[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 706890] Re: dual monitors garbled display on 10.10 with Radeon X600

2011-02-13 Thread Bob Paulson
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Since I upgraded from Lucid to Maverick (official release with latest
updates), the display with dual non-mirrored monitors does not work. I
  have a Dell Dimension 9150 with 2 GB RAM, Intel Pentium 4 dual-core 3
GHz CPU and a Radeon X600 graphics chip. This worked fine in Lucid and
  Windows XP.

My setup: Samsung 17 SyncMaster 171s VGA 60 Hz on left, and 19 Samsung
SyncMaster 943 DVI 75 Hz on right, both at 1280 x 1024. The Radeon
controller has a VGA and a DVI socket and the two monitors are connected
as indicated. Mirrored monitors display fine. But using System -
Monitor Preferences, uncheck Same image in all monitors, click on
Apply, and the right-hand monitor (19 DVI) completely garbles the right
half of the display from top to bottom. Also tried 60 Hz, no change.

I ran Update Manager to get the latest official updates, googled and
tried various suggestions, such as bleeding.edge xorg stuff, but it
was no help. Not sure if this is supposed to have been resolved or not.
So I downgraded to 10.4 where it works fine.

Would be great to get an answer as to how to fix this problem - thanks.

Here you go. I've since determined that the problem only occurs when I
have set Appearances-Visual Effects to Normal (which was the default).
If I set it to None, then the problem doesn't happen. Attached is the
screen shot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu

2011-02-13 Thread Joey
I previously had this problem. Two things seemed to fix it.

1) Purged the fglrx drivers and reinstalled the proprietary ATI drivers
2) Mixxx only starts if I disable compiz as recommended in post #65 (Thanks
phil!!)

Now, I'm sure this isn't a long term solution for Mixxx and/or other
programs that Mixxx may rely on causing this problem. However, this
combination of fixes seems to work fine. Previously I could run Mixxx
without waveform displays on, although now they are on and it starts
fine (provided I first disable compiz after each restart).

I tried to automate turning off compiz by changing the Mixxx command to
metacity --replace pasuspender mixxx, which I thought should run
metacity --replace and then run Mixxx. It didn't exactly work. Perhaps
it is different than using alt+f2, which runs it in tty2 (if I
understand correctly). Should I have to specify that the first command
run in tty2 somehow? Anyways, Mixxx works on my system provided the
above two conditions are met.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616891] Re: Wacom Bamboo Fun (056a:00d3 Wacom Co., Ltd): Pen Touch don't work in any way (touch or pencil)

2011-02-13 Thread Otomo
When I used Kubuntu, this worked for me:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9496609postcount=1
Now I couldn't tell you because I use Sabayon, and as it's loaded with
latest wacom drivers I didn't need to do anything.

2011/2/8 mmiicc mpredo...@gmail.com

I've installed wacom-dkms package from ppa. Unfortunately touch doesn't
work properly. I can't even move a cursor, only double-click works
 somehow.

 I use Ubuntu 10.10 with linux-backports-modules-input installed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 668641] Re: GNOME does not load theme after innstalling NVIDIA non-free driver

2011-02-13 Thread Ricardo Sansores Aguilar
I see this problem in two different computers. Like Sam Ennuie says I
think this is a timing problem, In my case the problem presents during
the first login after pc power on (the login process is a little longer
at this time) if I logout and login again the theme works just fine.
(the second login is a little quicker)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718339] [NEW] resizing xterm larger causes corruption onscreen and in terminal

2011-02-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm running Natty Narwhal on x86_64 but using the gnome-session, not
Unity, environment. My home directory is NFS mounted from a Debian
x86_64 box. My desktop was running 10.10 with the latest updates before
I upgraded this desktop using the non-gui method of 'do release-
upgrade'.

If I don't re-size the xterm (version: XTerm(268)) everything is ok. I
can shrink the xterm and have the new size work ok, but growing the
screen area, shows corruption.

System details:

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718339] [NEW] resizing xterm larger causes corruption onscreen and in terminal

I tried to investigate this, using today's build of Natty.
However, its installer had a fatal error.

symptom doesn't sound like other bug reports (unless this is yet another
complaint about compiz - report doesn't specify).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711917] [NEW] Touchpad vertical scroll stopped working after upgrades in Natty

2011-02-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After some of the upgrades the vertical scroll stopped working in Natty. It can
be fixed temporarily by running:
   modprobe psmouse proto=imps

as root. Permanently can be changed by creating a file called touchpad.conf in
/etc/modprobe.d/ with following content:
   options psmouse proto=imps

I believe, that it should be working in default configuration though.

Running on AO532h.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714280] Re: The error was 'BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length erro'.

2011-02-13 Thread Jean-Louis Dupond
After a chat in #ubuntu-x, it seems like it got fixed in mesa:
Change:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=bfc889517ad0d490cce1817eecac146d66bcd923

We should get this in Natty asap :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714280] Re: The error was 'BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length erro'.

2011-02-13 Thread Julien Cristau
This should be fixed by
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=cbe9fc12a64c3ae89fd1b20e9e165aa4b76293a5
in mesa, work around for xorg-server at
http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/3987/
There's a couple other patches for mesa in the same vein that should go with
that, AFAIK they're all cherry-picked to the 7.10 branch.
You may also want http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/3986/ and
http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/3985/ in your X server.

Actually you can workaround this by disabling the touch-screen with
sudo modprobe -r hid_ntrig.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718339] Re: resizing xterm larger causes corruption onscreen and in terminal

2011-02-13 Thread Dave Gilbert
This seems mostly OK for me on both of my machines (one Intel 945GM, and
the other is Radeon HD4350 with open drivers).

On the Intel one, there is a small band of pixel droppings around the left and
bottom of the window that is a bit odd; but the contents are fine.
(Radeon setup is Kubuntu, Intel is classic Gnome with compiz).

l8gravely: Can you say what graphics hardware you've got, whether you're using
compiz or metacity and anything else about the graphics setup you'd think might
be interesting.

I'm running the regular radeon kernel driver, not the AMD/ATI Catalyst
one. It's certainly possible that I've got something messed up in my

with the xorg-edgers stuff, but it was so unstable that I dropped out

Another thing I notice, is that when I do resize an xterm, the popup

Do people want me to send any screen shots?

Ok, it looks like the problem is some interaction with compiz. Now
that I've switched back to metacity (did: apt-get purge compiz
compiz-gnome) I don't see the corruption that I did before.

But I do see annoying flashes when I resize the xterm.

And another note, when running with the compiz window manager, if I
re-sized the xterm, I would lose the ability to grab the lower right
corner of the window, at least until I resize it using the LEFT and
TOP sides of the window back to the original size. This was because I
re-sized down and to the right using the lower right hand corner grab
area to re-size.

Very strange, but obviously something wrong with either compiz, DRM,
Radeon driver(s), X, etc. So it's probably NOT an xterm bug. But
I'll re-install compiz, re-enable it and see if it happens with other
terminals or windows when I re-size them.

Thanks,
John

More information. The gnome-terminal does NOT exbhibit this bug. But
uxterm, based on XTerm(268) does show the bug. Hmm... I just
installed a whole bunch and did some simple tests.

  Terminal Emulator Status

So I'd almost say it's something with the xterm family, maybe Xlib
based?

Let me know if there's more info you need and I'll do my best to get
it to you. I'm happy to apply patches or updates to the system too.
I'll be pulling daily updates and doing full reboots.
