[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714430] [NEW] Xorg crash on deactivate etternal display while internal switched off
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I used ubuntu-x-swat ppa for get updated video driver, and found it has useful feature: displays activates/deactivates just on attach/deattach dsub (vga) cable to my netbook. It's cool and useful for me, but one bug is annoying me: in home I don't use internal netbook display and fully switching to external (because of compiz can't run then external display resolution is too high - seems out of video memory (while videocard is actually uses system memory) to handle composite output 1024x600 and 1680x1050 simultaneously). Netbook successfully switches ON external 20 display and switches OFF internal 10 when I connecting cable. But when I disconnect external monitor cable, Xorg is instantly crashes. No matter if LID is open or closed. Here's some info about my system: Ubuntu 10.10 x64 2-monitor setup ATI graphics chipset PS/2 Keyboard USB Cordless mouse I launched gedit in a terminal, made it the active window, then tried to click on an inactive window. It gave me three errors each time I did this: (gedit:2050): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_window_get_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (gedit:2050): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (gedit:2050): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229123 Title: major window focus problem in X ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714626] [NEW] gnome-terminal slow to start
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Starting up gnome-terminal is slow (around half a second), even when hot-starting, while it was immediate in 10.04. I did some strace-ing (logs attached below) and the culprit is a 400ms long read() on the X socket. I file this bug in xorg because it's probably caused by the intel Q35 (GMA3100) driver which is known to be particularly broken in maverick in dual screen setups (missing secondary screen #619663, regular freezes #628556, various graphical corruptions, ...) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop
Add me to the list: Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 64-bit Dell Vostro 220 (Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 w/Intel Chipset MB) - built-in Intel graphics adapter (disabled) - installed GeForce 8400 GS (DVI and VGA output) - using the nouveau driver w/nvidia card w/dual-headed display When my system freezes, the mouse still moves fine (isn't slow) but all mouse and keyboard input is ignored (including CTRL+ALT Backspace, CTRL+ALT Fx, etc.). The display is frozen except that the mouse cursor can be moved around. I *DO NOT* have any of the NMI messages that others have reported in any of my log files. Also, I've never suspended my system so there is no correlation with others who seem to have this issue after a suspend. My system will usually run for server hours at a time just fine but is still guaranteed to have this issue eventually. The crash/freeze has always happened while viewing/editing a company wiki page in Firefox (probably just a statistical coincidence) and running a Window XP virtual guest (using qemu-kvm and libvirt). Here's the moment of freeze in my Xorg.0.log: [ 12056.181] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714766] [NEW] [i965gm] GPU lockup 28361907
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I don't really know what happened. I resumed my laptop from sleep and noticed an Apport suggestion to file a bug. I've experienced GPU hangs on this laptop before: bug 693540. Perhaps Apport finally noticed the one that happened three days ago? I'm not sure when it was supposed to kick in; there was a crash on Friday (recovered with Alt+SysRq+K), a reboot today, and then a suspend/resume cycle, after which I noticed the apport crash icon. I seem to be having the same problem on a Lenovo X200 tablet. I get the error after using a projector (setting it up with xrandr) then putting the computer to sleep. It freezes when I try to wake it up, forcing me to reboot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714474] Re: [q35] GPU lockup aa9dd4a2 (PGTBL_ER: 0x00000002)
Did the system actually lock up on you requiring a power cycle? Or did it display this error dialog but you didn't notice anything wrong? It looks from the logs like it locked up but then automatically recovered itself. You are starting the default desktop? That is the netbook menu and it's hiding in the upper left corner. The left side of the window is also the place where the menu appears when you move the mouse in that direction. At my laptop the response is very slow and unworkable due to a intel driver issue (I think) so I am limited in my suggestions for you. Have you created a separate user for this 11.04 environment, with a separate home directory like /home/separate/. I would recommend that, the settings might interfere with the settings from other ubuntu versions. 2011/2/7 rtstxtrdnr 711...@bugs.launchpad.net I have done this on a separate partition but now am trying to work with missing buttons on the dashand cannot add them. The most important are places, application, and system. Also the firebox button disappeared! Any help would be great. I am currently using 10.10 to work on. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 668497] Re: Cursor stucks temporarily when using certain key cominations.
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics The bug is present in all versions of ubuntu and for all touchpads(I suppose, but certainly here for synaptics touchpad) and its very annoying and degrades user experience. To reproduce the bug follow the steps 1. move cursor randomly on the screen using the touchpad. 2. Simultaneously press Ctrl+c or Ctrl+V from the keyboard. 3. keep on pressing either of the key combinations to reproduce the effect. With the bug, it appears to an average user that the ubuntu hangs and stuck while using Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v and is quite noticeable. - - The bug disappears completely when I + The bug disappears completely when I 1. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714804] [NEW] Menus in KDE do not get drawn properly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This is a bug that I found reported to KDE's bugzilla that affects me. In rekonq if you have desktop effects on (KDE 4.6.0/Kubuntu 10.10), specifically the shadow and blur effects, the wrench menu in the upper right corner does not draw when you click the wrench. The menu is there, but it is invisible. The submenus appear when you mouse over them. Also, the right click menu does the same thing. Now, this bug was reported on KDE and later closed because it was solved by an upgrade of the xf86-video-intel driver to 2.14.0. Once the driver is updated to that version the problem dissapears according to the last post at the end of that bug report. The report is here (along with all the duplicates): https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=247839 Duplicates: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=256363 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253938 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255175 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=262855 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259608 I tried to verify that this is true by upgrading my own intel driver to 2.14.0, but I ran into a problem when I installed the driver. So, I asked for help on the driver's mailing list. That request is here: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2011-January/009265.html The response to this request was silence. Noone even acknowledged that I asked a question on the list. So, then I posted the same question here on launchpad because I figured that someone here would have had experience installing the 2.14.0 driver or compiling it etc. That question is here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+question/142372 The response to that question also was silence. As if I had not even asked the question at all. Then I figured that I might try asking someone who clearly HAS compiled 2.14.0 and installed it successfully. So, i contacted that canonical programmer who compiled the version of this driver in the unofficial PPA. Again, silence. Not even acknowledgement that I had sent him an email. So, here I am opening a bug about this. Hopefully someone will at least look at this bug report. The KDE people were very responsive, but the problem was not with KDE. I also noticed that natty is now using 2.14.0 so if someone can confirm that Kubuntu natty does not exhibit this bug, that would be great. Then the package in maverick should be updated to 2.14.0 My setup is Kubuntu 10.10 KDE 4.6.0 xf86-video-intel 2.12.0 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/714804 Title: Menus in KDE do not get drawn properly ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
