[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 706890] Re: dual monitors garbled display on 10.10 with Radeon X600
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Since I upgraded from Lucid to Maverick (official release with latest updates), the display with dual non-mirrored monitors does not work. I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with 2 GB RAM, Intel Pentium 4 dual-core 3 GHz CPU and a Radeon X600 graphics chip. This worked fine in Lucid and Windows XP. My setup: Samsung 17 SyncMaster 171s VGA 60 Hz on left, and 19 Samsung SyncMaster 943 DVI 75 Hz on right, both at 1280 x 1024. The Radeon controller has a VGA and a DVI socket and the two monitors are connected as indicated. Mirrored monitors display fine. But using System - Monitor Preferences, uncheck Same image in all monitors, click on Apply, and the right-hand monitor (19 DVI) completely garbles the right half of the display from top to bottom. Also tried 60 Hz, no change. I ran Update Manager to get the latest official updates, googled and tried various suggestions, such as bleeding.edge xorg stuff, but it was no help. Not sure if this is supposed to have been resolved or not. So I downgraded to 10.4 where it works fine. Would be great to get an answer as to how to fix this problem - thanks. - Bob Paulson + --- + Architecture: i386 + CurrentDmesg: + [ 20.158526] e1000e: eth0 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX + [ 20.158532] e1000e :04:00.0: eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO + [ 20.158758] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready + [ 27.951716] EXT4-fs (sda6): re-mounted. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu
I previously had this problem. Two things seemed to fix it. 1) Purged the fglrx drivers and reinstalled the proprietary ATI drivers 2) Mixxx only starts if I disable compiz as recommended in post #65 (Thanks phil!!) Now, I'm sure this isn't a long term solution for Mixxx and/or other programs that Mixxx may rely on causing this problem. However, this combination of fixes seems to work fine. Previously I could run Mixxx without waveform displays on, although now they are on and it starts fine (provided I first disable compiz after each restart). I tried to automate turning off compiz by changing the Mixxx command to metacity --replace pasuspender mixxx, which I thought should run metacity --replace and then run Mixxx. It didn't exactly work. Perhaps it is different than using alt+f2, which runs it in tty2 (if I understand correctly). Should I have to specify that the first command run in tty2 somehow? Anyways, Mixxx works on my system provided the above two conditions are met. I'm l8gravely running compiz as the window manager, I'll drop that and l8gravely change back to metacity as a test. Ok, it looks like the problem is some interaction with compiz. Now that I've switched back to metacity (did: apt-get purge compiz compiz-gnome) I don't see the corruption that I did before. But I do see annoying flashes when I resize the xterm. And another note, when running with the compiz window manager, if I re-sized the xterm, I would lose the ability to grab the lower right corner of the window, at least until I resize it using the LEFT and TOP sides of the window back to the original size. This was because I re-sized down and to the right using the lower right hand corner grab area to re-size. Very strange, but obviously something wrong with either compiz, DRM, Radeon driver(s), X, etc. So it's probably NOT an xterm bug. But I'll re-install compiz, re-enable it and see if it happens with other terminals or windows when I re-size them.
