[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774554] [NEW] upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 failed

2011-05-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Dell Precision M60 Laptop w/ Nvidia Go700FX video. Upgraded in place
from 10.10 to 11.04. Started system, logged in, got to the desktop. Can
see cursor but the screen seems to be slowly rolling. There is nothing
on the desktop, no Unity. Try to get to virtual console and see a white
screen with black deformed text. It appears I can log in but I can't
read what I'm typing.

Tried a fresh install and encountered the same problem. The upgrade and
fresh install bricked this laptop. I suspect the problem has to do with
the Nvidia card. 11.04 fresh installed fine on my Dell Precision M65
which is newer kit.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774554] Re: upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 failed

2011-05-26 Thread Robert Ehelebe
This bug and can be removed. Perhaps this laptop's Nvidia graphics card
can't handle Unity 3D. I still need to find a definitive answer. I don't
recall the 11.04 installer telling me, Your graphics card won't support
Unity 3D, or a similar message.

Waited a couple of weeks and booted this laptop. Found that I could get
to a garbled white/black console where I blindly logged in and
performed:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Many packages were upgraded.

Rebooted the system and logged in but Unity 3D didn't appear correctly.
Moreover, saw blinking red, green, white, black, blue screens when I
attempted to revive the system from suspension. This has been indicative
of an improper setting of the Nvidia graphics card in the past.

I removed the restricted Nvidia driver 173 to test Ubuntu's Nvidia
driver.

Installed the Unity 2D driver and so far that is working for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588435] Re: Serial Wacom Tablet Eraser makes cursor jump and click when not in use

2011-05-26 Thread MadHatter88
After a change of motherboard and screen I still got the problem. For this
reason I believed more than ever, that it is a software problem. But I had to
test it, for my warranty is about to expire, so I installed a Windows7 on the
poor notebook.
Now I can honestly say that it is a _hardware_ problem, because the same thing
happens under windows too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 784488] Re: 2~3 minutes' hang up during boot

2011-05-26 Thread Komo
sorry for no response but I've been too busy.

Today I uninstalled nvidia drivers and confirmed booting goes faster.
Something odd is that after removing pkg in synaptic package manager
and reboot, boot still took long andX seemed to be apparently using nvidia
driver(logged with unity) and jockey reported activated but not being used.
So, I chose to remove in jockey again(!) and finally boot went faster.

But the description is coppied from my bug report avalible here:

So the specs are wrong here.
dlebauer probably uses an ati card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758794] Re: HDMI black screen on Intel Clarkdale

2011-05-26 Thread sherbey
Upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10, running 64bit ubuntu on i3 530 GA-H55N-
USB3.

If the computer is attached via HDMI on booting I get a blank display,
but sound is routed via HDMI. I can connect remotely via ssh so the
computer is healthy, but I cannot use vnc so X is not running.

If I disconnect the HDMI lead but connect via VGA it boots OK. If I then
attach the HDMI monitor, the screen hops to HDMI and continues to work
fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681915] Re: garbled graphics and text after launching unity

2011-05-26 Thread Helge
I have a ThinkPad X200 with Intel 4500MHD graphics, and occasionally I have
experienced the same kind of display corruption in the panels.
Besides that, going into standby mode or even blanking the monitor sometimes
freezes the desktop completely.
I am having huge issues with the new Unity interface, especially in combination
with Google Chrome.
Different windows will not draw nor focus correctly, large portions of the
screen become corrupted and the window buttons (close, minimize and
maximize/restore) tend to disappear from the panel.
Sometimes the left panel refuses to slide back even though I have a maximized
window in the foreground.
I am running standard Ubuntu 11.04, fully updated, with universe and multiverse
repositories enabled.

I have attached a video of the buggy Unity interface and screen
corruption with Google Chrome.

** Attachment added: Google Chrome display corruption and issues with the
Unity interface.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788543] [NEW] Segmentation fault on Lenovo Thinkpad X200s

2011-05-26 Thread Björn Tillenius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Every now and then X hangs. I can still see what was on the screen when
the hang occurs and I can move the mouse, but I can't interact with
anything, using keyboard shortcuts to switch workspaces doesn't work,
and so on. I think it has never happened while I have been working with
the computer, it's always either when I come back after a break, or
watching a movie while the screensaver is kicking in.

The problem started when upgrading to Natty. In Maverick I didn't have
any problems like this.

The traceback from the logs:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] R: [Bug 787998] Re: the mouse pointer freezes for a moment and goes in spurts in the lower right

2011-05-26 Thread mark
Thanks a lot for your answer.
I think that is a grahpic card driver bug. I'm using ATI Catalyst Proprietary
drivers.
Where can I post this bug? I nedd to solve this proble, even if this is a minor
bug...

Thanks a lot for reporting this, however this bug does not qualify as a
paper cut. A paper cut is a minor design flaw that was originally
intended to be a part of the default system, whereas issues like this
are just regular bugs that aren't supposed to be in there. I have
however forwarded the report to xorg-server, where it sounds like this
problem is occurring.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655279] Re: [i965] chromium webgl demos fail on gm45

2011-05-26 Thread Erno Kuusela
Chromium gpu blacklist seems to have gained an entry for this:

{
 blacklist: [ webgl ],
 description: The Intel Mobile 945 Express family of chipsets is not
compatible with WebGL.,
 device_id: [ 0x27AE ],
 id: 4,
 os: {
type: any
 },
 vendor_id: 0x8086
}

(look in $HOME/.config/chromium/Local State). So reopening and
assigning to chromium.

It also seems to have a blanket blacklist entry for ati cards:

{
 blacklist: [ all ],
 cr_bugs: [ 71381, 76428, 73910 ],
 description: ATI cards in Linux are crash-prone.,
 id: 5,
 os: {
type: linux
 },
 vendor_id: 0x1002
  }

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788596] [NEW] xclock's reverseVideo draws black on black

2011-05-26 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x11-apps

Package x11-apps 7.5+5. When xclock is given -rv it has a black
background instead of a white one but much of the clock isn't drawn;
presumably those missing bits are still being drawn in black.

Easy to confirm; compare `xclock' and `xclock -rv'. Adding -norender
changes the behaviour; white hands are now visible with -rv but the
clock face is still missing. With -digital no text is displayed.

It has been like this for several releases but decades ago it used to
work just fine. I suspect the render additions are what's caused the
bugs.
