with nvidia being
closed source that's not possible.

But this bug report demonstrates that given a proper replacement EDID
file, it can be overridden for -nvidia in xorg.conf. So perhaps this
functionality could be incorporated into nvidia-config, xdiagnose, or
some other utility as appropriate.

The question then becomes, how to generate the replacement EDID. In the
original forum post referenced here, the contributor used a Windows
utility called Phoenix(?) to generate it. I don't think we have an
equivalent tool on linux, although we do have tools to decode EDID in
the form of read-edid and edid-decode (which I've just uploaded to
universe today). Presumably it would be feasible to create an edid
encoding tool by essentially inverting the decoder logic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655592] Re: [R300g] System hangs when using direct rendering [patch available]

2010-11-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for attaching a patch and confirming it solves this bug.

Natty is going to be shipping the gallium enabled r300g, so I'm removing
[xorg-edgers], as this issue is directly relevant for natty.

Can you test and confirm that this is still an issue on Natty? Possibly
the aforementioned patch was already taken into the kernel.

In any case, given that the fix for this is a kernel patch, this bug
needs to be handled as a kernel drm bug rather than as a mesa bug.

@Henrik
Your dkms package moves the Clickpad button detection to xorg-input. I know
that Takashi released a number of patches for xorg-input-synaptics to handle
pinch-zoom, rotate, Clickpad button detection, Clickpad LED support, etc. How
does this fit in with uTouch? The Clickpad buttons will not work properly
without additional xorg-input modifications.
