[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 749817] Re: natty regression: screen goes black when external monitor is connected

2011-04-22 Thread Bernhard Kausler
Dear Martin,

regarding problem 1:
Using the notebook display as my left and the monitor as my right screen, I
observe this artifacts, that you describe:
- Context menus leave a rectangle painted with background behind (Gnome).
- Auto-hiding panels do not reappear when moving the mouse to the border or
shortly appear when moving the mouse pointer away from the border (Gnome)
- Was thrown back to the login manager after loading a flash video in Firefox.
(don't know, if these two are related.) (Unity)

These artifacts appear rarely and in an unpredictable manner.

regarding problem 2 and 3:
- I can't confirm this. My external display just stays black. Sometimes, only
the mouse pointer appears but nothing else

My setup (as a reminder; posted it already):
Thinkpad X201 in Ultrabase connected to external monitor via hdmi-DVI (using
the original Lenovo hdmi to DVI converter).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 748137] Re: unity rendering broken with fglrx (black masks)

2011-04-22 Thread axel
apologies,
I keep getting my .gconf corrupted which prevents unity from
loading. You are correct ... I deleted my profiles .gconf folder and logged
back in and Unity is now loading as it used to do using the Radeon driver.

I still get graphics corruption (not the fkgrx black window issue posted here)
which is the Radeon bug with my specific chip-set.
I belive this bug is associated with the shared graphics memory on my netbook.
To avoid this I have to boot with radeon.modeset=0, which disables unity
anyway!

You should not have my driver bug so you should work with the basic
radeon driver and your hardware enjoy :-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433928] Re: gdm-binary[2671]: WARNING: Unable to find users: no seat-id found

2011-04-22 Thread Robotex
I have the same problem in 11.04.

System starts and propose me enter login password in console, but I can't do
it, because console hidden by violet screen (without Ubuntu logo and progress
bar). So I must wait about 10 minutes for gdm start.
I can load in recovery mode (and must hope that Ubuntu not hang on load), enter
login and password in console and then type "sudo /etc/inid.t/gdm start" (I'll
see text on gdm's loading: unable to find users :no seat-id found) and gdm
starts. What's wrong.
It started when I install video driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763130] Re: X hangs at startup (segfault in fglrx?) after Natty beta upgrade

2011-04-22 Thread Steffen Rusitschka
I've had the same issue on my Upgrade from Maverick to Natty. I didn't
use fglrx on Maverick, but had it installed once. Mainly removing
/usr/lib/fglrx and /usr/lib32/fglrx manually solved the problem. I guess
those where some leftovers from an incomplete Maverick fglrx uninstall.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768863] [NEW] Fullscreen applications show a corrupted lines of pixels at one or more of the margins.

2011-04-22 Thread Sebastian Bugiu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

For example in the attachment in Firefox you can see a small white line
in both left and right of the tab list. It happens after I boot the
system and start applications for the first time. Another example
Nautilus shows a white line at the bottom of the screen(runs the whole
length of the screen). After I focus on another application and then
focus back, it returns to normal and everything looks fine but it's
initially annoying. I'll post more screenshots when I'll encounter the
issue again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768159] Re: X server randomly crashes (Segmentation fault at address 0x7f18a55c7010)

2011-04-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Lukas, this backtrace looks more like a GPU lockup (note all the
"*Wait*" calls). GPUs are pretty common to Intel graphics.

For these kinds of issues, reproduce the freeze and collect the following:
  * /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
  * dmesg
  * File bug as ubuntu-bug xorg

Yep. Still working after removing Bryce's PPA from the list of repositories

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-04-22 Thread Zhmak
Yes, I still seeing this bug.

Couple hours ago I did upgrade packages to up-to-date versions and
rebooted system. Then I saw in unlock screen two different glyphs are
stroked (picture attached to post).

How can I install newest kernel or experimental driver?

My current kernel is:
$ uname -a
Linux eee-900 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:50 UTC 2011 i686

Version of xserver-xorg-video-intel is 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7

I can confirm this bug, too. But I would need the fglrx driver working,
because the radeon-HDMI-sound output does not work. It did in Maverick.

$ uname -a
Linux eee-900 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:50 UTC
2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Version of xserver-xorg-video-intel is 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 571305] Re: gnome "application not responding" when exiting

2011-04-22 Thread Fabio Marconi
Hello Patrick
to switch from compiz to metacity and viceversa, by terminal:
sudo metacity --replace
(to use metacity), this is just a temporarily switch that disable every special
effect and gives you the base desktop (without cube or others compiz plugins),
at the reboot your system will be restored as ususal, if you don't want to
reboot, simply
sudo compiz --replace
Is possible also in graphical way, but actually i cannot remeber how, because i
upgraded to natty months ago.
Well seems that our bugbot detect something interesting:

When the mouse pointer closes a window by left click on the top-right
button and the application takes a while to quit, a popup-window tells
that the application has hung and you can select "wait" or "force quit".

On my netbook this popup comes very often and I'm annoyed by it, because it
sets the focus to the popup when I've started to work with an other window.
What about having a popup that doesn't bring the hung window to front nor
changes focus to the popup-window. I need to manually switch to the hung
application to get the popup.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!

2011-04-22 Thread Soenke
Cannot acknowledge. There are no messages in syslog anymore but the
disable-cpu hack is still neccessary for me. (fresh install of natty
with 270.41.06-0ubuntu1). Otherwise chrome get laggy again after resume.
The cpu-hack also fucks up virtualbox after resume. Meh :-(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second (two monitors detected?)

2011-04-22 Thread Cobalt
Hi, Bryce,

could we coordinate further processing with upstream? I understand
everybody has a lot of work to do, so I would like to know you are ready
to forward the report and upstream is ready to look into it if I test
again. I have tested edgers and especially natty several times only to
be asked to test again weeks later since the upstream code might have
changed in the mean time.

Is there any reason to think that this particular issue may have been
addressed, however? Actually, I would expect upstream to be able to
answer this question quickly and if they want me to retest I will be
happy to do it.

Regarding the kernel, well, I have used live CD's for natty. Do you want
me to retest maverick with a new kernel? If so, where do I get the
experimental version?

Thanks a lot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768958] [NEW] Keyboard layout wrong on MBP 7, 1 "Macintosh International"

2011-04-22 Thread Alan Pope
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hullo! Clean install of Natty on my MBP 7,1. During install I chose
"Macintosh International" as the keyboard layout because "Macintosh"
resulted in various keys being in the wrong place.

However, now I have an odd issue as a result.

If I want normal quotes I have to press SHIFT+' followed by SPACE. If I
do SHIFT+' then the next letter, it accents the next letter. á <- like
that. If I do two sets of double quotes I get these:- ¨ when I want
these "".

In System Settings it says 'United Kingdom Macintosh (International)' as
the keyboard layout.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768986] [NEW] [i915G] graphics corruption, kbuntu causes panic on login

2011-04-22 Thread Matthias Andree
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have occasional corruption of graphics output in circumstances I
cannot yet reproduce.

What I can reproduce however is a persistent kernel panic when trying to
log into a kubuntu/plasma desktop session. Unfortunately it is not
recorded in the kernel logs, thus I cannot post it yet - but it suffices
to install kubuntu-desktop, run gdm, and pick the only offered
KDE/plasma session from gdm's session chooser.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768986] Re: [i915G] graphics corruption, kbuntu causes panic on login

2011-04-22 Thread Matthias Andree
Note that the Matrox G450 card is not used. Its ports are unconnected,
and the kernel boots with video=intelfb, and the monitor is connected to
the onboard i915G driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 488152] Re: [RV710] With ATI restricted driver deactivated, GPU is overheating

2011-04-22 Thread madbiologist
@Alexey - the performance improvements I mentioned in comment #23 are
already in Natty, so you can test it now if you want. The only reason
for waiting for the final release is that you may run into less other
bugs.
